Loving my "M" Flash

I had my RX reflashed with the new M flash last week. I really like this flash, there is more pull going through the gears and it kicked my miles to the tank by another 30mpg! This is me driving in city and highway and not being timid either so I am getting 235 miles to a tank now. I'll be extremely happy if I can get 250. I've had my RX for about a month and week now.

I also have to say that I really like working with Peter Potman at Oaktree Mazda. Really great guy.

Good for you! I just spoke with Oaktree this morning and said that I could bring up the M flash request when I have my car checked in for service. I'd like to get it pronto though. Did you have to set an appointment with them? How long did it take? I can't afford to go thru a car rental again coz my RX8 is on service for this month; I'm so busy.

I wish I could just drive by, have it flashed, and then leave all on a lunch break

Ditto for Peter at Oak Tree. Very reasonable and courteous.

When I had my L flash, I dropped it off, walked over to get a sandwich. When I return, the car was waiting for me.

Took a day but free rental

I actually brought the car in because I had a small cut on the steering wheel. They replaced the steering wheel and did the flash at the same time. It was also washed. I got a free rental for the day from hertz. A Mazda 6, which was fun to try out.

Do I need a flash if I just bought my car yesterday or is it only for the first batch. Maybe my car is one of the first batch. How do I find out what flash I have? Is there a difference if it is automatic? Thanks.

Don't know

Good question. This was my first flash since I bought my car last month. I don't know if the flashes are different for automatics and Manual transmission. I would suspect there is since in automatic the computer has different settings to recognize when to shift and maybe they need to model it around that? Shot in the dark.

Anyhow, just monitor your miles to the gallon if your concerned about gas. That might be a good indicator. If I read write the auto is supposed to get a little better mileage in a RX, could be wrong but that's what i've read.

Hiya guys, just a heads up Mazda itself has issued an update on the flooding situation. The "M" flash is now required to be done when you bring your car into the dealership. So don't let any of them give you BS. Here's a link to the bulletin. If you read down, you'll find it says that the pcm should be updated to "M" even if you come in for repairs or maintanance unrelated to flooding issues. The software update prevents possible flooding and from what I hear fixes low mpg.

I just got the M Flash on Friday on my AT and it made a significant difference. The car shifts much more smoothly. I have to drive more to see if it changed the mileage. Good stuff though.

I brought my 8 to OakTree for work a couple of weeks ago.
They PUT a small cut in my steering wheel, washed my car without asking first and left horrible swirl marks (I always wash/scrub in one direction to avoid swirls!), and put a 4 inch scratch on my hood!

Go OakTree!

Ok might be a dumb question, but here goes anyways, the last flash i even read about i think was the L Flash, common sense would tell you that the higher the alphabet the newer and better the flash is compared to the lower letter?

also does anyone know if canzoomer ran charts with his stage 1 and Mflash? i think i saw a thread on a charted L flash and stage 1.

Hi RX-8 club - Please let me know what a MFlash and a LFlash is. Also, is there other notifications I should know about besides the Airbag recall. I just found out about this Forum. Thanks.

hi and welcome to the forum. just a word of advice, when you ask,

"Hi RX-8 club - Please let me know what a MFlash and a LFlash is. Also, is there other notifications I should know about besides the Airbag recall. I just found out about this Forum. Thanks."

you are setting yourself up for many people flaming you. Do yourself a favor, read the RX-8 FAQ, learn how to use the search button. There you will find the answers to your questions in numerous posts. Also all recall info can be found with this method. Good luck with your research.

Re: Re: Took a day but free rental

what is it with the dealers? My dealer in Capitola cut my steering wheel as well. 2 inches long cut. They repaired it next day, you cannot tell now when you look at it.

The hood!

Now that's a pisser! How did they fix that???

Peter

flashing your ECU is like flashing your motherboard bios with new instructions. in other words its just a computer upgrade to make the car run better.
