yah, tell me about it... <sigh>

parts-wise, the dealer quoted me $737.84 (front windshield) and $204.80 (rear, passenger-side push out). i'm guessing installation would cost another few hundred. so, i'm looking at $1,200 to replace those two pieces with OEM glass.

i still don't know if my existing glass is fixable or not (all the razor blade scratches). i've been searching on google and found a few auto glass places. mmm... do any of u know of good, local places or do u know if any of these vendors are good? i will start calling to see what they say.

1. http://www.safelite.com/ [do repair &/or replacement]
2. http://www.harmonautoglass.com/default.aspx [do repair &/ or replacement]
3. http://www.diamondautoglass.com/autoglass.aspx [only do replacement. $100 if i buy the glass myself and they install it.]

thanks,
gerry

P.S. the 2 auto glass vendors the dealer gave me turned out to be totally dead leads. one turned out to be an aftermarket wheel vendor, and the other one the number is disconnected. man, i dunno who i hate more- procter & gamble or alhambra mazda. >

Gerry, I had a rock jump up and crack my windshield a few months back. I remember calling the dealership for a quote on the window and I was in SHOCK over the $700+ they wanted for it.
Trust me, windshields are not that expensive. I ended up getting an OEM approved window for about $250 or so (installed!) You saw my car last month at the meet...could you tell the difference? nope, no one can.

wow. where did u go Jorge? $250 is a great deal! i just got off the phone with Safelight, and they still quoted me $460 for the front windshield. but, they did sound very professional...

maybe i can get the shop + contact info from you and just take a day of work, drive down to OC, and get this taken care of? thanks for your help

(the chemical spots were etched in from mr. clean autodry over time. which, btw is a separate sob story. but, long story short, stay the hell away from mr. clean auto dry.)

anyways. the windshields & moodroof came out fairly well- clean & no marks of any kind, and the spots mostly came off. so, i then proceeded to start working on the rear, passenger-side window. however, to my complete horror, the quality or grade of that glass is nothing like the windshields or moonroof. and, that window is completely ruined now w/ razor marks- even though i glided fairly gently. <sob> sob <sob>

the dealer never said anything about the difference in glass quality or what not. and, i'm not any kind of expert in this area. so, here i was all happy that my windows would FINALLY be clean again- only to discover i've just made a super expensive mistake! <ugh> i think i'm going to have to get that entire window replaced now- 'cuz i don't know what else to do at this point....
You can get winshields buffed or get something to fill in the scratches.

Or you can do what I do......... Go to Lowes hard ware and get some triple lot or 0000 steel wool in the paint department.

Cleans pits and scratches easily. Problem is ...... It's a lot of work.

Ok Ok if I make it this week end you will see my windsheild. It works.

Unfortunately not good enough for the old 94 Buick. It had so many pits I couldn't see when driving into the sun. Had to use #1 steel wool.

I can see now but the pits are real deep.. too much work to make it perfect, but it looks crystal clear when not driving into the sun and when driving into the sun I can see!

I'll see if I can rememeber to bring some Saturday.

xrider, the video card can cause the computer to not turn on and/or reboot repididly (i know you work for evga, but its happened to me)
the common problem when not having a video card installed is one long beep followed by one very short beep. the machine will still turn on. i have yet to come across a machine that does not post upon removing the gfx card like you are describing.

i'd go and help fix the machine on saturday, but i work weekends now as well. so, i can't go help fix the machine, nor can i go to the memorial drive up to crestline.

Are you using water for this process?
My windshield is very pitted, and I've been thinking of getting something to smooth it out.

...and bring some wool so you can do one of those convention demonstrations on my windsheild. I'll also bring a shoe, a lead pipe, and a soft tomato, so you can cut them with your Ginsu knives

and, if you don't have much done..the swarm will quickly walk away all dejected Just joking. Actually, coming to a really big meet might be best, this way, you don't feel the pressure of going up to meet everyone..you can just be a bystander and check other people out. Come up and say hi to Speeddemon and I though.

not now....who in their right (non-gay) mind would? lol.

ok, enough of that....lets stick with Saturday after the cruise. Traffic out your way on Friday is horrible...

Anyone up for a late breakfast at Farmer Boys tomorrow, prior to the meet? If we need to be at the meet location by 10:30...would suggest that we need to leave Farmer Boys by 10:00....so, meet at Farmers Boys at 9:15?

CRAP---I just realized, the San Bernardino Calendar may be cursed.

ok, we all know there is a silver curse out there....but we have one on the verge of developing....I would call it the Calendar Curse.

...and this curse would have to deal with the San Bernardino Calendar. Now, I don't want to scare people, but we do have to remember that KrazieKave had the month of November for the 2006 calendar....he didn't have his car by the time we got to November to enjoy his page....

....Xrider01 didn't have his car by the time we flipped to his month either.

...I was thinking of selling my car prior to my month as well (possible diverting a curse).

..and thinking about it....did we even hear from Toca anymore, by the time we got to his page? I know he is still around, but he did get into that accident about the time of his page in April I think.

I MUST INSIST....that all calendar cars be kept until their calendar months.....please....lets avoid a curse, cause I like making a calendar.
