meet and optional dyno day
hey guys! there's a meet going on this upcoming saturday (the 17th) in the Santa Clarita area. it's an optional dyno day, with a bbq, photo shoot, and canyon run/cruise.
it's been posted on the bimmer forums and there's already a promising turnout. this meet is for all cars, so bring whatever car you'd like!
here's the link to the thread, https://www.rx8club.com/west-rx-8-forum-34/so-cal_meet-2-optional-dyno-day-164155/ .
post if you can make it!

My car is mechanically 100%, but having looked at the internal repairs up I've realized it's not up to my standards. At this time I'm going to leave it, but I think in a few months I'm going to go back and redo some of the repairs. I'm never going back to that shop again.

I'm sorely tempted to take off the nose of my car again just to investigate whether putting on the tiebar requires me to weld anything or not. I'm such an impatient freak when it comes to getting my car to tip top condition.

The front lower tiebar is an internal piece that the bumper support mounts to. The shop that repaired my car simply bent it back, which they said they were going to do, but now that I looked at the job closely it's not what I was hoping for. Also, normally even the undersheetmetal is sprayed bodycolor, but the shop simply painted it black and I don't think they even bothered to remove the old paint chips. For now the car works fine as is, but even a shoddy internal repair bugs me and I know I'll probably redo the work myself. Funny thing is I was tempted to limp the car home and do the repairs myself; only the radiator leak stopped me. It looks like maybe I should have.

^^ actually, i do prefer the gunmetal stock R3 19"'s better, of course. but, my gutt feeling is that those will be (a) hella expensive and (b) hard to come across...
or, do u think eventually they'll be available at an affordable price?
the 09 (aka 40th anniv) stock wheels seem like a compromise if he's selling all 4 for $1100. but, if he wants $1100 each, then i can think of PLENTY of things i'd rather spend $4,400 on then wheels. LOL.
maybe god is telling me not to get the mod bug....

I feel $1100 for a set is too much. A pristine set of Series 1 stockers would run $500-600. While there isn't as much supply for the 40th/Series 2 wheels yet, I feel they'll become available over time. For right now, I'd say $800 is the maximum I'd pay for that set and that's taking into account the wheels have barely been driven on. For $1100 I could get a nice set of aftermarket wheels (I hear someone's cherry set of WedsSport TC005s are available for that price).

I bitched to the bodywork place about my tiebar condition and they've agreed to take a look at it next time I'm up in the Bay Area. The problem is, do I really want them to do it again?
