Been a while since I’ve posted here guys. Just read the last 20 or so pages. And yes, i did comment on your guys' posts (quoted) so as to prove that i did . I missed out on ss9 =\. I really wanted to go…..zoi. I hear that the monthly San Bernardino Meet is this Saturday, and i would LOVE to go . if GMR is where you guys are going, i'll go too (the last reply to this post has info on where i most likely crashed). i'll drive my dad's wrickity truck up the pass. i'll be in the back . If you guys wanna keep it rotaries only, i'll car pool w/somebody if anybody lets me .

Monday morning when I take my daughter to school my car has an abnormally hard start and makes a strange squeek sound. Leaving the apartment the engine lerks forward twice as bad as it usually does (when the 2 additionals ports open) in the cold monrings. When I pull away from the first light it feels like I am in 3rd gear...strange, I thought so I rev it some (high revs) like I am clearing its throat and at the next stop sign it does it again. This time the radio is off and I can hear some water swashing sounds when i pull away. Next stop sign it is still doing it so I pull over and pop the hood to look for any sort of porblem. The car feel as if it is starting in 3 gear from a stop every time, almost like it is draging something. So I drive just a bit farther to drop my daughter off and then call mazda.

Mazda sugestest to take it in (tow it). I call I Casey and Keith to get some additional opinions while waitng for the tow truck. First trunk get there (from mazd roadside service and it is a tow trunk and not a flat bed. Well with my low car and the rims and everything I dont want him to tow it to Romero so I call AAA. I specifically tell them I need a falt bed (you would think Mazda would now this when they ask about about the model). It shows up about 35 mins later and I take it to Romero.

I am now it a nice dark blue Mazda 3 (almost got a Mazda6) from Hertz rental, (Romero recently switched form Enterpirse who had god aweful rental cars.) Any way later today I find out I have a bad spark plug cable (spark plugs were replaced at the recal) and I have a coolent leak somewhere internal becasue my parking spot is not dirty and nor is teh engine. They will test the car tomorrow for the coolent leak. Most likely it will be something not so bad or a new engine says the Mazda guy. If it is an extended repair I will ask for a better rental car even though this is a great rental car from my past experinaces. I believe all the repairs will be under warrenty, altough i will confrim tis tomorrow as well. Romero has also been incontact with Mazda (higher up) to get a better understanding of the possible repairs.

Wish me luck...my car just barely made it to Sevenstock, thank you.
Wow. That must really suck!

If they gave you "free floor mats" what probably happened is one of the idiot technicians stepped in a puddle of oil that was in their garage, and he stepped into your car afterwards. not realizing that he had oily shoes until after he drove you car.

The dealership of course would not want to give you your car back damaged (lol) so they knew that you would get upset, so they decided to replace your floor mats.

just out of curiosity loren, did they give your your old floor mats back?

boy, my hate for the romero group is unbeleivable.

btw, if you leave anything of value in the car, they WILL take it. i've owned very few original CDs, and of the ones that i have purchased, ROMERO motors stole/misplaced/borrowed... call it what you want my only original CD that was in the car at the time..

and btw, it was a Smallville soundtrack.

GAH!!!
Everytime I took my car into Romero, I ALWAYS took everything out. I had a CD case, I had my pens, and from time to time, I would even leave my checkbook in the cup holder area (I would forget to take it out). But, ever since I had my s-10, I always knew to take everything out when I took it into the dealer for service. Besdies, they have disclaimers everywhere saying to remove all personal items that you don’t want to have the possibility of being “lost or stolen” .

Speaking of buying an 8. Anyone here want to buy a white 8? (fully loaded, except for nav) It's being sold by Paul over at Mazmart and it looks to be in AWESOME shape! (no, this one has not been crashed like his other cars...)
https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8s-sale-wanted-43/fs-glorious-white-100458/
I have already decided that I will be buying another 8. However, that will not be until after I graduate from school, which will be in about another two years or so. I don’t think I’ll be getting the PB like I was thinking earlier. The main reason as to why, is because I don’t think it’ll look good w/limo black tint, hahahah. I am considering the WB though. WB is closer to my favorite color/shade of blue anyways. Besides, the group needs to represent more in the blue department .

As for the white one, I don’t like the red interior. IMO, it clashes too much w/the white exterior.

I knew about the squeaky damn belts...but my sunvisor being broken....looks like the curse of Romero has struck, since I never you the damn thing. I explained to the guy I never use the visor and that I didn't bring it in broken...and he said, well, I'll have to check with the technician then, to see what is wrong with the visor. He said this is a common part to break on the 8, saying that he has replaced them several times...4 times on one guys car.

anybody have broken window visors? Anybody even use their visors?
Good to know that your car passed the recall . As for the visor thing, I used mine every once in a while, even though I had that limo black 6in. strip at the top. Mine never once broke…even after the accident, lol.

I believe it is shown in this video. The very last frame (where the video stops) I’m pretty sure is the turn I caught air . Now, I’m not positive on this because many turns are like it, but from what I can gather in the video, it is what most closely resembles where it was that I had crashed.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...44233242&q=gmr

Now, like i said, i'm not positive that this is where i crashed, but it is what looks most like it. Once there, i know i'll recognize it. I do remember though, that it was well before the bridge. below are the pix of where i believe it is that i crashed. It is the only turn like it, and it is before the bridge.

Actually, I read an article a couple months back that said the star won't be lit this year.
Apparently, it cost several thousands to light, and the owner pays most of it himself.
The only reason it was lit the last several years was because of donations.
I was trying to find the article, but I can't.
I'm pretty sure it was in the daily bulletin, but I checked their website and couldn't find it.

