New Owner looking for advice

I finally bought an RX-8. 12 years ago I thought the RX-7 was the coolest car ever to grace the earth, and I've had my eyes on the RX-8 ever since it was released. A few days ago on my birthday I finally bit the bullet and purchased a 2005 Shinka Edition, with 68K miles.

Last night, after about 150 miles and 1 fill up with 91 octane gas, the CEL came on....

After some searching, it seems that the O2 Sensor, Catalytic converter, and Ignition Coil are some common issues and culprits. I plan to get it diagnosed with an OBD II ASAP.

The CEL issue aside, I'm wondering if people on this forum have some general advice for a new owner?

The car has been lightly modified as far as I can tell, with the Racing Beat intake and exhaust (mods I would've done myself), and I suspect the suspension may have been tweaked as well, because it looks very low to the ground to me and the springs are yellow.

Welcome to rotary land. Some tips are check ur oil from time to time. Rotary engine likes to use oil. If ur car is not warm up do not turn on you car then turn it off. You will flood ur engine this way. Let ur car warm up before you turn it off. If ur engine is flood then there is way to to fix. ( there's a form for that here) other then that just have fun with ur car. Oh and this depend on your tires but the rx-8 factory tiers do not do well in rain. Just be carefull. Hope this helps alittle.

I disregard pretty much all the lights in the dash besides Lights, Traction, and e-brake. I just say keep a close eye on every aspect of the car. Just check things regularly and if theres some weird noise/issue troubleshoot it asap then resolve the problem. Pretty much check the car all around every 500miles making sure oil level is ok, coolant level is good, tire pressure, exhaust smell/leak, lights, pads, rotors, plugs, blah blah blah. I just make sure things are in working order and try to let things get out of hand by leaving the problem for a long period of time.

Welcome,

Check out the threads in my signature. $100 is based on my first year with an 04. You are at the same age and miles...

Again, welcome
