RX-8 Cop Magnet Not Chick Magnet !!!
My Winning Blue is by no means a "Chick Magnet," rather a cop magnet. I have had my car for 2 years, and has been pulled over 5 times. Previously, I drove a 1991 Toyota Celica GTS, and had been pulled over only once for not completing a ful stop at a stop sign.
The first year of ownership:
1)Ticket for allegedly tailgating on S-880 near Brokaw (930am morning traffic) He followed me for 3 miles, and finally pulled me over for this. The cop said I need to have 5-6 car-lengths in front of me which is impossible during this time.
Won the case via "Trial by Mail"
2)Ticket for allegedly speeding on N-880 near Diixon Landing (1230am) The lady cop accused me of driving 80 in a 65. I was driving maximun 70mph in the middle lane, and there were cars passing me.
Loss the case via "Trial by Mail"
3)Ticket for allegedly speeding on N-101 near San Mateo (10am morning traffic) The cop said I was going 80 in a 65. I was doing 70 maximun and going with the flow of traffic.
Went to Traffic school
Second year of ownership:
In March, got pulled over right after the Deanza exit on the N-85 (130am) Cop said I didn't obey a safety sign. Turns out there was a small sign behind some trees that don't allow a right turn on a red light. I stopped at the light for a very long time , checked both directions, and there were no cars for miles. Gave the cop the utmost respect and cooperation. Cop couldn't give a break eventhough I had just gotten off working late, no cars for miles, and on the way to pick up my girlfriend.
Trail By Mail still pending.
Yesturday, got pulled over near the N-880 Dixon Landing exit again (1230am early morning) I have had the cruise-control set at 70mph since I have been very cautious of cops since the last ticket I received in March. I had just gotten off work since I worked the night shift. I had a long day at work, and was in a bad mood. Needless to say, as I was travely on the middle lane(again the cruise-control was set to 70mph) the CHP cop had just entered the freeway and was about a quarter mile back. Suddenly, they sped up like a bat out of hell when they saw my car directly ahead, and tail-gated me for about a minute, and flashed their lights to pulled over. At this point, I was shocked, as again, I had the cruise set to 70mph with the 5mph cushion that everybody does.
The cop comes over and charges me with speeding 85 in a 65. I was outraged, as that was total b.s. I ask about some sort of evidence to back up their claims. He couldn't give me a definitive explanation. All he could come up was that as they entered the freeway, they could see that my car was traveling away from them, and they had to catch up. I said thats because you were going 60 onto the freeway!!! I also told them my Cruise was set to 70MPH!!! This was the most B.S. I have ever heard from anybody, so I was pissed, and argued with the cop. His partners comes over as well, and starts looking around the car to see if they can come up with some more fines. When they were done, I got fined for the speeding, window tinting, and no front license plates. I told the cop I'll see him in court, and thanks for wasting my time. He replied "Thats a nice car by the way" and left.
What fucken ********. I understand people should respect authority, but when authorities are fucken power-hungry ********, they don't deserve any. I'm just fed up with this B.S. treatment just because I drive a nice car. It looks like cops/CHP have nothing else better to do around the Milpitas area especially. Whenever I drive my car now, I'm driving paranoid, since it doesn't really matter if I'm driving the speed limit or not. Like I said before, with my old celica, only one ticket in 7 years of driving. In the RX-8, 5 in only two years!!!
Does any of you guys have similar experiences???

Sorry dude. Don't get me started on cops, I hate them. I've been pulled over 4 times in my 8, and have gotten one ticket. I just wish cops would do something productive rather than write bull **** tickets. I see it all the time, cops writing tickets for victimless crimes, i.e. window tint; at the same time they could be doing much more productive things for our society.

BTW- what the hell do we expect them do to anymore? Now that the red light cameras are in place, they are forced to write these fucked up tickets otherwise they'd do nothing. God forbid they do something for humanity, that'd mean they have to work.
Either way, as far as I'm concerned, they're all ********.

just dont do anything stupid when a cop is near. I've only been pulled over when those sneeky bastards catch me while i'm blatantly speeding!
there is already a thread covering this topic in the discussion forum.

in san francisco, i'm doing 31 on local 25 zone, he saw me in the opposite direction and U-turn. I asked if he used a speed gun , he acts like he didn't hear me, wrote me a 42 in a 25mph zone. no plate, and i lost , i was charged $750 for 17mph over the limite while everyone is doing 40 and 50, he picked on me from a opposite direction.

