Picked it up today! (San Jose, CA)
We just picked up our Blue RX-8 today!
We got the call from the dealer (Oak Tree Mazda, on Stevens Creek) on Tuesday, told to pick it up today at 11:30. We each went for a little test drive to be sure about it, handles SWEET. Husband managed to stall it leaving the parking lot, so he warned me to rev it before putting in gear. Saleswoman kindly let husband know that I managed my test drive with nary a stall or shudder. Managed to get up to 79 on I-280 without realizing it, probably still in 3rd gear. The engine only growls if you rev it in first, maybe in 2nd, very smooth once in 3rd and above. Not used to a car that doesn't redline until 9000 rpm.
We were supposed to be in the second allocation, so I asked why we were getting the first car sold. She said that we didn't order that much extra stuff, so our car had fewer inspections necessary. The two cars (ours and a Titanium Grey) that came in Tuesday were both 6-speed manuals; the automatics are coming in later, so our gain for wanting a real driving experience. (I did note a comment in another thread about some of the cars failing emissions tests, wonder if they were the automatics.) The owner of the Titanium Grey is on vacation right now and wants to fly home immediately to pick it up!
Today when we arrived the carrier trucks were unloading at least five more RX-8s, saleswoman said not all were sold yet. Looks like some of the pre-orders might have cancelled! Probably will be marked up at least $2500. We paid sticker, had pre-ordered back in February. Don't know how these were configured but she said they got a "bonus" allocation. Either that or massive dropout! So show up tomorrow and see if you like anything on the lot!
Husband is out with the car right now, had to show it to his best friend. I am taking daughter to her camp tomorrow in it, show it off some more! The blue looks terrific in the sun, it's rich but not dark. So, are we the first in N. Cal or does anyone else have one yet? We are definitely the first from Oak Tree.
Can't wait until more start arriving so we can have a meetup.

Hello Madhaus,
Your car and the gray have been in previous thread conversation when they arrived a couple days ago.

As far as I know, you are the first in N. California, congrats... It's been about a week since the 1st person received their car.
EDIT: Just noticed you posted in the thread above! There have been quite a few cars delivered in S. California, don't think you are 3rd in California, but you prob have good ranking in N. Cali.

And here it is!
I should have posted a picture with the first message. Here is the car, love that blue! The kids think this car is great, obviously joining their parents' love for all things fast.
It's difficult to figure out what # we are in California. I'm finding posts all over the board, some in the West Coast forum and some in the main discussion group. But the important thing is we have the car and it is a total kick to drive! I gotta tell you, the husband was so excited about this car he was looking at Japanese websites with numerous videos all with the same footage at Laguna Seca. I really enjoyed the botched translations and hope to enjoy the "Athletic Tension" in our fine vehicle.

Congrats Madhaus!
I work close to that Maxda dealer and saw your car when it was being prepped on Wednesday. It was sitting all by its lonesome in the prep area with the keys sitting on the roof. I was tempted to jump in and start it up, but I resisted.
Oak Tree (which is a Kevan Del Grande dealership) has a larger shipment because they committed to sell additional Mazda cars (non-RX-8). I saw every color there on Thursday, except the green. The Winning Blue is super color. Apparently Blue and silver are the most requested colors. I also think the mica red is very nice. I was disappointed by how drab the Titanium looked, but maybe it was because it wasn't prepped yet (it was still pretty dirty when I saw it).
BTW, some of their sales appeared to be poorly trained on the car. I talked to Ron Murry at the dealer and he was the most informative and friendly guy I met (who was in sales).
I need to see the green before I decide which color to order. (I know, I'm a laggard, but I'm waiting for my wife to employed again before making a big financial commitment. Beside, my Miata is still fun to drive as well.)
