status update: my windows
for those who care to know, i got my car back from Safelight Auto Glass in Pasadena yesterday. and, overall i'd say they did a very good job.
the rubber molding under the bottom of the rear winshield was curling upward a bit because it was rubbing up against the not-fully-closed trunk while setting. when i inquired about it they said that they don't completely close the trunk, because they don't want to slam it shut & cause vibrations right after mounting the rear glass. i've taped the rubber down with some masking tape and hopefully since it's still new rubber, it will go back down into it's orginal shape. i also noticed that they made quite a bunch of dust scratches (micro scratches) on my trunk because they covered it during the install. but, i think those should buff right out w/ the porter cable and some sonus polish. still need to check the rear defrosters & so forth, but my gutt feeling is that it should be ok. from start to finish these guys were very professional, courteous, and patient.
i went back to their shop again today to get some photos of the damaged glass, and i explained to them what had happened to me at the dealer & with mazda. we took all the pieces into the sunlight and mounted them on their racks, and the instant the sunlight beamed on the glass, they were like- holy ****, your windows ARE fucked up. and, the Safelight service manager couldn't believe that a mazda service manager actually told me use a razor blade to clean it. he said that u should never use a razor on glass- period- and if so only do it as an absolute, very, very last resort and only for small sections. he was really cool and gave me a bottle of their special glass cleaner and also said that if i need to use him as a reference to verify the damage that he'd be happy to do it.
honestly, THAT is the kind of service that i feel the mazda dealer & corporate should have given me. not all the utter BS & lying-to-my-face crap. this experience reminded me that there are still good vendors out there who care about their customers and care about doing a good job. total damage: about $1,500 otd for front, rear, and pass-side corner glass.
safelight doesn't do sun/ moonroofs. so, i have to call around dealers to find out about that one. galpin mazda quoted me $700. Star Mazda also quoted $700, but told me they've actually never replaced moonroof glass on an RX-8 before. (really makes me want to go there, doesn't it? jackasses) Sierra Mazda kept transferring me around and never actually got me to a service advisor. <sigh>

ps.
safelight told me there are 2 types of moonroofs: (1) bolt on and (2) urethane glued on.
they said that if it's urethane they recommend not changing it out. but, that if it's bolt on it should be really easy. (i might be able to order the glass from mazda and bring it over and pay to have them install it.)
do any of u know which type our car has?
(i think jorge had his moonroof changed not long ago right?)
thanks in advance for everyone's help.

Glad to hear that your windows are looking much better! I had the sunroof TSB done on my car but it only required them to remove it so they could replace the tracks it sits on.
They removed the tracks and put in new ones. (the glass stayed the same)

Again, 100% of KBB can be financed as long as the car is less than 5 years old with fewer than 80,000 miles.
Vipers - if you have any trouble getting a loan, let me know. there are several banks that will use different types of proof for showing income. Best bet is to call your current company that your mazda is through ( probably FMCC or MAC ) and ask them about a new loan.

I am in the market still for getting an 8 but just trying to keep a stable job around has been my problem. I have an 05 Mazda3s base stock i am going to be trading in with a few cosmetic flaws and 24k on it. How much do you think i will be able to get for this little one?

wow... i didnt know they made a wagon rx8..lol.......
im really contemplating on going and looking at that yellow one.... but that red one is nice too.... im not sure as to getting a new one or a low mileage used one and not deal w/ dealer markup and instantly being way upside down on yet another car..or getting a car that is worth what i paid and a little used....

You guys are confusing me! Michael is Kevin or Kevin is Michael.....Rglbegl is Jedi...and Jedi, well he's just strange!
Jesse, I know selling a car you love is hard but it sound like in the end you'll be happy you did. Most of us have sold a car we loved. Even now my mom misses her 3rd gen rx7 when I drive her in my 8. Although, she loves the fact that she doesn't end up in the parking lot with a beautiful car that won't start.

Jessie, Fuel sent me a pm, stating that he has found fully loaded 06's (priced at 33,000) being let go for around 24,000. Talk to him, sned him a pm and he can let you know what is going on.....
Makes me wonder whether I could just go in right now...give the dealer my fully setup 8, and trade for a brand new 8 and keep my existing payment. Would be nice to have a new 8 with 0 miles......wouldn't be nice to have to pay for all the mods again.....but I would do it differently this time around. Go with a base model, stay away from weight adding mods....go, al performance. Probably even get a set of Enkei, powder coated flat black with some nice street tires so I could do more Streets of Willow type stuff...or, maybe even use them for autocross for the "STU" index....

keith.. yeah, me and fuel were talking while we were waiting for ghost rider to start last night.. he is my little bro's friend... he and i are both in the markiet... that will really suck having to trade your car in w/ all that mazdaspeed stuff on it.... id probubly swap it all w/ ericas stock parts first... especially since the dealer wont give a rats tooty that you have all that on.. they will still give you the same price stock or modded....then at least ericas will have some suspension

good call. Dealers will give you the same amount for it stock or trick. Take a few of your good parts for the snowflake, and trade it in with her old stock parts.
