Testing Waters here---of course, you guys would get first dibs

Thinking about parting out my car, of course, most of the autocross related items would be swapped onto Snowfl8ks' 8, but there are still some other parts that I would be willing to pull from my car. I haven't thought about pricing, but just wanted to gauge interest. Most of you guys know the condition of my car, how much care I take to keep things perfect, and the damage that I have received due to the sandblasting, as well as the crack in the rear bumper. I would need stock parts in exchange for some of these, but not all:

Parts list:
Axial Flow Short Shifter (no stock exchange needed)
Racing Beat REVi Intake (not to include the cold air duct...no stock exchange needed)
Racing Beat REV8 Exhaust (I would need your stock exhaust)
19'' Volk GT7's with the Dunlop Tires (I would need your stock rims/tires)
PIE adaptor for Ipod (nothing to exchange for this one)
OEM Footwell lighting (again, no exchange for this one)

MS front Bumper (I would need your stock bumper. This part would need to be repainted. It also has a small crack with is hardley noticeable from when I got him with the wood on the freeway).

MS rear Bumper (I would need your rear bumper. This part does not need painting, paint is in excellent condition, but there is a crack in the stock bumper underneath)

MS Wing (I would need your stock wing)

MS Side Skirts....don't think there is a way to pull this off because it would leave too many holes in the side of the car and would greatly reduce trade in/private party value.

GT Grounding Kit (bought off Ebay...no exchange needed)

I'll post additional parts when they come to me...PM Me if you are interested in a part. I would be willing to assist you with the install, or swap with your stock part...at my house.

OEM Fender strakes
My Red-out Rear Tail Lenses (I would need your stock lenses...and please, these are in perfect condition, please don't give me a set of fog-prone rears).

Found these the other day... thought they were funny!

Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you take the wall with you."

wow is the rotulation alegience swaying...this is what i just dont understand about the tuning community? why is the ownership period so short and the turn around prcocess on new cars is so fast. i love the fact that i will have my car some time. heck if i was going to keep it for a few years i would do a lease or by a cheaper car.

wait, were talking about an exhaust, not a home.

I think appeal for Keith is an opportunity for a car that will outperform his 8 on the track. I don't think keith expected to autocross when he bout the RX-8 and now he seems to have found a new passion.

Couple of experiences lately that will help explain where thoughts are going.

1) Went to Streets of Willow with Denward (Ghost). The 8 was extremely fun to drive, but not even competitive with any of the other turbo'd cars out there...even slightly modded RSX's were difficult to outrun.

2) The Recent Autocross just this Sunday was the most telling. A fully prepped EVO9 in BSP trim, pulled a 58 second lap time and was top car of the day. The course was not set up well for the 8, and the cars that did best were those with high torque and HP numbers. Ulllose, who is usually one of the top guys at the track at each event even commented on the amount of bogging/slow corners on this weekends course. He turned in a 62....4 seconds behind the EVO....even with a middle of the pack driver in the car, the car turned a 60/61. I pulled a 63.5, and still had more time out there.

3) Went down to SD and codrove with Jessie in his stock EVO. Was not impressed, honestly, and really had a hard time trying to compare this with how my 8 was when it was stock. Casey shared a picture that helped me recall....which is in my signature. My 8 has come a long way, but there really isn't much more that I could do to increase power or torque.

The mods are out there, and there is much to be done with an EVO....but the mods seem to make actual changes...where as with the 8, it seems to be more of a "butt-dyno" change, not, actual numbers change. With the Evo, change is obvious.

The benefits that I have, is that we have two 8's. I can keep the performance parts and transfer them over to Erica's 8...and can continue to compete in that car as we learn more from other EVO autocrossers, on how to properly set up an EVO. I don't lose much, besides my 8, which I love. I know that Casey is also considering getting an EVO, which is a much harder decision for him given that he doesn't have another 8 to compete in during the time of his EVO build up.

BSP, locally at least, looks like it will be competitive, in either an RX8 or an EVO...as long as the EVO that ran 58's this weekend continue to race outside of BSP. That driver knows he could stomp everyone currently in our car class, cause no one has the experience or car prep to keep up.

