DFL....did not finish last?

Just wondering about the novice class...looks like they Pax your time. Looks like I may have finished in the top 5 or so...is that right? I'm just going off the STS guy who finished first in the WRX...there were no STU guys in novice for me to base the time improvement on.

Jason said that I should have entered Novice STU...damn, if I would have only known.

I think you would've been 2nd in Novice class. Even with your 85 second run, you paxed 111 out of 211 drivers. That's not bad at all considering you've only done this a couple times right? I wasn't lying when I said you looked pretty good out there on course (I was working when you ran).

Thanks Jason's and Jorge. It definately was a much bigger track. I actually felt myself getting fatigue where I didn't even come close at the smaller Fontana track. An interesting feeling to have brain fatigue. Really tells you how hard this stuff really is, and how much stuff your thinking about as you try to control speed, direction and traction...oh, and like I always forget...braking. I have to get better at this.

I'm wondering, are you guys braking with your right or left foot. I could tell some of the Vette guys were heal/toeing. You'd see their brake lights go on, but you'd hear the engine accelerating.

Also, on the novice class issue. Michael (who sent out the emails about results being up) responded to an email I sent him. He said contact someone at SCAT, and to fill out the yellow entry card at the enxt event. Jasons...do you have a contact person for SCAT, or is this what you were already doing for me Ulllose?

As for the DFL, I think it has to do with missing a gate. I missed a gate completely on my second run. I had a brain fade and just blew right by it. I don't know how I missed it, but for some reason did. I kicked myself, but got back to the rest of the run....now if I only knew about the "technique" earlier, I would have just slowed down and looked for misplaced cones.

I use my right foot for braking, but Jason I uses his left. It takes a lot of practice to get the required sensitivity with the left foot, plus the spacing between the pedals is pretty tight for my big feet. It seems to be about 50/50 with the fast national guys as to which foot they use.

The Vettes make some sweet exhaust sounds when they lift off the gas, that may have been what you heard. There usually won't be any heel/toeing unless there is a really tight turn that requires a 1st gear downshift.

Are you trying to get your class changed to Novice in the results? You might want to PM CNaylor on the sdsolo.com board. I would just say forget it though, unless you're looking for a little ego boost from placing higher in class.

I'm just wondering if it would be worth doing for the next event. It's not like I'm compiling points or anything, so changing it for this last event is not important to me either...just want to have fun and be somewhat competitive...at the next one.

Yeah, you can run as novice the next event. Just use the special Novice card when you register and tape an N to your door. Cool thing about that is that you can have an instructor ride with you and even drive your car for a run. Technically, I think you can only run Novice 3 times before you have to run in a regular class. You should do well against the other noobs.

Yeah, I was going to sign up as Novice last weekend, but thought it would be embarrasing to have to do a course walk with an instructor. I wouldn't want to waste one of my runs by having someone else drive the car, but having someone ride along wouldn't be bad. I did learn a lot just from having Ulllose ride along with me once. Just being told to keep my foot away from the clutch was very helpful and I picked up 4 seconds on that Fontana course.

I probably need to ride along with you or Ulllose to see what type of braking I need to be doing. I think I either brake too late, or am not braking hard enough/late enough.

I'm just thinking about what it looked/sounded like when I was watching you and the Isleys going around the track. Even with your spins, you were turning in faster times than I. It just sounds like you guys have your RPM's up for most of the track, where I experience a couple of "boggs" after those tight "U" turns. That SD track had a whole bunch of them. If I could figure out how to take those turns better, I think I would have more respectable times. The rest of the timing and sloloms I do well with.

You don't HAVE to walk with an instructor... but I wouldn't be embarrased by that anyways, you might learn a lot. When you have an instructor drive your car, it does not count against you as a run... you still get your 3. I learned a ton by taking a couple rides with ULLLOSE, like the fact that you have to actually use the brake pedal.

I'm also realizing that I have the same problem in real life, as I do in video games. I do much better on left, inside turns, rather than outside, right turns. I'm better at judging distance on the side I drive on, rather than the side away from me. I have never hit a cone on my side, but have now killed three cones on my right.

Turst me you brake to late and not hard enough... Most new people do, mp5 still does. As long as you guys dont figure out the brake pedal I have nothing to fear.....

Keep in mind our race tires are about the same as a 4% gear change because they are so short. Also the extra grip we have means we come out of a turn much faster and way higher up the RPMs than you.

hey dont knock the brick, i used one up untill 2001..then i got a samller mouse size phone adn no i have a small flip phone that still looks acient compared to today standards...great pick ceasar!!

personally i cant stand the ongoing revolution of merging all the handheld devices into one.

turning cellphones into multi function devices is something i hate, indeed i do.

but for the sake of not starting an argument, Nice phone /camera/calculator/computer/voice recorder/alarm clock/ clock/ keyboard/ paper weight/ door stop/ brick/ GPS locator/ etc...

i guess you can say that i have something against those evil devices

Well you know what i get out of all this....we need to go on a run....the thread has been dead for at least a week except for kwescott, Mp5 and ulllose convs.

Malibu was a blast and not nearly as scary as i made it out to be the frist time..you san berdo folk should try it out some time...ask xrider how he thought it was.

oh keith i got my componet cables, too short so i slid them behind the back board to fit...the picture does look better but i am still hesitant to watch a movie on it yet...still reading up on that book of a manual it came with.

so what everyone doing for the super bowl this weekend besides six flags?

I'm not even going to be able to go on the Feburary run...unless you change it to the 3rd Sat. I can't believe I got to wait until March. I would have gone on the Malibu run but I had the kids that day too. And didn't you lose xrider?

As for Sunday, I'm going to the Equine Affaire in Pomona, maybe I'll see your sister there, of course I don't know what she looks like. And then to a super bowl party a bit late.
