4 used V710's....great for anyone looking to autocross and have an extra set of wheels. 100 bucks for all four, plus shipping.

ugh... today was the final straw that broke the camel's back. and, i think i am done w/ this car. i love it to death, but it's almost like i've been jinxed to hell from day 1- 'cuz i've had nothing except bad luck w/ it since i got it. the irony is, it's paid off in full next month- just in time for me to hit 4500 miles. (wow, how sad is that?) i think i'm just going to sell it for whatever i can get and take the loss... probably the most expensive mistake i've ever made. god just doesn't want me to own this car for some reason... <sigh> detrich is so, so sad...

well, a couple of things.
first, the mobile detailer came by and told me it would cost around a grand to fix the water spots. he'd have to first use some optical measuring device to figure out how much clearcoat he can work with. he said typically the most he can go is 3mm. he said it looks pretty bad. all because of using goddamn mr. clean auto dry for a year and a half.
second, when the sun came out i looked at my glass and i almost cried. it's basically scratched up from the razor- including the parts of my windshield etc. i went back to the dealer and showed the service manager this am. i told him that i came to them for help with this problem and followed the specificl solution they gave me. (the service mgr himself showed & told me to clean it this exact way and that it would be safe- but that obviously it was not.) and, now the situation is a million times worse because all my windows are fubar. and, of course he wouldn't take any responsibility and said- well it's because "i" didn't do it correctly and that it really doesn't look that bad or that he didn't even notice until i pointed it out. (yah, right.)
i mean if he didn't know what to do. then he should've said "i don't know" or refer me to someone. i grilled him this am- again- and he says they don't know any good vendors for detailing or cleaning windows or any of this stuff. and, again, i said. well, i am less knowledgeable than u guys because i'm not even in the car business and that i'm not blaming u. but, i came to u guys asking for help. and, things turned out a million times worse.
i just don't know what to say. it hurts to look at my car now.

that's not that bad. think of it like this.....a grand and a half (mr. clean and window repair), is alot cheaper than buying another car .
and umm....if you do want to get rid of it, think i can get dibs?
lol, jk

yah, but it's been a completely, all-consuming & miserable process. and, because i feel like i'm jinxed- i feel that things are only going to continue to get worse with each step i try to do to correct the problems.
ie something is going to inevitably go wrong with the detail job. and, are the windows even fixable? the dealer sure had no clue whatsoever when i asked them. and, of course even if there is a way to fix it- it probably will go awry. ie they might do some other damage while working on it. (the dealer quoted about another grand & a half just to replace the front windshield and rear-passenger side push out window.)
i feel like that stupid old lady in the childrens' nursery rhyme that swallowed a cow to catch the dog to catch the cat to mouse to catch the fly she swallowed, or however it goes.... basically, a bottomless pit of problems/ misery. <sigh>
i know i'm venting too. but, once the dust settles, i really dunno. it just feels so hopeless right now... but, to answer ur ? yes, u can have dibs...

detrich: you're just worked up about this right now, trust me...I went through a similar phase when Mother Nature decided she hated my car.
Here's what I think you should do: Leave the car alone for a week, put a car cover on it, and just drive the BMW around everywhere. Out of sight, out of mind kinnda stuff. We're not running from the problem, we're simply removing you from the thing that is causing so much frustration right now.
A week or so from now: take the cover off, fire up that RX-8 and drive the hell out of it. Find a road you like to take, take a scenic drive near the beach, whatever kind of drive makes you happy. You'll realize then why it is you bought this car...because it truly is a beautiful machine that YOU love to drive.
When you return home, I have no doubt your mind will again go back to the windows and paint...at that point, think it through rationally and lets work on a way to get this car back to her original shape.
I have a connection at Ford who could probably get you some windows if you want them, don't sweat that too much. As for the paint: are the water spots just in there reallly bad? Do you think this is something that our collective Zaino Master Skills couldn't fix?

Gerry, I know what you are feeling...remember back when I thought I NEEDED to sell my car. Well, since then, I have had my paint sandblasted, my front windshield looks like it came out of a 47 pickup truck...several pieces of lumber hit me, cracking my MS front bumper, and now my current problems with my clutch.
You just have to roll with the punches, and allow us on this board to make you feel better about your car. It is understandable to get down. I am enjoying my car, even though I know I would love it better if I could see through my windsheild. I still get the looks, and I still have a blast every month at the autocross. This is what I need from my car. I couldn't get this from another car at this point....one that would be affordable and just as fun/practical.
Tell you what, if you were able to convince yourself to bring the car out to the speedway and do a couple laps you would feel much better.
I know I will get my paint fixed, I know I will eventually get a new front windshield....but what is the hurry....(cause I know something will happen afterwards anyways ).
Come out to the cruise Saturday, come race your car on Sunday....enjoy the lifestyle man. Life is too short.
But if you really want to sell your car, I would love to trade my car for one with only 4500 miles....oh, to start all over again would be nice Oh, and no car payment, oh how I wish. You're lucky...keep that in mind.
How many people on this thread are one month away from paying off their 8...anyone?
Go and do something crazy with the car...since your doing paint, go get another color sprayed on top....go buy some carbon fiber peices or something. You have plenty of options, you just don't know about all of them yet.

Detrich - Bring your car to the meet this Saturday. I have spent a ton of time behind a buffer. ( colour sanding and buffing ) We can all take a look at it. There is a good chance that your detail job can cost a whole lot less than you think. and as for the glass . . . Glass is cheap. Replacing glass is simple and cheap. Never give up on your 8!!! Because to have no car payment on it . . ??!!?? I would give my left nu. . . . . .well . . . . i would give up alot to have no payment.

thanks guys...
i felt SO terrible this am after seeing the damage, and talking to the dealer service manager just made me feel even more hopeless. it just seems so ridiculously impossible that i thought i was losing my mind. i know it doesn't just happen to me. for as little as i drive my 8 tho, i've really had some extraordinarily, self-inflicted, bad luck. i'll think about what you guys said. and, i still plan on going saturday and look forward to seeing everyone.
thanks again,
gerry

wow what a list for saturday i may have to go...bring the family as well.
detrich, keith has a good point (although autocross does cost money) and also think of it this way, it is only cosemtic, mechancial good be a whole lot worse. maybe the estiamte are just gouges (sp) and i am sure zaino can fix anything!
