I would start with the obvious (you probably know all these already)
check your fluids, replace if necessary (fill up windshiled washer fluid reservoir)
inspect tire treads and pads, also replace if necessary
spare tire, oil, premix (if your using it), coolant, fuel can/container (filled with your octane of choice) and some basic hand tools
...the trip's only gonna take about 5 hrs (maybe even less) but it's better to have some things and not need it than need something and realize that it's not readily available.

are you taking 5 then 101 or the scenic route (1 then 101)?

as far as POI, what are you exactly looking for, I'm from the east bay but I'm in Milpitas and Santa Clara most of the time so I know a little bit about the area.

You're probably aware that there's a weekly friday night meet at Union Landing (Union City) that starts around 7, you're more than welcome to hang out eat dinner with the rest of the bay area 8 owners.

hth

haha, I just made that trek last Thanksgiving in my FC. The trip is easy, no mountain to climb or anything. The roads all the way there is clean and smooth. Nice scenery when you get to the vineyards stretch(spelling?). The route I like taking is 405 to 5 all the way up to the 152 (Pacheco Pass) thats a really fun slightly winding road for about 45 minutes then take the 101 into SJ. But again, that route is very easy on your rotary so I would worry about to much other than the guy above pointers. If you leave socal by 4-5 am, you miss all traffic and cruise all the way in. Whatcha going there for??

I know you won't make it on one gas tank, it will tank about 1 1/2 tanks of gas. I'm actually headed back tomorrow from Long Beach to SF.

Hey thanks guys! -

i plan on spending all tomorrow getting my car ready

good to hear the road is smooth - i was afraid that there were some mountain passes that may take a toll on my 8's cooling. and i plan on trying to get there as quickly as possible so i plan on taking the 5.

but cheah, i'm headed up north to spend some time with my lady in her area for the valentines day weekend. i would've flown but 1. tickets thru southwest are nearing $300 and 2. I hate taking her c230 thru any mountain passes.

anyways tho - hopefully if we're aren't doing anything on the first night, i'll make it out to the bay meet! that'd be sweet!

Perris-sorry if killed your name;have bad memory-you should definitely hit up hwy 9 or skyline blvd. The weather should be nice and take the drive up north into SF spend a day at the pier and check out the rain forest cafe. Wait a minute, are coming to Mountain view?

Hwy 9 is a fun road, but you have to share it with a lot of other drivers and bikers, same goes for skyline Blvd. you can take the 84 towards hwy 1 off Skyline then drive up north. Start early in the morning just in case you want to get off and check out the scenery on your way up..

have fun up north!

go eat some seafood with ur lady at fisherman's wharf( the clam chowder in bread is good) or something...and view of alcatraz is nice too.

dim sum in chinatown up north in S.F. seem to taste better for some reason.

and the twistiest street is there too, although nothing so special about it. just a ridiculously curvy street on a hill.

did i mention, its colder up north?

Did you take State Highway 166? Did that a couple of years ago.
