We went from the 215 north to the 210 east, exited Waterman aka Highway 38. We turned left, going north towards the mountains. From there we took a right turn into the 270 degree turn that heads towards Crestline (I don't remember the name of this street but it probably has a sign for Crestline). After we hit the stop sign at the top of the hill right as you roll into town, we made an immediate left hand turn going down the hill right after the intersection. Follow that road until the next stop sign and go straight (this is a fork in the road but you're lined up facing the way you're supposed to go). The next stop sign is a right turn I believe then you're on the path to Highway 138 that eventually crosses over the 15 freeway.

We've taken this route for the past few years everytime without fail, but evidently before I started going to these meets they did a few, much longer runs to different locations which I'm sure many of the RX-8 owners here will remember.

super miata failed us this weekend.

Luckily for us, we got 4 runs rather than the normal 3, so the problems we experienced right from the start didn't hurt us too much.

Casey goes out for his first lap...car is in "limp" mode...no power anywhere, in any gear. He comes back from his run, yelling get the laptop. Fired up the laptop, checked the datalog, nothing....? Popped the hood, checked all the wiring, checked the spark plug wires at the plug and at the coilpack...nothing. Didn't know what was wrong...so loaded the failsafe tune to see if it was an issue with the tune.

I go out for my first lap...same exact problem, once off the line and into 2nd gear, no power at all..shift to 3rd to see if it is a problem with 2nd, same in 3rd...limped around the track for an embarrasing 65 second lap time (most others were running in the 55 to 56 range.

Again, popped the hood and got the laptop..nothing on the datalog...Casey asks me to check the wiring. I went to push down on the spark plug wires at the plug first, no problem...then when pressing the wire for plug 1 on the coilpack, I see a huge spark coming out on plug 3.....

I guess the coil pack was arching against the top of the engine manifold. In the few seconds we had to figure out a solution, Casey runs to get wire cutters and some bailing wire and he rigs it to the top of the manifold, but upside down so the coils are away from the manifold.

Our next 3 laps a piece were better, but we still had problems at 5k rpms and higher...the car just hesitated. We are thinking that we fried the 3rd coil, and maybe that was keeping the car from reaching max power.

Casey is going to change out the coils and run the car at Adams sometime during the next week or so...as our next event is in 3 weekends, as is one of the biggest events for the year.

Casey ended up running a clean 54.0xx and won the class for the day. I ran a dirty 53.5xx and was top raw time of day up to that point in the event....and this was with an engine that wasn't at its peak.....the car definately has power out of the corners now...get that top end power back and clean and we're gonna make some news

Yeah, and to have only 2 to 3 minutes in between runs was the amazing thing to me....trying to diagnose a problem, fixing it, while your still adjusting tire pressures and getting the car ready in between runs.

It really was amazing to see Casey make those changes in such short periods of time...I was just grateful I saw the arching problem so early in the event.

Wow guys great job! I was planning on being out there last Sunday but I had to get my car aligned first since my rear tires were a degree too far of negative camber. I was breaking traction around right hand turns just driving around town.

I'm going to hit up the 626 meet next week hopefully.

damn Keith, sorry to hear about the issues but glad you guys were quick to try and troubleshoot and discovered the problem. now THAT'S how pit stops are supposed to work.
The fact that Casey won the class despite not having power at the top end is damn impressive

Thumbs up New Toys...

Got my new phones today

His and hers EVO 4G from Sprint
4.3" Display

I included a size comparison from my old phone a Costco Card and the new phone.
If you look closely right above the "pr" from Sprint there is a forward facing 1.3MP camera for video calls.
The rear camera is 8MP. Not good enough to replace a regular camera, but it's good for a phone.
Now I need to go buy some cargo pants so this thing can fit in my pocket

What a nerd

how did I KNOW you'd be getting those today?
when we're in Vegas I want to do speed test to see just HOW much faster your 4G is compared to my 3G. I'm fully expecting to get slaughtered in this but it'll be fun to see them side by side.

grats man, that's an amazing (and HUGE ***) phone.

Random pic of the day.
This is what you get when you spend $4000 on a rifle

For those who know guns;
Springfield National Match
Sadlac mount, piston, and reamers
Eotech 308 specific holo and 3X with side and quick release

Name: SDC10203.jpg
Views: 27
Size: 77.0 KB

Sorry, had to post it.
My buddy bought it and I am still in awe of how much he spent on this rifle.
I am a gun aficionado, but this is rediculous

Loren: the coolant temp light can't be cleared with a code reader since it's a warning light.
are you positive that it's completely topped off? how full is the overflow tank?

the sensor on the tank has been known to go bad on our cars. If you are POSITIVE that your system is full and it's a false warning, you could disconnect it, just make sure you check it every now and then.

I never had my coolant light go off, even when the coolant tank was almost bone dry. Only reason I checked the coolant that time was it was smelling very odd when I would shut the car off...popped the hood and could tell that the odor was coming from the coolant....and at that time noticed it was almost empty.
