I am moving to Oahu in a few months and a had a few quick questions about vehicle registration/inspection/transportation.

1 - Transportation,
Have any of you had your vehicles transported out to the island? If so... do you know of any good transportation companies?

2 - Registration and Inspection,
I am sure I will need to get new registration and inspection upon arrival, yes? For the inspection, is there an emissions test? My car runs pig rich because of the turbo, and also throws a CEL because of that... so if there is an emissions test during the inspection, i'm pretty much f'd. The lack of a cat also does not help.
I was considering an O2 sim, and creating a second and much leaner map to get it to become emissions friendly... also purchasing a cat, and installing it for the inspection. In which case, what AFR should i shoot for, in order to get it legal?

Also, how much is registration and inspection?

you can ship your 8 through Matson, it's about $800-900 iirc from the west coast, i'm not sure what it would cost you from the gulf, though my friend shipped his 4Runner through Mississippi after his station in Minot, i could ask if you like...

the second Q i'm not sure of...but you will need a safety inspection (a visual once over plus checking lights, signals, etc) and maybe a recon. permit for all your mods (not entirely sure of this one either, went into effect while i was off in college). have you checked the HI DMV site yet?

 

I planned on driving to CA before shipping the car out, so that sounds like it can work. I'll look up the company and get some quotes soon.

I checked the HI DMV site, but it wasn't very helpful. If its just a safety inspection... i should be ok. I guess i'll give them a call later this week and find out.
I looked up the recon information, and all my mods are fine except the clear corners and no front plate.. both of which i can fix in just a few minutes. I don't remember seeing anything on their about the cat or emissions, but i'll check again.
