oh man, my car might actually look dirty this Saturday!

How many cars getting Zaino'd on Saturday? (or just waxed) I lost track....
Just trying to figure out if we'll have time / room to wash / wax mine as well or if I should just concentrate on your guys' cars.

Vipers, not to rain on the parade but your seatbelts are still going to break your back in an accident.

other then that the car islooking great. I went home and beatoff when I thought about your car.

explain??? thats how the directions told me to install them! loop it around the safety loop and down to the mounting location

and mine will do exactly what a normal seatbelt does in an accident... hold you in your place... when im locked in, i cant move anywhere... because the seatbelts are wrapped around something that cannot move... so therefore my seatbelts will not move..... the problem before was i didnt have the harnessed to anything, so if i hit something, my whole seat would fly forward, throwing me into the steering wheel.... now the roll bar wont allow that to happen, cause it holds the seatbelts back..... so i think your not looking at something right, because they are installed correctly

I believe it is the angle of the belts, from where they wrap over the bars. I believe in true race harnesses, the belt go over the bar and then to the rear of the car (at a slighter angle), rather than directly down at a harsh angle.

In that second drawing you made, you'll notice that the belt does worse than go straight down, it actually comes back on itself. It may be better if, instead of going down behind the seat, it went straight towards the rear bar position (in your drawing, the far left where you have the final bar).

Just as an example...some of the Suby autocross guys have "racing harnesses"...and the kits they buy actually route the belts to the rear seats....where they mount at the top of the seat to the frame....sometimes even to the rear lap belt strap positons....they remove the bolt holding the rear lap belt strap, and replace it with the end of the racing harness strap. Wish I had a picture, but I hope you can picture that.

yeah, thats true, but on car that have back seats, most of them do what mine do, or bolt directly to the roll bar, but either way is fine

the seatbelts are actually mounted in the stock seatbelt bolt locations

I am just looking out for your well being. I dont want to see you get hurt over something like that. Keith is right it is the angle of the belt. in an accident YOUR belts will pull down on your shoulders breaking every bone in your back. the ange needs to be streight back or even up. the problem is not your bar, it is the seat being to tall for THAT bar. if you wanted to keep the seat you should get the bar moved up. or keep the bar and get a lower seat.

Just dont want to see you get hurt over a technicallity. your intenntions are correct and you did solve the "rip right through the floor" problem, but your still going to be sorry when you wreck that monster and cant drive again. :/

can you go over the bar that is above the opening for the driver? the passenger does not have this bar in this case if there were an accident the belt will be pulling down on the bar and not your shoulders. does this making sence to you? the best way of doing it would be to mount it to a bar right with or above the opening (dont you remember going through all of this with my race car. it was a BIG headache). but if you insist on mouting to the place you are, then at least get the belts to pull down on a bar and not your shoulders.

if you notice when you sit in the seat if you tighten the belt real tight you will feel them pulling down on you. this is not good, imagine that but 100 times more. they should pull back on your chest with 0 down effort on the shoulders. this way you break ribs and not back bones.

**I know Casey & Keith already said this, but I had it typed up while I was doing my picture, so I'll post it anyways**.

I think the issue w/ the seatbelt breaking your back is regarding the direction of force applied to you in a crash.

If you're moving forward in a crash, assuming there is no side impact, your momentum will take you forward, in the direction of the crash.
If the rollbar is high enough that the pressure from the belt would be straight back, then there are no worries. It holds you in place like it should. Your body pushing forward, and the seatbelt holding you back.
If the rollbar is lower than your shoulders, then the harness will apply tons of downward pressure in a crash. Your body pushing forward, and the seatbelt pulling you back and down. Obviously, downward pressure is bad.

See the lovely illustration below.

yeah, and if you wanted to take the risk, it is somehting that you could do after seven stock and the fiasco settles. I would just drive with no seat belt on is all.

and the issue with the passenger not having the same protection would really bum you out...if you ended up injuring your passenger more than yourself...given that the bar behind the driver offers greater safety (with the belt run over that is).....

plus, more power=higher speeds....with increased damage upon any impact that would occur.....

to add to the confussion, since you all understand the concept. IF and I say IF, the driver or passenger are SHORTER then the openings for the belts by enough you would still be fine as the openings would be your "higher point". although this is really not the best method, it is still somewhat safe. but if you ever got someone inthere that was tall enough (like most of us) you have the same problem. not to mention that I know you want to do track days, and most tech inspectors will never let you in like that.
