No body kits in stock because some of us would get real carbon fiber stuff to save weight.... The cost would be insane.

STU in a nut shell:
Intake
header
high flow cat
cat back
ECU/PCM upgrade
under drive pulley
shocks and springs are open, but non elec controlled
swaybars
bushings
any size wheel
any street tire 140 treadwear or higher up to 275mm wide, no race tires
body kits, but not hoods.
race seats
big brake kits and bling bling cross drilled rotors
I am sure there is other stuff but you get the idea.

Next step up from STU is BSP.... Sort of...

No body kits in BSP, in fact at a natl/pro event casey would have to pull off the MazdaSpeed wing to be legal in BSP.

But add to the STU mod list:
light flywheel and race tires.

If you want to run race tires on a car with a body kit you have to run SM.... Anything goes in SM, carbon body work, 3 rotor swap, turbo, blower

In stock class only OE stuff that would have came on the car from the factory, no dealer installed parts. So no MazdaSpeed and no aftermarket. The OE stuff is ok. However you cant just do the front lip, you would have to have the whole setup as it came from Mazda. The only body part that is aline item from Mazda is the standard rear wing.

COME ON PEOPLE!! that is confuesing us laymen folks who dont race...so what is the story as far as sunday? saturday is malibu given the winds die down sunday is qualcomm where?

I would enjoy autocrossing but i dont have the money or time right now (i think) so i dont mind showing up to take pictures but i want to make sure we get some typical runs every now and again , you guys all sound so hyped up.

as for the wind the apartment accross from us got evicted and where put up in a hotel becasue they think the tree in front might blow over.

Zootender you gave me quite a laugh, the pony in your house....i dont think my sister would even do that oh and i got my rotary volumn control *** but i have to buy some black paint to finish the install

At least sways. Casey, are these a difficult install?
Ok, so how do they fit cars in STU versus other cars...do they somehow figure in for horsepower or anything...or would a STU modena be up against a STU 8...and what about those subys and the EVO8 that were out at the practice event...all go into the same class based on mods.....????

I'm wondering if I would have better luck just showing up in my mom's stock 350Z.

The hot cars in STU are the E36 BMW M3, RX8 and the Sti Evo's. T
the RX8 has one advantage, it can fit 275s all the way around. The M3 can only fit a 265. The AWD cars get a max tire size of 245 to slow them down.

Sways are easy, takes longer to take the tires off then change the bar.

You could run your moms car in BS... If you feel like getting a whooping.

This would mean no 350Z's and no Ferraris. (both 2 seaters)


as for the sways, ther rear is a snap! the front I found to be a pain in the . but nothing that cant be done. (getting the bar in and out is the hardest part)

Yes you are right. Right now it seems to be a four car class, RX8, M3 and StiEvo. So far the M3s are about even with the StiEvo, just need someone to setup an RX8 and crush them.

You must be doing the swaybar wrong.... I can get that sucker out in a few seconds, lots of practice. As Mp5 said on sun when we put Konis on his car and changed the front bar "you owned it". The key is getting the tie rods in the right spot, then it is cake.

Most local guys will be glad to have more cars in the class.... Nice thing is you can leave the uprights and the decklid part and just pull the wing part off if it was an issue or if you wanted to run a natl/pro event.

First time took me over an hour. Now it takes me longer to jack up the car and take the wheels off than to replace the bar. I think I have done it about 6 times.

damn, thats quick.

speaking of sway bars. do you have any clunks or squeeks now with the new bar?

I now have a slight clunk from the right front when I hit bumps with it, and in freakin cold weather (this weekend going to big bear) I had a sqeek coming from the front end when I would turn. when it was a little warmer it went away. (you might not know about this as it is to warm down here)

When you put a swaybar built for a motor home on your RX8 its going to make noise.... I have the MazdaSpeed. The Racing beats are way to big and not even adjustable.

Yeah, Jason has mad skills with the sway bar swap. I believe the exact quote was "you dominated it". It was in before I even noticed him doing it.

Just being a big bar isn't gonna cause clunking... ULLLOSE just has some serious hate for the RB bar.

Clunking might be due to an endlink being loose. Squeaking on the other hand might mean you need to lube the urethane bushings. Mine were getting real bad before we took the bar out.

ULLOOSE, your the first person I have heard that does not like the RB sway bars. almost everyone I talk to that has it loves it. how come you dont like it?

I personally like it, makes the sterring much more responsive to. I keep catching myself turning to sharp when I enter a turn (on the street) and I have to back off the steering wheel a little bit.

I was thinking the exact same thing about the end links, and the bushings. I dont think there is anything I can do about the bushings squeeking when it is 17 degrees out side (nor do I really care with how little I am in 17 degree weather.) but I do want to get under there and check the end links. i doubt they are loose though.

Guess you have not talked to any of the guys that race the cars. The bar is to big it makes the car push. In stock class where we can only change the front bar it is insane to use the RB front. Even your car with the matching rear bar still pushed when I drove it. They are fine on the street but 99% of the guys that have the bar will never take it to the track and find out how it feels on the edge.

The RB bar is aprox 117% stiffer than stock and way stiffer than anything on the market. To stiff of a bar does not allow the suspension to work, just binds everything up. If I were in a class that I could change both bars I would try the AP bars, 64% stiffer than stock and they are adjustabe front and rear.

A swaybar works by taking weight off the inside tire and transfers weight to the other end of the car, it trys to lift the inside tire to prevent body weight transfer. So a big front bar makes the rear stick better because it takes weight off the inside front tire in a turn. The problem is the RB bars are so stiff you start to lift the inside tire before you have gotten the tire to work for you. A big rear bar makes the car turn better by taking weight off the inside rear and putting it on the front. This does make it turn better but when the inside rear tire is light because of the bar pulling up it will spin and make it hard to put power down. You need to let the body roll some so the tires can stick to the pavement.

If you look at some of the fastest cars at the track many will have small bars, or none, and get the car to do what they want with springs.

I think with shocks and a good alignment we can make your car work.

damn i knew the RB bar was big, but damn! 117% over stock! i thought it looked like it came off of a ford f350.

I notice the push to, but I had that push before the sway bars to. ( I thought it was driver error, entering a turn to fast.)

does anyone know how much stiffer the rear bar is? I would THINK it should be right up there in the 100% range witht the front. but it didnt seem THAT much bigger then stock.
