Parting out worth it?

I owned my Rx8 for about a year and a power surge totaled my car. Its too expensive to repair and the scrapyard only wants to give me 500 for it. How easy is it to part out the RX8? How quick have you gotten replies and what were they for? I have the Series 2 with the red interior. I need to get more cash out of this because it was my daily driver and I lost my job and need a car to commute. I can't repair the car either, everything got fried. I need at least 1.5 grand out of this so I can purchase a miata my friend is offering to me. I have tools, no engine jack though. or is it better to just send it to the scrap yard?

All depends on condition. If the interior is in good condition, that alone could go for 500. Wheels and tires another 500. Body panels and plastic trim parts potentially worth something to someone. Engine and trans, if known good, 500 each. You can still give the junkyard an empty shell for some money.

It's going to take time to find a buyer for all this though, and find a way to ship the big parts. If you need money urgently, it might be faster to negotiate with the junkyard.

Power surge? Fuses are supposed to protect you from those, what happened?

If you're only going to get $500 for it, I'd bet somebody would love to give you that much (or maybe a bit more) for it to turn it into a LeMons car.

I mean, I would but I don't have anywhere to store it.

i parted out my 8 after it was totaled by a deer, took a while but my brother owns a shop and i have a garage so storing parts wasnt an issue. i still have some stuff laying around tho. think i sold a lot tho and easily past your 1.5k mark without even selling the engine and trans

like others said, whats a power surge?

The voltage regulator failed and the output exceeded the safe level for my electronics. Broke alot, including my ignition, dash, radio and accessory ports (cig lighter was fine though -_-)
