For me, it's an hour and a half EACH way to get to Malibu
AND
an hour and a half each way if I go to San Bernandino...

Old? ouch man...low blow! I'm only a few years older then you are...

XRider, you gonna be the meets? Can't wait to check out your car and meet you...

hour and a half each way huh? that is quite a bit of driving. but it's an hour and a half of driving your 8 each way . not an hour and half of driving some beater each way, lol.

well, for a couple years older than i am, how much older is older?

as far as making it any of the meets, imna see if i can get my days switched for the Dec. 3rd meet in San Bernardino. Otherwise, the only meets i can make are any that take place in the evening =\.

I've been hearing about the fires on the news and stuff. about 2-3yrs. ago the whole mountain north of my house was on fire. it was pretty to watch, but must have been frightening for the people who live(d) in that area.

and yea, this thread has slowed down a bit.

I guess it sounds like we're trying to find a date for the December cruise... Jun suggested Sun 12/4, but it sounds like that conflicts with the San Bernardino cruise on Sat 12/3. Would the weekend of the 10th/ 11th be better then? I guess we should pick a day where the majority of us can make it. Any thoughts? Maybe Keith should mediate, since he's the organizer...

There's an autocross event at the Fontana speedway on the 10th. Sign ups haven't been opened yet, but we're watching the site daily to see when it opens. I believe it is in the range of 50 bucks or so for all day. That's where I hope to be that second weekend in December, if not, maybe I could make a cruise that weekend.

Oh, and AddictiveRX is the organizer.

Yeah I'm watching the fires from my back window as a type, pretty far but still visible.

Exclamation I Almost Got Tix'd 2day 4 No Front Plate! :(

I was parked at the BofA atm parking lot in So. Pasadena this afternoon when, out-of-nowhere, a SPPD police jeep pulls up behind me...

The officer examines my car curiously, and upon making eye contact waves me over and says, "Do you know I can ticket you RIGHT now for not having a front plate? It's a $77 fine. WHY don't you have a front license plate?"

I politely tell him that I bought the car just a while ago and that the dealer never installed the front license plate mount and that I didn't know how to do it myself.

He then explains that ALL the police dept's across California have been briefed and instructed by the State to strictly enforce on all the so-called minor vehicle regulations, because of the need for revenues. He said he had no front plate on his own car too, but recently installed it too for this very reason. He said they were instructed to start pulling people over whenever they see this sort of thing.

Anyhow... He was nice and let me go with a warning today. <WHEW!> But he said to go the the dealership ASAP and make them install the front plate mount, as they are obligated to do so.

So, now I am majorly bummed out and don't know what to do. I live in Alhambra and am in-and-around So. Pasadena time-to-time because my parents live there. This really sucks... So. Pas is a small city and doesn't have that many RX-8s. And, like all of you, I hate the idea of having a front plate altogether...

Do you guys have any thoughts or suggestions?

Gerry

I say leave the plate off.

$77 for not having a front license plate seems a bit high. I think he might have been exaeggerating that one a bit.

Last time I got that kind of ticket was 3 years ago and it was only $10. All I had to do was go down to the PD and have them sign off on it...

My RX came with a cool little bracket that I can always put on quickly without having to drill any holes.

IF you actually get the ticket, slap it on, get it signed off, then take it back off.

bummer! nice that you got away w/just a warning though . i saw an evo a while ago that had it's front plate, and it wasn't all that bad on the location that it was placed. the one in this pic is the same place i had seen the plate on the evo i saw. though, w/our oil coolers being where they are, i don't think it would be that great of a place for the plate holder to be on our cars.

I too am against having a front plate

yeah, but only for as long as you tell them you're "visiting" here.

Unfortunately, you're going to have to register your car here eventually...

Thanks for the feedback guys. I just thought of another idea... What if I put the temporary registration sticker that the dealer gave me back onto the front windshield? I wonder if this might help me seem less conspicuous?

Also, Jedi... The bracket that you got... Is it different than the normal front plate bracket? I'm asking only because my car did come with a front plate bracket- only that the dealer didn't install it and instead left it in the plastic bag in my trunk. But, from what I can tell it requires some screws etc. Is yours just clips?

Gerry,

The one mine came with did have some screws but you don't actually screw anything into the frame.
It holds itself up using the screen in the front of our car.

Hmmm, lemme see if I have any photos of it on.

Okay people...I have decided to check in on things...
I think that the weekend of the 10/11th would be okay providing the weather holds. I will be at the track on the 16th so it would be a nice warm up.

I dont think it should be up to me to make an official decision, at least not untill we have some kind of a vote. So, What say you...?

I called Alhambra Mazda, and they said installing the front plate mount will require drilling holes in 2 cavities of the diamond portion of the front grill. And, they said that if u remove the license mount afterwards, the holes would probably BE visible... @#$%@! <ugh> I think since it's long weekend, I will take some time and look at it under the sunlight and see if there is a non-destructive way of mickey mousing it to stay on. Though, I am still very inclined to NOT install the ugly thing. This bites. If you have pictures or figured out a way Jorge, please let me know.

As of right now, the 12.10 or 12.11 are okey day with me... I will have a better idea as the date approaches. I really need to put some more miles on my car between now & then... I didn't realize the cruise was going to be so much braking/ accelerating last time... <lol> I hope i didn't **** up the break-in of my car... :P 1100 miles and counting.