Bright colors suck. I had a red car before my black 8 and let me tell you I got pulled over so many times for BS that I lost my license for a year.
With my black 8, the cops don't look at me twice and I'm in Orange County where they have nothing to do but write bogus tickets.

Yea bright colors do suck. the bright colors are the cop magnets. I drive a silver so I have not been pulled over often. Got one ticket for speeding when there was this one car tailgating me and I was trying to switch out of the far left lane. marked me 85 in a 65... I was about 80 not a big difference. But my friend in a red rsx got ticketed for 65 in a 45 zone, when he was actually doing 55. Cop saw him from the opposite direction and U-turned. I have no idea how he handled the situation.

I've been pulled over 3 times with my titanium (speeding all 3 times) and gotten off with warnings. The cops were nice each time. In my old '86 accord I never got a warning...always tickets. Go figure, eh.

My opinion is if it's not revenue generaterating or media worthy they could care less. They have time to hold me on the side of the road for 45minutes while trying to figure out what to make up a ticket for since I'm not drunk or speeding but "We don't have the resourses..." to chase a guy down who pulled a gun on me on the freeway, didn't do anything to the guy that ran over my brother twice while on his motorcycle despite wittness testimony and now I've been trying for over a month to get this damn cop to enter his police report to get my bumper fixed after some lady hit my car and took off. Have witnesses, plate #, description of driver, insurance info of driver etc. Her insurance company won't do anything till they get a police report or confession from the driver. Well she is now on extended stay in Mexico with no contact info according to her husband. Thanks for letting me vent. lol Man I really wish I had a choice as to were my taxes went cause as long as I'm forced to protect myself I would be better off buying better guns and some training then supporting these a**holes. Man I wish I could share a job with you guys if you knew what the PHX police said on this interview tape you would shot yourself in the head before calling for help ever again.

THIS is why I love my Nordic Green 8. Some people have made derogatory remarks about Nordic Green, but I have ZERO pull-overs and ZERO tickets (so far... ) Let's hope my luck holds out.
Cheers!

KING, my window tint is 35% in the front and 20% on the rear back windows.
I work damn hard to earn money to help feed my family, and feel violated by these ******** cops who charges for these BS tickets.
Its sickening that we live in such a unfair world, and have to contribute to the FACS (fucken ******* cops) Charity Fund. I'm a hard-working, law-abiding citizen that pay taxes to suppot police harrassment? Are you kidding me?....I feel like throwing up now.

I have had a couple of cops look at my car, I think they liked it. I haven't had any trouble with tickets though... knock on wood. I have a black 8 also have a radar detector (out of sight) that has helped me be more aware when they are around on the freeway(saved my *** numerous times). I've had a couple cops check my speed but when I know they are around I do not speed, normally not even 5 over.
Not to cause an argument but the cops can write you for 1 mile over the speed limit. The 5 mile thing isn't a guarantee or anything. From what I've heard they think if you have a radar detector you are purposely speeding, why else would you have it? I've found that by "liking" the police they leave me alone. I acknowledge them by going the speed limit and getting out from in front of them. If they are or seem to be trying to get somewhere I will speed up to allow them to get by me. I haven't been pulled over for doing that. I used to have gift certificates for krispy kreme in the glove box of my old car as a JOKE (if I ever got pulled over by a cool cop), but I never got the chance to do that. :D

man that really sucks! Maybe your car is cursed? The only one i would be really really really really pissed off about is your most recent one when your cruise was set to 70. I would go nuts!

I got two speeding tickets already withing the first 6 months of ownership, one form Oakland and one from Marin county coming onto the GG bridge. I would say it is about the color of the car just like NGORx8 stated, I have a black RX so other than nothing. I used to own RED cars which got me pulled over all the time for the stupidest things. Also a blue Civic also got pulled over all the friggin time.