Experience, as well as car prep both play crucial rolls in autocross. The same goes for the street courses, which I will never compete in, but would enjoy doing more practice days....the EVO is a lot stronger on those courses.

Always wanted a turbo'd car..was one of the first inline when the Greddy kit came out...but the install prices were too high back then, and there was just not enough long term data. I'm so happy I didn't go that route, as I would have experienced the headaches that others have suffered do to blown engines.

I initially was looking at the STI, when I bought the 8. Went with the RX8, mainly because of insurance costs and styling appeal. The car was hot, new, rare, and had something called a rotory engine (which I knew nothing about). I was coming from a Civic, so this car was godly in comparison. Definately the best vehicle I have owned to date. Insurance costs are still a bit higher, but are more in my abilities now.

Casey and I have been talking a lot over the last two, three weeks....starting on the day Jessie got his EVO. It got us thinking, and we haven't yet been able to put the thought to rest.

As I have told Casey, I'm not committed to the rotary engine, but I am commited to the people I have met since buying this car...and enjoy the time spent around cars, building them up, racing, and sharing the experiences that the cars provide.

I know I will own many cars in my lifetime....I still want a Vette, a Porsche....and I'm sure the list will grow...

I seriously hope that guy shows up again next meet, someone should have gotten a video and put it up on you tube.

As for my avatar, its Chiaki Kuriyama who played Go-Go from Kill Bill. I just got a idea to use that for my avatar since my friend looks alot like her.

Then you were being a pu$$... We had one with us and crushed it.

Dont think for a minute you will buy an Evo and be faster. I would bet you will be slower unless you dump $10-15k in it like the one that whooped you. Stock they drive like a truck.

You will never find a car that will make you a fast driver. You need to step it up before you worry about more mods or another car. Also as long as you will not 100% setup a car, like the Berry Evo, you will always be behind even when your skills get to that level. So decide if you want to get serious or just have fun like you have been doing.

p.s. I still think you went the wrong way when you bailed on STU. That is the slowest class you can run an RX8 in, and it still gets a lot of mods.

i think i understand how keith feels somewhat... after some time with the rx, power ultimately seems to be that one thing that keeps coming back to haunt us. esp for u guys with more driving & tuning experience.

the friends that originally got me interested in the rotary to begin with have mostly moved on, sold their cars, and bought honda s2ks, or blown their engines so many times due to turbo issues that their cars now just sit gathering dust awaiting the rebuild that they don't have time/ energy to slave through. they don't even tune or do anything with their FD's anymore, and that's why i had to find this web site and make new friends (u guys)- which i'm very happy to have found though.

my one friend who had the fastest FD among all of those guys (dyno'd around 400 hp) when it was "running" said he's finally accepting the sad reality that he just doesn't have time or energy to re-build & re-tune it back to its glory days and will prolly sell it to get the 07 mustang gt500 instead. he said once u get used to THAT much power, it's really hard to settle for anything less. and, he regrets ******* around with his engine when it was running so incredibly well. (we all used to joke that he had a "magic" engine, because the sum was greater than all the parts.) he knows that he "got greedy" while trying to push to get to the 500hp mark. but, with a baby on the way- there's just no way to get it back to where it was. it's sad cuz he had a beautiful full-body repaint done, but then left it almost completely disassembled in his garage.

maybe mazda will save us in a year or two with a new rotary offering to help us catch-up. but, in the meantime, i'm just enjoying the car for what it is now and am having fun driving and going to all the meets etc.

