rx8, might as well own a lamborghini.. MPGS!!

I only live 2 miles from work. I could easily ride a bike every day to and from work, just letting the 8 sit in the driveway for the weekends.
But......it's so much fun to drive the 8, that it would be a crime to not take it out every day.

I have a 2005 rx8, 6-speed manual transmission.
I purchased it with 14,400 miles I put over 1k as I'm at 15,500.
I love the car it handles well, its fast.
Its very smooth even though I feel all the bumps on the road.
I'm dissapointed in the tire size though. 225. ?? :|
I been avaragin 200-240 miles to the tank which puts me at 15-17 mpg.
I do a lot of city driving, and a lkot of freeway driving as well.
I cruise the canyon abouut 2-4 nights a week.
I checked the oil levels, they were low so I'm going to do that 2morrow first thing in the morning, I'm sure that will
Help with the mpgs. I might also do a tune up to have it running crisp.
It handles great on corners, but it does have body roll; without traction control its too tail happy on corners, and with traction control it tends to understeer A LOT.
I hit mt wilson with it and my gosh did this car perform extremely well, even though the brakes got soft after a while.
Still I'm not used to a car this fast so I'm careful and try to keep speeds low at the canyons, I come from an mr2 and even though it was slow, in the canyons that car excelled. Even above my friends s2000.
One of the first things I def. Want to do to it is drop it on a great suspension and get some wider tires.
I was thinking of going single exhaust when I upgrade it, but idk if that would help the car besides loosing some weight.
I'm here @ the market right now looking for oil, I hear you have to use only non synthetic 5w 20, and change it often, 2000k miles I was told!
A guy who owns one that I bumped into also said that the engine will flood, no doubt. Hmm another friend I know with an rx says to always warm it up, and to drive it at high rpms every now and then. Kool!!!

my 3rd tank with lots of 5000rpm shifting, 15.5mpg. down from 17.5mpg when I had most shifting at 4000rpm.
I checked my oil after 3 tanks of gas, my oil level still seem to be good.
I bought the 8 knowing it sucks on mileage (was expecting 14mpg). But it does better than I thought it would be.

Power!!
I suspect you're doing it wrong.
Also why are you disappointed in your tire size? What did they ever do to you? What is the best size tire for our car?

Return trip today with a 10 mph headwind and equally conservative driving gave me less than 21 mpg (down from the previous posting of 24). Looks like wind resistance takes a toll.

I watched a Gallardo LP560 fill up yesterday and I was glad I don't have to deal with that! That being said, averaging 15mpg (read: 13 gal tank<200mi) is rather annoying with my limited funds. Im currently sitting on 181mi since my last fillup, and dreading that little orange light coming on..

Did anyone here own a RX-7 before the 8???
My 82,84,and 89 all got less than 20 mpg in the city. On the hwy they averaged 21-25 mpg with alot less HP.
To me it is about normal, HP is fuel and air.

you went from a 2.2L 4 cylinder with about 130hp to a 1.3L that pushes out 235HP. How do you think it makes the HP? I know it's a new car and you are getting used to it, but you can't compare your cars, at all.... Every thread you posted so far, you are making these comparisons. Complaining and venting to these forums isn't going to change it.

on the freeway with cruise control on set at 82mph, i got 312 out of full tank.
on the same stretch of freeway with cruise set at 78mph, i got 322 full tank. i still think the mileage is whorable, but i guess it isnt as bad as most of you are getting. i just looked on the dealer window tag, and it says most drivers will estimate 18-24 mpg. so i guess it has the potential to get good mileage. but with a 15.9 gal tank that puts me right up around 20.25mpg.
i went on the same stretch in a honda, and we didnt get gas till we got to Long beach 412 miles away from my doorstep.
definitely wish i had some mileage like that for the trips, but cant have it all.
