does anyone know how much stiffer the rear bar is? I would THINK it should be right up there in the 100% range witht the front. but it didnt seem THAT much bigger then stock.
Its not from an F350, its a winnebago.

Most cars have a push from the factory, keeps idiots from spinning off the road. When you do the bars as a pair unless the rear bar is a bigger increase in stiffness than the front your balance will be the same.

So now you need shocks and alignment to get the right balance.

Looks like Casey needs to get into the autocross threads. I spent some time in there a couple times...all the info was above my head at this point....but I know with some more exposure to this stuff I'll pick it up quickly.

One thing Erica told me about your experience Jason (fast Jason) was that even after an entire year of videotaping your runs, you had less than an hour of footage. Makes it hard to get "experience" at that clip. I think doing a real event will provide me an idea of how fast the guys with experience are, and what cars I would be up against. But I do need more time on the track...and it looks like I'm stuck in a class above my abilities, so I may need to invest in some parts. I, myself, was looking at the MS setup...springs, shocks, and sways. Or the MS sways with Tein coilovers (just because it will give me a chance of softening the ride for my daily driver). I've heard, and read, that the MS spring/shock setup is very stiff.

I am sure there is other stuff but you get the idea.

I was talking to Erica about this whole class thing, she is screwed too because of her body kit. She was actually interested in running as well. Guess she'll just do practice days when we can. And maybe see me get my butt handed to me on a platter in STU.

I always been more show than go anyway...I just hate stock anything.

Yeah 1hr of tape... Keep in mind that was when I lived in the NW and the season was 4 months. That was 2-3 events a month and no practice events, only races and fun runs. If you only do practice events you miss out on that many more runs, got to do them all.

MazdaSpeed springs are very stiff, the shocks are not. If I were going to pick up a coilover setup I would look at the KW stuff, there shocks are sick. I think the AP bars and KW suspension would give a good starting point with max adjustablity.

then again, with limited knowledge in the performance area, "max adjustability" may just give me more problems than not. I have tried "tuning" on Forza Motorsports (XBOX), and just end up making things worse than when I started...but at least in that application I can press "start over".

I wouldn't worry about maxing out your car's mods to the class's specs just yet. Focus on improving your driving. You won't be competitive right away anyways, and with time you'll learn how the car behaves and what changes you might want to make. On the other hand, I've been doing it for a couple years and still don't know what I'm doing... so maybe you shouldn't listen to me.

Yeah, my comment was mostly targeted at kwescott. If you already have springs, new shocks are probably a good idea.

I autoxed my car bone stock for a year when I started. When I got to the point where I was consistently a couple seconds behind the guys with r-compound tires, I decided it was time to start dropping some bills on setting the car up.

how much of a differance did you notice once you started changing the car? you pick up that couple seconds you were behind?

If you just want to play for now you should fix your toe. Make sure that 1/16th front is toe out and not in. The rear toe should be set to zero. If you want to get serious the you need way more -camber front and rear. About -2 all around would be a great place to start.

It is true you can get yourself in trouble with to many settings if you dont know what you are doing. However it is also nice to learn in a car that works right to begin with. That way when you learn how to drive you wont have to relearn a new car later.

1/16 posative should be tow out right?
tow in would cause unstability. I dont see why the alighnment shop would set it to tow in. (i just know that on the race car we NEVER set it to tow in. on short tracks we even ran as much as 1/4" tow out. bigger tracks were more like 1/16" to 1/8")

The ONLY thing that will find you a couple of seconds is tires... All the other parts are tenths of a second. Even if you do springs, bars, shocks, intake all at once it will make less of a differance than the tires do.

Now you have that part covered so the rest the SB crew will eat your dust.

No that is in. No alignment shop will set toe out unless you ask for it. Toe in makes the car more stable and better for the average person, that is also how it comes from Mazda. Toe out in the front on the track will help your car turn in. Also setting the rear toe to zero should help get rid of your push because you have a ton of rear toe in.