WOAH! you guys have been very post happy!

GMR is a possibility. I would love to do it so I can see what all the hype is about, my only problem is that it makes for a very long day and a LOT of gas. (could always bring the Cobalt )

on a side note.
I agree that our runs are not always white knucle, (usually due to traffic) but when we do get to open it up, those of us up in the front get to push it rather hard. (just ask Jesse when he went with me) there have been more then one occassion that I personally have pushed harder then I should on the street (including the run before last). but unless you are in the front you dont get a chance to open it up. when we went to Malibu I was expecting a very fast pace run, but being a middle car I just kept cathing up to the RX-8 in front of me.

our biggest problem here is we usually hit traffic.

how is GMR and traffic on a Saturday. from what I hear every cycleist and motorcycles hit up that road (including cops).

not trying to talk everyone out of it, I am just curiouse, I have never been there. it sounds and looks awsome. I would imagine the best run we have ever done x 5 also would be nice to do something differant. I dont want everyone to get tired of the same ol runs. (we have about 4 routs so far.) again, just makes for a long day and a lot of gas :/

I've done GMR. It's cool.
The problem I have w/ it is the stupid kids coming head on that cross the center lane.
And, I've heard it's crawling w/ cops on weekends, but I don't know if that's true.
It's obviously a place the cops could have a field day writing tickets, but so was the Malibu run, and I didn't see any.
If we do GMR, I won't be leading, and I won't be going ***** out either.
Most of the turns are blind, and I don't want a motorcyclist in my windshield.

yes.. most the turns are blind. i havent run GMR from the MT baldy side for a while. i usually go up azusa canyon and end up at the GMR transistion. even then, its usually late, VERY late. people race up there for money time to time so i go slow at night.

the last 2 trips ive been up there, ive seen 2 accidents. both times they were older guys that thought they knew what they are doing. the ricer scene has kinda calmed down around there from a few years ago. keep in mind that this is 40+ minuets into GMR. we wont get that far...

also, from our end (mtbaldy entrance), its gonna be mostly bikes. it is VERY rare that they cross lanes. i used to ride up there every weekend about 2 years ago.

as for cops... i dont know. havent been on the east side for too long. i would imagine that theyd be on the west side more. ive only seen one cop up there... ever.

I would think this would be the better route, just my opinion. I also think the 15 is going to have closures.

here are directions if i cant make it sat.

take the 210 and exit mt baldy and head north. it will turn residential for a bit and there will be a HUGE sweeper (easily 120+MPH if you wanna get on it... its chambered too ) that loops right... then back left and you stop at a stop sign. after the stop sign, there is a long flat straight that is just under a 1/4 mile i think that leads into a series of 70-80mph corners. then you cross a bridge that is shaped like a half circle if that makes sense (its over 180 degrees i think. concrete is slippery here so slow down). the road then leads you up hill to a stop sign (keep right). make a right turn and youll be on mt. baldy. im nos sure how fast ill be in my car but on my bike, i was at 100-110mph in the corners and 140-160mph in the straights but thats pushing it with R compounds. my guess is we should be at about 60-100 in turns and 80-120 in the straights depending on how comfortable you are.

all of the turns on MT BALDY pretty predictable and consistent except one. WHEN YOU GET TO THE TUNNEL SLOW DOWN!!! if you look on the ground here, youll always see at least 2 sets of skid marks going right into a busted up stone wall. this corner entry is sharper then all the previous 20 or so corners. after that there are a few more consistent corners, youll go up and down a pretty large hill that leads you into a residential area. now keep your eyes on the left. youll see a road that goes up with a gate. that is the entry to GMR and the end of mt baldy part of the drive.

up until now, the lvl of difficulty is low..
heading past the gate, youll see a place to park your car off to the right. this is an awesome picture opportunity. it gives you a clear view over the valley as well as the mountain tops.

GMR will be hairy if your trying to keep pace with the more aggressive drivers if your fairly new to your car and the road. but if you take it easy, its just like any other scenic drive. the view is great! there is no need to push it.

OOOH!!! I am excited. This will be my first time over GMR. First time at pirate city tattoo too.
If we are stopping to take pictures, I need to wash my car that morning. Are there any good DIY or touchless car washes near Pirate city?

GMR isn't a long run at all, I remember seeing some tire marks on the road that leads straight into a wall..man I feel sorry for that guy. And not long ago my cousin crashed his 06 civic si there. Man I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about taking GMR..!!! On the good side, there's an open lot at the end where we can park and hangout for awhile before headng back.

My opinion of GMR is that I would not be comfortable leading the pack if you expect to drive anywhere near the speeds that ghost is talking about. I'll be in the rear taking the scenic route. I'm no longer interested in driving that fast on the roads...ever since finding autocross, my appetite for driving hard has been satisfied.

I also think that I would like to avoid the drive over to Pirate, and then backtracking all the way back to Mountain Ave. I'll probably have a small meet at Beryl Park for those interested...and then maybe the Pirate City guys can drive to Beryl? If you leave Pirate by 9:45, you would be at Beryl by 10:15/10:20. I could have those interested, meet at Beryl at 10:00 and you could give me a call when you leave Pirate.

Thoughts from the Rancho (or other western I.E.) folks...?

@Jedi - From OC, take the 57 North to the 210 East.
Then follow gh0st's directions.

GMR is as tough as you make it.
There's a lot of hype built around it, because it has a lot of history of races and crashes, but it's like anything else we've done.
Go as fast as you feel comfortable.
Just remember, almost every turn is a blind one, so be prepared for anything, and don't tailgate.
