i think i would pass this month will see you guys for sure next month with my new bumper and lower and possible have some intake and exhaust too

OK so week number two same problem?

So a week ago sunday I moved my car out to wash it and then put it back into the garage. Both times I moved the car I revved the engine before I turned it off but I didnt ever let the engine warm up. Come Monday the car wont start and the battery gets weaker pretty quick.

So I tried to jump it and some how crossed the cables (impossible to do but I did it). So then I had my neighbor tried his booster amp or what ever it was 120 amps starter and still nothing. I had it towed to the dealership and they did the deflood procedure ($90 out of pocket, past warrenty). They suggested I replace the spark plugs and the starter and the battery. The plugs are 3 months new, the battery is 800 craking amps and less then 1 year old so I am thinking it is the starter but they didnt want to replace that for free.

Now I come to this past weekend. Parked the car on Friday evening (it was warm and I revved the engine). I didnt move it all weekend and then Monday morning I get the exact same thing. No start just clicking. I left it there to deal with later and Mirna took me to work. What are my options now?

Once I get it started I will have the battery checked, does / can Autozone check the starter as well? Maybe I have to deflood the car myself (DIY not so easy)? Is there any cheap place to get the new starter ($300) the work seems quite easy after reading the DIY. Maybe I can most this in the Tech Garage Forum.

dang, sorry to hear about your starting issues loren... if the plugs and battery are brand new, then it very well may be the starter... maybe get a second opinion somewhere? any of the good rotary shops (jrx etc.) should be able to give you a hypothetical yes/ no based on the symptoms i'd think...

in the interim, you could go to pep boys and pickup a $30 portable black n decker jump starter battery while you're dealing with this. that way, you can self-jump start on the spot as needed. just dont' forget to charge the jump starter every night with the a/c outlet.

when i had my civic, i bought autozone batteries before. and, honestly, i thought they kinda sucked- only because ihad to change them out every 3 years- kinda short life span. (they basically are cheap batteries cheap.) my rx-8 battery was dying too and it got to the point where if i didn't start the car at least 2x's a week it wouldn't start. so, i just had the dealer replace the battery during my oil change.

let us know what u find out.

Yes they check both the battery and starter.

If your problem was a weak battery or alternator it is now.

Since you had the cable on backwards I'm surprised you didn't fry the fuses.

Your alternator needs to be replaces because the diodes are directional output.

Your not charging enough amp/voltage.

Not sure about the battery, butt they don't like reverse polerization.

I bet you had a weak battery. You need to get it on a battery tender or charge it every so often.

Once you flood the car... you need new plugs.

Why? Cause the fuel gets on the ceramic and destroys the use of the plug. Plus you still have all that residue over the metal contacts. At least clean them with sand paper. The battery sand blaster for spark plugs works real well. Remember you still have bad ceramic.

Also, I do not drive very often and I have replaced a 4 year battery in 1 to 1 1/2 years twice on the RX8.

Batteries do not like to be dead! (includes revese polerization). They love to be discharged and recharged but hate 25% or less. It kills the chemical mix and the plates build up a deposit real fast.

EDIT: the alarm system and radio clock discharges the battery in a car.

OK so since that was all broken up let me recap and tell me if I got it right.
-Plugs need to be replaced or at the very least dryed out and roughed up.
-battery needs to be replaced or at the very least put on a trickle charger from time to time.
-battery sand blaster (I dont know what this is?)
-Alternater is bad? Is there anyway to test it?
-So nothing about the starter? It is an 04 and still has the original one.

Start the car and pull the battery cable if it's still
running then the alternator should be ok.
If it shuts off then its a bad one

That's not good!

The spike will blow the diodes.

That is old school trick for generator.

A little box that is battery operated. Push button sand blows around spark plug and cleans it.

the unit is cheap.

If the alternator is bad...

Test when battery is fully charged. Drive at knight and see if light dim and brighten upon stopping and acceleration. Thats bad amperage...

Bad voltage.... Can't tell. Battery just dies. Have to check voltage at battery with car running.

Rev up a lilttle and it should be 14.2 to 14.5

And yes, the battery has to be fully charged to test the voltage correctly.

Well I got new jumper cables (cause the old ones melted) and got to jump the car form the P5. It had a hard time but it did start up. Ran it for a while and then took off to Autozone. They tested the battery, alternator and starter. All according to thier specs were working properly. Humm...I guess if this happenes again with similar symptoms I will try to get the new starter anyway.

loren trust me it will work.
everything old schol is not not out dated.
somethings are just being a little to over tech
here.
a fully charged battery on a battery tester
can lead to false results sometimes.

oh no! it might not be too bad tho...

my bmw got pelted back in 2001. no damage whatsoever. (then again, the panels are slightly more rigid tho.)
