well, he said the wheels are in perfect order. so, the next question is to decide yea/ nea and if so how to close. do u guys normally do pay pal on club forum transactions, or what do u guys usually do?
liyan thinks i should hold off until i can bargain down the price a bit, since once the market is flooded with 2009+ rx-8s those wheels wont' be as "unique."

Loren has a good memory! I'll show you guys teaser pics as soon as the stuff arrives, coming from Japan so could take some time.
detrich: damn, didn't realize he was keeping the tires. No worries, just have a tire shop dismount your current tires, put the TPMS on the new wheels, and move the tires over. It'll cost you about $100 or so for a tire shop to do it. America's tire company usually offeres lifetime balancing / rotating as well for a little bit more.
I say do it! I know you've liked those wheels for some time, you always take such meticulous car of your car, it'll be nice to have something new on there that you know will last you a while.
Lets just hope the wheels are in good shape.

The seller is dreaming, and trying to offset the price of his new wheels onto you. You can expect to pay 500 to get a pristine set of your current wheels. I'd give it 8 months before you see the market flooded with the series 2 wheels, and the price will go down dramatically.
And for 1100, you have many aftermarket options to choose from too, that would be similar to the wheel you are looking at.
IF you need reference points....look at how much I was able to get on the Enkei RPF1 wheels, the best wheel out there for the 8. I sold 2 sets of these and wasnt able to get really what they were worth, and they were for wheels that were in the highest demand for the 8. Look at how much Loren is trying to sell his Volks for, and how long he has been trying to find a buyer at that price (which is an awsome price)...just not enough buyers out there with actual cash.
And to answer your other question, I've used Paypal on all the transactions I've had. I would recommend doing a search in the good guy/ bad guy forum to see if your seller appears there at all. If you can see them in person, to check out the wheels up close (and alos avoid shipping charges)..would be the ideal situation.

I've had only one bad transaction on the RX8 forum, used paypal, but then found out you have no protections with Paypal and anyone from Canada...? I tried to dispute the payment when I received the parts from the guy and they were shipped improperly and they were damaged. I had no course of action, so will no longer do anything with the damn Canadians.

I agree that $1100 is a bit too much for a stock wheel. as Keith said, give it a little more time and you will find a lot more on the market driving prices down.
also keep in mind you should be abel to sell YOUR stock wheels for a good $400 or so. Autcross people love them. they make great track wheels for race tires.

I only got $1100 for the Enkei wheels...no way these stock wheels are worth that much. I guess though, they are worth how ever much someone is willing to pay for them. As with everything though, used, is never worth as much as you originally pay for them...regardles of how much care you take.
Detrich, take a couple moments just to go through the Tirerack website and see what types of wheels you can pick up for the same price (250 per wheel).
http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/resul...5&autoModClar=
Utlimately, wheels are a personal decision, each one of us is going to give you advice on what wheels to consider...but these would be wheels we would want...and personal taste rules the day. If you are set on those wheels spefically, then I would still recommend waiting...keep checking ebay, maybe even speak with a shop that does a lot of rims sales....cause often, people dont keep the stock wheels they take off and shops will offer them money, because the shop then sales them. You may be able to get a set for much cheaper than 1100 that way.
Wheel Warehouse may be a source to consult for this....or the Discount Tire I bought my Volks through...they do tons of business and have lots of take offs.

As far as protecting yourself on the purchase, the safest way is to pay a little
extra for the transaction, and pay the buyer to list them on ebay as a buy it now transaction.
If the seller has a paypal account, and they are in the US, there is no cap on how much your buyer protection is.
If you don't use ebay, you can still have the buyer send you an invoice through paypal, with a detailed description.
Then when you pay w/ paypal, you have some protection. Just make sure your shipping is tracked/insured.
As far as the price...
Since when does a Mac-guy worry about spending too much for a unique product?
I don't know a thing about rims, so I have no idea how much overpriced these are, but I do know
there is something to be said for getting a product earlier, and enjoying the fact that you have it.
Take for instance, my incredibly, long awaited carpc build.
4years ago when I wanted it, I decided it was way too expensive a project, so I didn't do it.
Now I have it, and saved about $700 by waiting.
If I had to do it all over again, I would have purchased everything 4years ago, and enjoyed having it longer.
So if you don't mind waiting, then buying the wheels when they flood the market, and everyone else is also buying them, save your money.
If you won't take any pleasure in having wheels that are fairly common a year from now, then buy now, and get a new smile everytime you see your car.

yup...there is something to say about enjoyment when you buy something you want, and have it long before everyone else. Heck, I paid 36 k for my rx8 and paid 24k for ERica's.....but the thrill I had in having greasy forhead and finger prints on my windows from people looking at the car those first 8 months was priceless....wouldn't take that back for anything.
I guess in summary, it is only overpriced if you want it, and can't afford it.