Yep. I was blatantly picked on because of the 8. I've had my license for 7 years and 2 of those were in the loudest mustang ever, however, the 8 really attracts attention (good and bad).
Full story
Full story
With my cruise control set to 75mph (speed limit was 65mph, but I was going with the flow of traffic) we were on our way back to Pittsburgh. As I peaked on of Ohios hills (in Pittsburgh we would refer to them as speed bumps) my cousin pointed out that there was a cop on the side of the road. However, I was not worried at all because I was in the middle lane at the back of a pretty large pack of cars all motoring along at the same speed. As luck would have it the cop decided to put on his tough-guy hat and proceeded to tailgate me. With a mirror full of overweight mountie I decided to pull into the slow lane to let him pass. Since he was already basically in my trunk and drafting like he was an extra from Days of Thunder he followed me over. About 2 minutes later the melodic sirens filled the air and I was being pulled over. The officer slowly waddled towards my car and asked for my license and registration. Providing both of those as well as my change of address form (I moved after I received my license) he proceeded to tell me that he "lasered" me at 81 in a 65 mph zone and then went back to his car.
After about 10 minutes he returned to tell me that he is issuing me a citation for speeding. Befuddled with how he could have nabbed me for doing 81 I asked him. He said that he "lasered" me 3 times in the far left lane. Newsflash occifer: I was in the middle lane when you saw me. When I asked to see the laser the officer became agitated with me. Plain and simple: He was a liar. My speeding ticket has so many errors in it that I could not help but feel sorry for him. First, he put the address on my license down when I gave him a change of address form. Secondly, my car is a 4 door. Not a 2 door. I do have to give him a break there though, after all, 4 is a much harder number to count to than 2. Thirdly, he said that he spotted my violation when he was stationary. However, stationary and moving into traffic are 2 different things in my book. Lastly he noted that I was in the far left lane. Again, I was in the center lane of traffic when he pulled out. I dont know about you, but I will sleep a little sounder tonight knowing that he is not protecting and serving my neighborhood.

I suspect there are many factors. In the 2 or so years since I got the 8, I have gotten more tickets in the Durango (2) than the 8. I just put my plates on yesterday, so I expected a ticket long before now. One place I frequent is right next to a Starbucks, so lots of cops have seen my car.
When I was younger, I averaged a speeding ticket every 6 months or so. Silver 7 or dark blue 7 convertable. Now, I don't get tickets.
Once in San Diego with my first gen 7, I got pulled over by a CHP by Poway for doing 80+. I gave him the keys and let him drive it. He took it up to about 100. No ticket after that .
I got a ticket once for no front plate, the reason given was legit. Driving the flow of traffic and getting a ticket (original poster) doesn't make sense, and I have never seen a cop give a ticket in those circumstances (not to say it didn't happen).
Also, remember, cops are people too. The last person they pulled over may have copped an attitude with them, and they are taking it out on you.

Well, for once, it helps to live in a crime-infested city where speeding is the least of the po-po's worries!
I'm always zoom zooming, even late at night where my 8 is one of the few cars on the freeways, and I've avoided the sirens so far <knock on wood>.

In youre first post u said u got a ticket for the dark tint in ur windows, well heres what i did, i went to my eye dr. and told him i had sentative eyes and coulnt wear sunglasses because it gives me a headache. He knew i was bullshiting him so he right away klnew what i wanted.. so he wrote a note and got it apprived by the city that states that i cannot wear sunglasses and must have a heavy tint on my windows... so no ticket there... but the front plate thing.... ur stuck... besides cops here in Tracy are very lazy and dont give ma damn.

I've been pulled over three times in the two years I've had the 8. Somehow I've managed to avoid either getting a ticket at all or having to pay the fine each time. Each time was for a fairly trifling "offense."
I used to speed much more in my previous car, Honda Accord. I got pulled over once the three years I had an Accord. There's nothing anyone can say that will convince me the cops don't take special notice of the RX-8. At least the ones around here do.