All i have to say is that i am extreamly happy with my car. the looks the feel the performance. I came form a 240sx so of course it was a step up but i plan on my next car being a step up from this (the GTR!) yeah right not now if the house hunt goes through but for sure soemthing nice or maybe a RS Audi. To me the 8 has no down fall besides gas and comparatively its is the same as a big suv or truck with better looks so i will stick with it. There really isnt a car out there right now that is within 10k of the 8 that i would rather have as far as features performance and style. i dont plan on major upgrade to the engine either i am not that savie(sp).
ok my .02 are done

So I talked to KC... It sounds like while he and KW were still suffering from heat stroke on Sun Vipers sold them on the Evo. ;(

well, that pretty much describes my point of view also.

as keith said we have talked about thsi pretty much since Jesse got his car. I have always loved the Evo and have been wanting one. it has always been in the back of my mind. When Jesse got his it re sparked the intrest. this time I dont think it will go away.

First and formost I must say that I absolutly love my RX-8. I love the way it looks, I love the way it drives, I love the attention it gets, and I love the RX-8 community.

It has also had a couple major down falls from day one. its not a a fast car. it is a quick car, but not fast. I have always hated when people go "man nice car, is it fast?" and my answer to that is "yeah in the turns, but not so much in a steight line". I have two guys at work in a mustang, and the other in a 350Z that know nothing about cars, but theres are faster (power wise). liek keith said, it would be nice to step up the power.

another major down fall of the RX-8 is the power potential. I have a $500 flywheel, $200 set of pulleys, $200 intake, and I gained 20 h.p. I can put a $500 cat back on and pick up another 3 h.p. the mods you do (power wise) to the RX-8 just dont do anything. it would be nice to put that $1400 into a car and get well over 100 h.p. and 100 ft pounds of tourque.

the RX-8 is a very good handling car, and moving to a understeering evo would be hard on the track, but a set of coilovers, and a little work should fix that. hopefully Isley is willing to help a former RX-8 owner out. he has expressed to me how much it would take to make the evo handle as well as the RX-8 on the track, but it is possible. I will never be as fast as the berrys in the white evo as I dont have 15k to put into it. but I think with the same amount of work I have in the 8 put into the evo, it should be a faster car. Isley agreed (didnt you???)

another reason for me is that we are looking to start a family in about 2 years. the RX-8 is not a resonalbe 4 door. we once put car seats in the back.... that sucked! the trunk does not fit a stroller for crap. the Evo is a real 4 door. I sat in the back seat with Keith in front of me, and my 6'2" fat *** didnt even have my knees touching the back of the front seat. (I have no idea how confy Keith was though)

still a little confused at this point. it seems like the Evo would be a better choice for me. it has more power, the power potential is higher, its the same price, with a moderate suspension it will handle as good. I can still play on 285's.

down side is I wont have a rotary anymore. and I would have to reebuild a fun car.

the meets would still be put on. I could never leave the rotary community for good. I absolutly love everyone I have met on this and the 7 forums. I have some of my best friends here. this thread means a lot to Michelle and I.

Isley, I know I asked you over the phone, but with a decent set of coilovers, sways, and a set of 285's do you think the Evo can run with the RX-8 through the corners? (obviously it will whoop it in the streights) (and a decent set of coilovers meaning nothing insane and crazy, but not crap. I think you stated the $1,500 range would be good)

EDIT: yeah had a nice long talk with ULLOSE, (thank you for your input! and thanks for confusing me more) he is not for it, but seemed to somewhat agree with some of my reasons. (4 door, and power potential. he does not like the handling though..... or the 15k required to run 100% BSP) (on a related note, what would it take $ wise to run 100% BSP RX-8.... not that I want to do it. and how would 100% evo do against 100% Rx-8?)

Mod for mod the RX8 will always handle better. If you put equal suspension, tires etc on both cars the RX8 still has the advantage of less weight and way better balance. the Evo is going to get it done on corner exit grip, AWD, and brute power. There is no doubt the Evo will make a better BSP car. The RX8 is not even as good as an S2000 in BSP, it weighs about 200 lbs more and in BSP trim you are making less power than a stock S2K. So you are making the right choice for BSP. The difference is now you really have to work over the suspension to the max just to get it near what your RX8 will do with a so so BSP suspension.

I would guess you could drop another $5k on your RX8 and it would still not be a top BSP car. It just has no torque.

Thanks ULLOSE.

interesting on your thoughts of the RX8 handling over the evos handling.
