When a cop pulls you over, you do what he says. You are required to follow the instructions of an officer. It's probably not a good idea to argue with him or gesture at him or be uncooperative. If he asks for your license and registration, there is no reason to argue, you give him your license and registration.

Overreaction on the officers' parts? Definitely. However, you MUST realize the officers have to worry about people pulling guns. If you reach for your pocket without the officer giving you permission, he's going to automatically assume you are reaching for a weapon and will take action to protect himself. Common sense during traffic stops seems to be lacking a lot nowadays. You don't get out of the vehicle unless asked to, and you sure as hell do NOT walk towards the officer without permission.

If you have a problem with the ticket....that's what the courts are for.

But yes I agree that the raids of the meets are retarded, but if the behavior that was reported by the property owners is correct, then I can't particularly lay blame. That's one of the reasons we try to enforce the no-***-hattery rules at our meet. :D

There's a reason cops tend to crackdown only in areas where the residents tend not to be able to afford legal protection. If I got quizzed by the cops in that situation, I'd ask why a Camry is sold stock with 270 horsepower while we can now get SUVs with over 400 hp. Do the soccermoms street race officer?

As far as this past weeks LAX meet, being it my first, I enjoyed it. What else would I be doing on a wed night when its raining for the one time it probably will for a long *** time, but that's beside the point.

As far as for the meet that got busted.... total bullshit. If the PD's were so concerned about street racing, then they should've sent a handful of officers out there to just simply ask some questions and maybe just double check and then take APPROPRIATE action if needed. I've been at meets before that have had some cops roll up on us, and act all threatening and then immediately turn around and say "so... these are some hot cars... whatchu got done to them?" and then instead of calling the dispatcher, he called his friends and sent them some cell phone pics. rare, I know.

This couldn't be more true though. Assuming a person is street racing because they like to modify their car that THEY pay for with their own hard earned money, is f*ed up. Why not go ask all the rich bastards with hi-po cars... stock and straight off the show room floor equipped with 500+ hp and completely ready for a la mans race or something why do they need such high amounts of power? (Answer: because they can.)

Sounds to me like these officers and department heads should be more focused and concerned about the 2 things cops are supposed to do: protect and serve the people. And I don't mean protect (their ticket quotas) and serve (tickets based on assumption).

+1

a couple weeks ago, i was upset, crying, and driving. i ended up getting pulled over by a cop on campus (at CSULB) for supposedly going 30 in a 20 zone. as i was trying to tell him that i wasn't crying to get out of the ticket, he kept raising his voice at me and literally bitched me out, yelling at me for speeding when my tuition dollars are meant to protect the students with things like speed limits on campus. and by the way, this happened at 8:45 at night when the campus was empty and he followed me through campus, onto the street, and then finally into a neighborhood. after he gave me a speeding ticket, i was just sitting in my car, now crying cuz i had to explain it to my parents, and the he shined his light on my car and told me to move even though i was pulled over and legitimately parked.

serve and protect, eh? no. more like find any situation in which they can be a total douche bag.

but on the other hand, i was upset last year and went down to corona del mar late at night. i was parked up at a hill, and a cop came out and shined his light at me. he got out of his car, and asked why i was crying (and no, i'm not a crier. cops just have 'crying girl' radar when i'm around). he then knelt down, put his head on my window sill and asked if i wanted to talk about it and said that he was a good listener. by far the nicest, most sincere cop i ever met. i wish i got his name so i could nominate him for some type of award. if they do that...
