lol O2 sensor is like a spark plug with a wire/wires coming out. there is a socket that as an opening to accomadate the wire/wires during removal and installation.

Yes could result in better fuel economy as well as performance, as an O2 ages they react slower resulting in slower reaction of the CPU to make needed adjustments as far as timing and fuel ratio. Of course this is still being done a lightning speed. Personally I'd change my every 40k miles or so

So you know where it is in an 8? If so, do you guys have any replacement sensors at your work? If so grab me one (after we hear from Ray) and we'll switch it out this weekend when we are doing Catalan's car.

Once I get my CEL off the intake is going in, well once all the parts are collected.

Well maybe not the distribution center but at the Quest location where I bought the clutch maybe? I could always go and pick it up if need be, just wanted to make sure you guys had them or if I should order it. Just if I order it, I'd have to wait to install it.

RX8 cat's are infamous for going bad. Might this be related or a sensor should generally be replaced every so often?

the sensor is considered a wear item and and faulty sensor could result in a melted down converter. There are two a upstream and downstream (before and after the cat) we have neither in stock currently but our sister compnay should have, they do zero biz with retail but I am sure we could get. I am hoping for you their price are considerably less or you looking at atleast a teste

I am waiting to see what Ray says about the code. I want to make sure if that is indeed the problem, which it really sounds like it is now. Funny thing is, the CEL turned on after we installed the tranny. Maybe we hit the thing when we dropped the transmission, the cat and tranny shard the same space under the car. Who knows.

have you cleared the code with just the tool or have you attempted to clear them using the reset procedures?

Only tried with the tool, never the reset procedures since we never really had an idea what it was. When I read "heater coil low" to friends they had just assumed it was a sensor within the heater in the center console. That's why I wanted to check in with Ray.

After reading a few threads, I really think it is the O2 sensor but getting the authoritative response is always best.

you may want to try the procedure just to make sure if it stays clear then all is good if not then the issue will need to be adressed. But I understand it's a RX8 and lord knows the guys at BHR are the go to guys (when I get mine I suspect I'll be in line lol)

Talked to Erick, he's in an airport in Washinton........Ray is recovering or busy and is not answering his phone. Yes it can mean the cat sensor.......The front sensor sends a message to the rear sensor and if they don't agree with the differential then "Cel it is"....... Chances are it's the Cat and not the sensor. I think little Phil has a good cat that we can test it on but would have to change cats out so that we can run it thru the ECU. I can't remember if you cleared the Cel when you were hooked up to it or not. Clearing thru a tool or by doing it with the car will accomplish the same thing, clearing the cel temporally or perminatly. Something I did not know is that the O2 sensors are sometimes called a heater....learn something every day. What are you going to do if it is the cat? They are expensive.

Delivering the help I have promised is FAR easier when people send me a PM with the symptoms and what-not. That way, I can directly answer the question(s) without having to involve third-parties.

I don't care if you go cat -less. I only try to get you to get the AP cuz I think it helps. The only way around the stock style cat, that I know of, is the RP Super cat. I had one on my 8 and it's floating around the club now.

OK so let me ask again Ray/Charles... do I need to IM you the same question I posted here as opposed to it being answered here so others may benefit? Seems a bit redundant...

Don't go too far into the thread. It's a single page back. But an IM as already sent just in case.

OK Ray/13X.... I need a new front O2 sensor. Any chance I can get that by this weekend?

Note to others working on their trannies, it is common to pinch the harness on the O2 sensor when reinstalling the transmission itself. Good to know for the future.

I don't have the O2 sensor yet so I won't be installing it his weekend. If ray/13X and or AJ are going to help with Catalan's car then I would think that they are going to do the rethread. I actually have somewhere to be Saturday so if you guys don't need me all that badly I won't be at the garage.
