Well the gauges are there for safety. Just glance at it as often as you glance at your gas. Learn how it behaves, and if your turbo starts feeling different, or your car's personality changes, check your boost gauge immediately and see if its where it should be at.

Doesn't boosting RX-8s provide very little power due to your side exhaust ports?

i think when it's done "correctly" it actually adds quite a bit of torque and HP, though this comes at the expense of MPG and some degree of questionable long term engine reliability. a couple of forum members here have had very good success going turbo. but, overall, i think more ppl have had blown engines than success- due to them not doing things right and perhaps being a bit greedy on the realistic amount of boost they should've been going for.

see thats what i'm talking about, i don't want to do that xtra
looking just to make sure the kit i just spent 7 grand on
does not blow my engine to hell.
if i spend that much the thing should be darn perfect,
like factory installed turbos just drive it and love it.

yah, besides the cost, u also have to decide if getting even worse MPG and questionable long term reliability are worth the risk. to some ppl it's worth it, to some ppl it's not worth it.

I fully agree with you, I feel the same way.

He probably should have at least a boost gauge.

The extra wear and tear on my engine is not worth it to me. If it weren't on my daily driver I would take the time to consider it.

It all comes down to cost, cost, cost....cost of the kit, cost of the maintenance, and cost to your engine. It was not worth it for me...I quickly got the idea of the fast and furious blow off valve sound when the Greddy kit initially came out and no shops in the area (including rotary only shops) were willing to do it for less than $3000 (plus the kit). No thanks.

Detrich....you are smart to stay stock.

All I can say on this is I have modified every vehicle I have ever owned, and that the 8 was the first ever car I tried to do performance mods to. All I can truely say is money wasted. I should have stayed just with the appearance stuff. Now, I have to say I learned so much more about cars in the process, and I am grateful for the knowledge, but it really did nothing for the car....and who knows if it contributed to the small problems I had with the car...who knows.
