Had my first unscheduled visit to the deal yesterday. I was experiencing a really rough idle occasionally. I scanned the ECU and came up with a misfire on cylinder 6. Took it to the dealer who swapped fuel injector 6 with 5 and the problem moved to 5. They replaced all 6 injectors and everything seems to be running good now. They also updated the firmware on the ECU which significantly reduced throttle lag.

The dealer (south bay) did not give me any **** about my mods. They didn't even mention them. However, I was pretty pissed off when they told me they didn't have any loaners back in yet and needed to keep my car over night.

did u get the extended warranty roger? i think once u r past ur warranty period, those unexpected visits are going to start costing $80 to $90 per visit, just to diagnose the issue. u need to find a bmw tuner shop that doesn't charge dealership rates for service otherwise.

hope u get ur car back soon...

I got my car back the next day. Turns out there was a tsb for the fuel injectors, which happened to be my problem. -They replaced all six. I've never found buying the extended warranty a worthwhile investment. Honestly, the bmw has been far more reliable then my rx8. At this point during my rx8 ownership, I had a total of seven unscheduled dealer visits. Compare that to one for the bmw.

true, but your experience is probably not the average... most ppl i know with 335i's have had to visit the dealer at least once every month or two for little electrical things or other issues... at least now bmw has finally owned up to the engine problem and done the recall across all their fleet that have that twin turbo engine... they should've done this way before the class action lawsuit forced them to do it...

overall though, i have to agree with you that my bmw ownership experience has been a very good one. i just did the 120k mile service on my 323i, and it still runs fantastic. and, i plan to drive this car into the ground.

the only major things that suck over the years are really the little unexpected things that break here and there. most notably are the rubbers and plastics on the car definitely do not hold up well. and it's the little ditty things here and there that ding your wallet unexpectedly here & there- mostly because the parts are expensive.

some examples... the window rubber lining has been a problem for bimmers for many years. it usually either starts warping or ceases to grip the windows tightly. so, now my windows rattle really nicely. also around 100k miles my moonroof clips snapped. and, guess what- bmw only sells the entire rail assembly. so that was pricey to replace- unless i was willing to not be able to raise my roof. then at 110k miles my hand brake snapped clean off. that was several hundred to replace too... <lol> but, the list goes on and on.

but, still love the way this car drives and feels. it's been a trusted companion and reliable ride for me- much more so than my old honda even.

Yea, I agree that the parts are expensive. But so are the cars, so it's relatively proportionate.
