This is definitely missing in the Bay Area... A group of hard core enthusiasts with tech days, drives (no wine & cheese drive for me thanks), racing (track + AX days) and a good car knowledge we can all share...

Currently I am a member (have been for 5 years or so) of an "underground Miata club" where all we talk is cars, FI, suspension, tech days, drives and a monthly lunch where we just talk about our cars... I still go there since I have not been able to find a club like that...

Heck even the Miata.net forum is full of people with knowdledge where a lot of other car forums, including this one, have lots to learn.

Anyways, I am game... in San Jose area.

Speak for yourself. :p I've volunteered my garage and expertise to help people install shocks, body kits, etc, invited people to join me for karting or autocross events (no one's ever shown up) and made DIY pages to share how-to info with people who don't live nearby.

Funny, I knew you will reply to this. I have seen your posts and even invitations to AX. This is good. There is a lack of knowledgeable people in rotaries around. I did everything myself, I mean everything in my Turbo Miata but the rotary... well let's say that I still need to educate myself about it.

I wish NASA was back with AX since I don't really like the SCCA format and on top of that you need to pay the anual fee.

Anyways, I can be down for an early morning drive (Saturday or so) through HWY-9 (Los Gatos - Santa Cruz), lunch around Milpitas area, and tech days or even tech nights. How about starting our own RX8-List in one of the yahoo groups?

Good stuff...

I think there is already a rx8 bay area yahoo group. Nobody has posted in the last 6 months though, that I know of.

We tried reviving the monthly D&B meets, but it just never caught on I guess. Now that there are more Bay Area members, maybe we can give it another go? I heard talk about moving it to another location so it would be closer to other members. Maybe a Fremont/Pleasanton/Concord meet? Whatever works best for everyone.

I mentioned this previously, but basic meet and greets get old if all you're doing is saying hi and scoping out what other people have. It was fun the first couple times when RX-8s were still relatively new but you gotta have something else to grab people's attention. The BBQ was a good idea. Group karting would be fun and I still maintain if you're going to have a meet and greet why not do it at an autocross event? It's free and open to the public to watch, most drivers will let you ride shotgun on the course if you ask and you can always kibittz about what the drivers are doing.

I've even volunteered to give driving technique lessons, but like the lack of autocross interest it seems most people like the idea of a sporty car but don't take it much further.

True, true. Well, hmmm, maybe we can all meet up at a park, have a BBQ/potluck kind of thing if you're all willing to do that. I live in Union city, so maybe we all can get dinner at union landing or wherever you guys want to have lunch/dinner. I mean, this is really an open ended meet, so we all can brainstorm and everything then do it when its all set up.

I am into track days with NASA and TeamRacing-Miata where we have track days at Thill , Sears and even Laguna Seca.

Track days are the best bang for the buck... Let's face it, I don't like going to a AX just to watch. What is the fun of that? You pay $30.00 for 4 minutes while a track day you pay ~$200.00 for 2+ hours!

I love AX but I don't like what SCCA has done to it. (even Grassroots Magazine shares my feeling about this)

I bought the RX8 because of a track day when my student had the RX8... Within 2 laps I "felt at home"

Whoever is up for a "southern area meet" (Milpitas, San Jose, Fremont) PM me so we can perhaps go for "spirited drives".

Next track event with Team-Racing is a 2 day event Nov 24-26

Open for tech days as well...

Weekends :D

We had a weekly meet with RX-7s in San Jose on Wednesday nights. Now, it has moved to Milpitas, and I haven't gone for 2 weeks. As far as tech days go, let's have a list of what people would like to learn (hands-on or demo type). I went to PUR NRG's suspension install tech day last year. We did Murix's RB suspension kit. It really helped me learn the proper steps. I still have my S-Tech's sitting in the garage and never found the time to install it. I'm ready to volunteer as the lab rat for an S-tech installation tech day.

I try to go to as many of the meets, drives, open houses etc that I can. I'll come to just about anything that anyone sets up if I'm available and there are other 8's showing up. I'm even going to sevenstock this year.

There is a yahoo group and as mentioned nobody has posted. We have done numerous little meets but after you take some pictures and talk for awhile there's not much else to do. It's nice to meet new people when they show up.

It seems like there was a good amount of interest in the BBQ last month. Then the prostreet thing kinda confused the situation. If we want to try it again we'll need to do it soon since summer is quickly fading.

I know some people (Pur NRG- sorry only person I can think of, I don't even think I've met you) don't think group drives are good because people tend to drive like maniacs or something like that, but I like the drives. I just don't have any good ideas of good drives on nice roads without too much traffic. I like HWY 9 but there always seems to be someone driving too slowly on there.

The autocross meet is a good idea. I'm not really into the karting thing, I guess I would be willing to try it or at least watch.
