people that I have to look in the face and tell them that they've lost their life savings because they didn't have sufficient FDIC coverage.
I already had one guy flip out and go crazy. guards quickly threw him out of the building.
what's to stop one of these guys from coming into the bank with a gun?

Sounds like it was their fault.
It does suck to be the one to deliver bad news. I feel for ya there. I am sure this is not the most fun part of your job.
So did you have to fire people too? If you had to fire people, and now you have to deal with giving the customers bad news, I feel like I should be buying you a stiff drink or something.

Customers should be making sure they are covering themselves. But, the bank is ENTRUSTED with their customers' money- are they not?
You don't deposit money in a reputable bank with the PRESUMPTION that they're going to squander or lose it- unless you are investing it in risky stocks or things that have inherit risk to begin with.
Therefore, imo, the bank shoulders the responsibility, as well as the FDIC for failing to oversee them before **** hit the fan. The bank's investment officers/ managers **** up, and then tell their customers- oops, sorry their savings is gone. The bank doesn't face any consequences or jail time. But, the customers lose their money. How is that fair?
To us ordinary joes, maintaining accounts larger than $100K seems pointless. But, there are many medium businesses and small businesses that need accounts larger than $100K to maintain their cash flow and business.
I don't have any money in Indy Mac, but I feel for their customers. It's lose lose for everyone.

P.S. Yes, and it also sucks for our good friend Jorge and the thousands of Indy Mac employees- who are also victims in this debacle. They didn't cause the bank to fail- the investment officers and governing board of the bank did. But, it's the employees who suffer consequences with the customers.

i rode in an evo x at the 626 meet a couple weeks ago. that thing pulls like mad- even with driver + 3 passengers in the car. i think it's aluminum body.
anyhow. it's a bit pricey- $35K+ otd. but, a great performance sedan. it looks much better in person than in the photos for some reason.

sorry to hear the banking news Jorge....I got the news when I was helping Ghost swap our his clutch and flywheel. He got a text from some friends who work and were relieved of their positions.
It definately is an interesting time......gonna be a hard position to come into as the first black president (if that happens).....would suck to leave a lasting negative legacy...having to try and overcome what the current monkey has left for him.

The Pres really doesnt have that much power.
They can not make changes, only suggest them or veto them.
The President kinda just steers the ship in the general direction he/she wants it to go. And as long as the tide (legislative branch) and the wind (judicial branch) are all woking in its favor, the ship goes where he wants it to.
But when was the last time you had the wind AND tides in your favor while at the helm?

the more things change
if people won't to make sure they're money is safe they should
keep it at home like i use to. anyone that puts their money in a
bank should be aware of the risk. thats why i kept mine at home for
so long, but i am full aware of what could happen with my money in any
bank. yes you want to trust them to keep it safe for you, but banks don't
make money by babysitting our money. for good or bad it most be invested
bank employees have to be paid, the money we deposit just won't do it.

correct.
yes, we are. They trust us to hang onto their money while we reward them handsomely with some of the best rates available.
.
who said anything about squandering money?! IMB did not fail because the money was mismanaged. There has been NO corruption or mismanagment of funds here. If that's what you're looking for, might I suggest you go talk to Angelo Mozillo @ Countrywide. (now BofA)
no, we do NOT shoulder the responsibility of making sure customer's funds are insured. Does your car insurance make sure you don't speed? Does your doctor hold your hand and make sure you take your vitamins every day?! No. We have a responsibility to address FDIC with our clients but if they choose to not listen, that is THEIR decision. 96% of IMB's deposits are Federally Insured. Go look at National averages and you'll see that we are EASILY 15-20% above the National Average. (that's BILLIONS of $$$ we're talking about.
the FDIC does not oversee banks. They are an insurance corporation, not a regulatory body.
wrong AGAIN. The President of IMB is currently with the company. He has been retained by our new CEO which happens to be the COO of the FDIC. Do you think he'd be here if the OTS (Office of Thrift Supervision) suspected foul play?
our CEO Michael Perry has not sold ONE SINGLE SHARE of company stock in over 4 years. Look it up, it's public knowledge. He invested 95% of his personal wealth in this company and has lost more then ANYONE. His stock alone has cost him over $30 Million in the last 2 years. He could have sold at any time but he didn't; he continued buying stock as recently as just a few months ago.
No business account in the COUNTRY will EVER have more then $100,000 in FDIC coverage. Those are the FDIC guidelines. I don't care if you're Microsoft of the mom & pops dry cleaners down the street.

do me a favor and the next time you walk into a bank, go up to the teller line and you'll see an FDIC plaque. Look at the writing on it.
"Each depositor insured to at least $100,000" $100k is your STARTING point. I closed out ONE account yesterday with a balance of $1,400,000 of which ALL of it was insured by the FDIC.
www.fdic.gov is your new friend.
Multiple signers can give additional coverage. Example: Husband + wife are on an account together. If they also have their 3 children as beneficieries, that account is Federally insured for $600,000. One account, $600k in coverage. No need to open multiple accounts...
Casey was close though. Silver star for you.
