In the Miller cycle the intake valve is left open longer than it normally would be. This is the "fifth" cycle that the Miller cycle introduces. As the piston moves back up in what is normally the compression stroke, the charge is being pushed back out the normally closed valve. Typically this would lead to losing some of the needed charge, but in the Miller cycle the piston in fact is over-fed with charge from a supercharger, so blowing a bit back out is entirely planned. The supercharger typically will need to be of the positive displacement kind (due its ability to produce boost at relatively low RPM) otherwise low-rpm torque will suffer.
The key is that the valve only closes, and compression stroke actually starts, only when the piston has pushed out this "extra" charge, say 20 to 30% of the overall motion of the piston. In other words the compression stroke is only 70 to 80% as long as the physical motion of the piston. The piston gets all the compression for 70% of the work.

In a typical Spark Ignition Engine however the miller cycle yields another benefit. Compression of air by the supercharger and cooled by an intercooler will yield a lower intake charge temperature than that obtained by a higher compression. This allows ignition timing to be altered to beyond what is normally allowed before the onset of detonation, thus increasing the overall efficiency still further.
The Miller Cycle engine joins Mazda's Rotary engine as one of only a few unconventional engine designs used in modern cars. The Wankel Designed Rotary engine was first put into Mazda products in the sixty's and has found a great market with the high performance cars like the RX-7 and Rx-8.

any specifics on where the cuts will be? Remember: the closer you are to the customer, the safer your job usually is.
When we were cutting jobs left and right (in an attempt to salvage the company), we started with "non-revenue producing" positions first. ie; Marketing, HR, etc.

bank buyouts like crazy lately...Wamu, Wachovia was just bought out yesterday......the idea behind Bush's buyout seem crazy, but then again, I think he was a special education student and that he is slightly tarded. But, then again, that is just my professional opinion given my work experience.
Look at his previous stimulous idea...those stimulous checks he sent out to everyone. (oh, and by the way....never got mine). Been listening to a lot of talk radio right now....maybe what we need right now is a slap in the face, rather than a slap on the wrist and a bailout.
I feel people need a slap.....and that they need to be more responsible. Heck, I had to make some huge sacrifices lately with respect to car ownership, and it sucks....but others have not made the same and are just extending their open hand for a handout.
Borak (looks too much like Borat in my mind) Obama (looks too much like Osama in my mind) may be the perfect leader for our nation.
Back to normal car talk.

ici was a global company when it was purchsed, so it could be
in other country's where it will happen. although we did closed
down four of our local stores, rumor has it that there may be more.
my store was in the top five in our district for profit. so unless
santa monica gets wiped off the map i think i will be safe..

chimp bankrupted every single company he ran in the private sector... why would any of us think he wouldn't bankrupt the u.s. gov't?
i don't think things will turn around until there is (a) enforceable corporate responsibility- ie no more ceo's with stupid golden parachute bail-out packages and (b) sound gov't regulation/ oversight (c) people start making better investment decisions and live within their means instead of being greedy and over-stretching their budgets- be it homes, stocks, bonds, or cheese puffs.

Definitely going. Especially when I threw in the "Vegas" part on day 3.
I order one also, but I got the 5100.
I ordered mine a couple of days after you.
Mine shipped on 9/26 but it's going DHL ground. Left Ohio on the 28th.
