protege should be OBD II compliant since it was built after '96.
RX-8 is CAN compatible so not all obd sensors can read the codes.

I was about to buy a generic code reader, it's $40.

I'll give Denward a call right now to see if he is the one who has it....but given that he recently moved....I fear that it may be packed or in a box somewhere.

Loren: Autozone's won't loan you the code reader BUT if you go in, they can pull the code for you.
That might be a start.

I figure...it's $40. Can I really go wrong with getting it?
if my Explorer throws a code, I can read it. And lets not forget...it's a Ford so it's just a matter of time. ***knocks on wood***

If Emilie's truck throws a code (although...it is a toyota so I don't think it's capable of that)

anyways. I figure it'll be good to have lying around.

I told Loren that about 2 weeks ago...and his response was that they don't provide that service anymore.

Sorry to hear that. Lets put the Civic in the back next time so we don't get stuck behind him on Silk Road.

See you next time!

As for you 8 guys, our San Bernardino drives are still looking good. There definitely is an absence of RX-8s though; you'll be surrounded in -7's. A couple EVOs, an old Eclipse DSM, a Civic, and a 240sx all show up from time to time.

Sorry guys and gals....won't be able to make the party on Saturday. I have a couple of press releases to be at that weekend, as well as some rehab. My knee is doing well, and am looking forward to setting the world on fire again.

Sorry I won't be able to listen to Loren's version of Roxanne on Rock Band this weekend...make sure the windows are shut

I have 2.
The CanScan I bought from Keith and the Accessport.
Both of them are RX8 specific.
Doesn't Autozone or Pepboys scan them for free?

Haha.
I hit refresh, but didn't realize you guys were already on a new page.
I was responding to old posts.

Anyways, regarding the Canscan. As far as I remember, the one I have was for the RX8.
I can install the software, and you can try it, but I'm not responsible for any fried ECU's.

recap in detail
autozone no longer scans the cars, pep boys, midus and sears do still provide free scans. i went to sears last time and what they told me is that it needs a full diognistic to actually read the code as nothing specific was brought up. i would like to have one general to perform this anyway.

P.S. i dont want any fryed CPU's

the CAN Scan will read any car that runs the CANbus... which is not very many at this point.

the scanner is "universal". CANSCAN also made a gui that is for us RX-8 guys (the maker owns an RX-8) that gives you cool gauges and such.... you can use this if you wish.

check out the website for more details.....

ok, looking at the interweb, I see they dont have the fancy web site they had before. I wonder if they are not doing as well???

anyways, I found this site where you can buy the add on software (which you have Cesar) http://www.obdscan.net/obdscan_rx8_e...data_viewe.htm

.... ok reading more... it looks like they have a new verssion out.
it also looks like you can get the CANscan upgraded for free if you send it back to them.....
