So we only have 3 confirmed to show and 2 maybe's? Wonder If it will be worth while to come out? So who usually leads at the sb meets?

The meets are usually lead by Speeddemon and normally have a turnout of 10+ cars but with AutoCross, birthdays, and the Drift event, things are a little hectic this month.

My car will be in the shop so I can't make it either...

he he he...... meeting is still on. I think we MIGHT even have some of the seven guys show up. I am pretty sure I will be there. I need a day off, so we should be there.

like Jedi said, this month just seems to be hecktec for people (including myself). but looks like we might still have a small turnout.

if you show up despite the small turnout, that will still be another 8 to add to the group for saturday. more 8s on the road = more fun

Cesar: I've got some questions about your radar detector if you don't mind.
What type is it?
How hard was it for you to hardwire it in?

Since that close call near Keith's house, I've had 4 other close calls with week with cops and radar detectors so I'm taking that as a sign. I've always been able to avoid speeding tickets but a little more advanced notice couldn't hurt...

The biggest reason I haven't gotten one is because I prefer that "clean" dash look and I'd just hate to have this thing suction cupped to the middle of my windshield all the time.

This is what I"m hoping to avoid:

Cobra 9570. Install is easy.
It really helps on the freeway for me more than anything else.
I think cops on the street use laser.
Detectors only help w/ laser if the cars ahead of you gets targeted first.
If the cop hits only you as you drive by, it's too late.

It is nice to get up to 1/2mile notice that there is a cop somewhere around you.
I've saved thousands in tickets/fines because I spent $100 on my detector 2 years ago.

Some detectors have rechargable batteries, so you don't need the wire showing all the time.
Also, I think there are some w/ remote sensors so do you don't need to mount it on your windshield. I'm sure they're crazy expensive though.

I've been looking at upgrading mine. I think after 2years of baking in the summer, it's starting to give more false Ka band signals. (Ka band is the one you really want to worry about.)

I was trying to figure out how to run something like this but I would hate to have wires all over the place:
http://www.escortradar.com/x50.htm

They do make a version that uses 2 AA batteries but I'm not sure how good it is:
http://www.escortradar.com/solo.htm

From the research I've done, it seems as though the 8500 is one of the best out on the market...

I have a valentine 1 hardwired into the light sunroof console. It was really easy to do, and the directions on the diy was really clear. Saved me a bunch on the freeway.

I'm leaning towards a Bel RX65.
http://www.beltronicspro.com/rx65.html

Many of the reviews I've read list it as top or near the top.
It's about $100 cheaper than the Escort, and Beltronics is owned by Escort, so they're probably very similar.
Check out the accessories page on Bel and Escort's page. They seem to be identical products.
The hardwire piece is only $10. Keep the original plug if you want to use it in another car on different occasions.

Here's a list of reviews on the RX65. Of course, if you look hard enough, you'll probably find reviews supporting any product.

Yeah, for every person who endorses the Bel, I find one that endorses the Escort....decisions, decisions. I'm just leaning towards the Escort because I was talking to 2 colleagues who have one and they both seem to like it.

Here's my new dilemma:
If I go with the wired 8500, I'll have to find a way to conceal the cable so it doesn't drive me nuts. I like your route of going into the top speaker but I keep reading that the radar should be placed 'higher' on the window. Something about getting a stronger signal there...who knows.

I like the thought of the cordless one but it's like a laptop: You gain the convenience of mobility but you almost always sacrifice performance.

I would definitely stay away from the cordless that runs on AA batteries.
The money you save in tickets will go to batteries.
I don't think the wire is that bad. Remember, it's not the coilwire you're using.
It doesn't need to be so high on the windshield that it annoys you.
Just high enough to see out the back window.
Or, if you mount it just under your rearview mirror, you can tap into the power from the maplights or something else. Then the wire would be out of sight.
I think the 8500 is firmware upgradeable. I think I read that once, but can't find it again.
Also, RX65 is really close to RX8.
