NASA track day @ Infineon 8/22

Any other RX-8 owners going to be at Sears Point with NASA on August 22nd? I'm anxious to see how this thing compares to my old Mustang on the track.

Here's the page on NASA's HPDE program.

The registration page is here.

The Infineon event is $149, and you will also need to become a NASA member (about $30 if I remember right) if you're not one already. That price gets you four 20-minute sessions on the full course at Infineon.

These events are open to people who have never been on track - everyone in the beginner's group is assigned an instructor. The instructors are usually racers and most of them are pretty good.

For anyone thinking about doing this, I highly recommend it. I't's a great way to learn how to really drive a car, and the race track is a much safer environment for it than the street. The RX-8 seems like a great car to learn in, too. On the other hand, track time can be really addictive.

So what if you have already been on a track? Sounds like a good deal anyway!

People who already have track experience are usually placed into one of the other run groups based on their experience level. I was trying to make it clear that complete newbies are welcome, because people always ask what happens if they've never been to a track event. Of course experienced drivers are always welcome too and they drive in one of the more advanced groups.

I went to an event similar to this on Saturday at Willow Spings track - it was heaps of fun and I'd absolutely recommend it to anyone who's interested in driving their 8 at the limit.

So did anyone else get in on this? I got an email a couple days ago stating that only HPDE group 3 had space left.
