Washing does not get anymore of the marks off, but I haven't tried waxing it yet. Right now the 8 is at Galpin so i'll try my hand at it when i get it back.

damn, was hoping to get more off with a wash. When you get it back, try picking up a clay bar and going at it that way to see if you can get more off.
If that doesn't work, we can always borrow danny's buffer and take a stab at it that way.

Never fear, we'll fix it.

I'm just glad there's no dent but ya, need to get that out.
btw more on my car being at Galpin:...
Getting the 30k service and the tranny looked at cause I've run into the "cant shift into 6th" problem To make matters worse, Scott who is the guy helping me, keeps ignoring my input/suggestions and just doesn't to want to help me, giving me the run-around with problems and telling me it might not be under warranty. He never calls back with updates but he'll gladly call me to try and sell me brakes, a strut tower bar, and a cabin air filter. This guy is high quality. /end rant

I've heard nothing but BAD things about Galpin! Isn't there a TSB for not shifting into certain gears?

I'm running out to lunch but check rosenthal mazda's sight for the TSB. www.finishlineperformance.com

There are issues with 04 models. I had an issue when I shifted into 5th gear and sometimes when I shifted into reverse it would lock up. Unforrtunatly Mazda could not replicate the problem so it never got fixed however, I haven't had any of those issues arise in quite some time.

I know there was talk about the fork for 2nd gear being weak and sometimes a wrong would break making it impossible/difficult to shift inrto 2nd. Not many issues on 6th though.

Try flushing your trans and diff. and use eathier Redline or Royal Purple.

Anyone heard of or experience problems shifting into 5th at high rpm's? I've noticed lately that I can't get from 4th to 5th at high rpm's without it grinding a bit as it enters 5th.

Jorge thats the EXACT same problem I had. I would experience that quite a bit when I was speeding on the 73 toll road to Alsio Viejo. Since I don't have much of a commute (7 miles each way) I haven't noticed it.

Like I had mentioned earlier, Mazda will not be able to replicate it because it requires being in high rpm in 4th (exceeding the speed limit) and shifting into 5th. I had a tech. test drive with me and I showed him and he saiud he heard it but because they can't generate the same issue when they drive they told me my car is performing as intended.

I had both Huntington Beach and Anaheim (twice at anaheim) check this issue out and they both fed me the same crap.

Here is my thread. You can see that it posted a while back. Also I had about 24K miles. How many do you have racked up?

just bumped your thread with a quick post. Lots of people have said that griding like that is often a sign of the clutch not engaging properly and not the tranny. HMMMM.....

Only 19K on my car so I'm a bit disappointed with this.

That smell is clutch...I know cause my 04 has the same smell (sometimes ).....when we replaced the flywheel we noticed I should have replaced my clutch, it was obviously worn. I have 60k on my car now, still havent replaced the clutch, just changed my driving habits and smell is gone
