Reputable place for major engine work.

So people may remember me from a while back, I was the first person to get their 8 ported, then bridgeported by Dave (RIP). Well I'm at a point now that I need to get my car smogged and sold, so the current state of the car won't do. So I need a shop that I can get my car torn apart and have stock housings put on it. At that point I'd probably give away my bridged ones for little or no money if someone wants em. But for now I need this done. I did my browsing around on the forums and people say good things about mazdatrix and rotary racing. But I live in the 909 so that is quite a drive. Any information would be much appreciated, and if you have questions about my car now just hit me up.

Thanks,

-Richard

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by a mobile tech Charles lol. So feel free to elaborate on that.

I called two places today and they told me effectively that it's a waste of money to fix it. Because it'd cost like 2200 in parts and another grand and a half in labor, and by then I can buy a new engine. So that kinda blows, I'm thinking about maybe buying a new one and selling the one I have, I'm sure someone wants the bridgeported engine. I don't know why I didn't know that it would cost this much but I don't have that sort of money, I got children to feed!

It's not like I don't like the car or anything. I've driven it bridgeported for 40k and it hasn't broken down once, but I have to get it smogged. I bought the car in full when I was 17 so it was in my mom's name. She decided to transfer ownership and voila I can't get around not having a smog.

So to recap these are my options:
1. Drive around without registration (I've already been towed once).
2. Pay 4-5k to get it fixed, and maybe get back 2k of that by selling my engine. So total paying 2-3k (this is not an option).
3. Move to another state and sell my car there (sounds like fun, truly).

I sincerely hope that someone can give me other options.

By far the BEST place I've seen in SoCal is Neptune Speed in Huntington Beach. I've been to Fast Freddie's and they're good but the guys are Neptune speed are TOP NOTCH.

They've already done a few rebuilds on RX-8's.

Having Ray fly in and do the work is also a great option. To say he knows his stuff would be an understatement.

Gazo at J&G Automotive in La Crescenta (20min north of LA)

Known for amazing work at a great price, give them a call. They recently had nationally renowned rotary tuner Steve Khan in for a bunch of rx7s. Word is he's developing an rx8 tune :O

the site is in its baby phase but gives all important info - http://jandgautomotive.net/

Thanks everyone for the feedback! As far as the emission requirements for California, Dave said that my car would for sure not pass smog. I'm not sure why specifically, i may try and get it smogged to see. First thing I need to pick up is a new cat, because we bored that out in addition to the porting work. After I get that, which I hope to do soon, I'll get it smogged and see what happens I suppose.

Does that seem like the right course of action, and if I do fail the smog Charles, what would be the next step from there?

I forgot to mention Charles, but I have a piggyback ecu unit so I should be able to monitor the a/f ratio. "Should" being the imperative word, I've never done it myself, Dave did all that for me. I have all the hook ups and cd's so I should be able to.

But anyways, I'll get the cat thing taken care of and then go from there, right? That destroys any chance by itself.
