good am everyone... ![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
i haven't been up to GMR in a while. last time was a late night run with the 626 guys... have to say that that is one of the more challenging runs with all the corkscrew, blind turns. (if u ever wish u had adaptive headlights on a night run, GMR is where u wish u did.)
i don't think i'm good enough a motorcycle rider to go up that yet. well, not if i want to live...

Gerry, get your new iphone yet?
The new phone's specs look quite impressive and it looks like Apple did a nice job adding some functions that Android has been running successfully; threaded messaging, multi-tasking, etc
how do you like it?
Big question: how's the whole antenna thing working? A buddy of mine is a long time iphone user and is thinking about getting the new one but is worried about the reception when holdign the phone. It's already the thing he HATES MOST about his iphone 3Gs (call quality) and is worried it'll just be worse on the 4.

yah, i got my iPhone 4 last Tuesday...
u guys know that i'm an apple geek... but, i think that i can be objective too. and, i have mixed feelings about the iPhone 4. overall, i'd say it's a nice incremental upgrade, and i like it thus far. but, if i had a 3Gs instead of a 3G, i'd prolly have held off on upgrading... i'm actually not even convinced that upgrading from a 3G is worth the near $400- only because most of the features are "nice to have" and not "must have's" imo... but, for those who just 'have to have the latest and greatest' and for whom screen display, video, and pix quality are a driving decision, then ok- yah, it's on the money...
the antennae issue is definitely measurable, but so far not a big deal. as with all things the truth seems to fall in the middle. i've done some tests myself, and the bars do drop when u cover the left bottom of the phone. but, at the same time it seems to affect data (web surfing & gps) more than voice calls tho, from what i've been able to tell... as far as call quality goes, it's slightly better than the 3G. but, nothing that noticeable. ATT's network basically sucks. so, call drops are going to happen regardless...
Pros:
* voice command [aka voice dialing]
- finally! geez louise... it only took apple only 4 iphones b4 realizing that ppl need this feature. (i had this on my motorolla razr and used it all the time.)
* screen resolution
- very noticeably sharper, crisper all around.
- HD video is amazing for a smart phone.
* HD video/ camera
- the new camera pix quality is very noticeably sharper & has a built-in flash. i tried taking pix with the flash on, and sadly the quality kinda blew. after i turned the flash off, the pix came out better. well, at least it's an option to have hazy, flash-laden HD photos now... <lol> pix are sharper & crisper tho. the two-sided camera is a nice touch too.
* build quality
- the new phone is noticeably easier to hold in your hand. (i always felt earlier models felt like a bar of soap and would slip outta ur hand as such.)
* speed
- the new phone is very noticeably faster- coming off a 3G. (not sure how it compares to 3Gs) but, this- in all fairness- is a bit of a marketing scam. after all, my 3G was fast too when i first bought it. but over time, all the iOS upgrades and apps eventually slowed it down to a crawl. (yes- apple's tv commercials are a joke.) i'm sure the same will eventually happen to this iphone as well.
* battery
- battery life is marginally better than my 3G, tho again- not earth-shattering noticeable. but, any boost in battery life can't be complained about.
Cons:
* expensive
- even with my 2-year contract expiring, renewing and getting the 32GB cost me a whopping $380... ATT charges full sales tax on the phone. (wtf) so, here's how it broke down: $300 (phone) + $20 (bs upgrade charge) + $60 (sales tax on phone). sales tax is approx 9.75% of $600, the full price of the phone. i can't imagine what non-upgraders paid for early upgrade. 'fleeced' comes to mind. this phone is definitely NOT worth paying a premium for if you already have a 3GS, imo...
* size
- for a 'new and improved' iPhone, it actually feels bigger and heavier than the old one. WTF!
* antenna problem
- discussed above. basically, yes- the bars do drop. is it a show-stopper? doesn't seem to be. thus far... but, who the f knows with att?

thanks Gerry, that helps quite a bit.
I didn't realize you had the 3G and not the Gs, c'mon man... you've been slackin'.![Wink](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
I can sympathize with the camera issue as I picked up the HTC Droid Incredible and it's dual LED flashes are a bit much most of the time. I was a friend's house Saturday night and despite being outside with minnimal lighting, the pics still came out better with the flash turned OFF.

one other thing i should clarify i guess...
i really liked my iPhone 3G when i first got it, because it was the first smart phone i ever owned... it integrated extremely well with my existing apple mac email & web services. and, even tho it eventually got slower & slower, <lol>, it immediately became a device that i wondered how i got by without before having it... going from a razr to the iphone was a huge step up...
in comparison, the iPhone 4, on the other hand, didn't wow me as much, since it's more or less an upgrade of the iPhone in general. granted, there are lotsa cool new things in there. but, what i've learned is that if u have a solid smart phone that works well and that u like, it may not be all that necessary to get the latest & greatest- only because 95% of the time, you're really going to just use it for a few core things- ie txt'ing, email, web, music, photos etc. and, if ur phone does these things well already, then all the other bells and whistles only marginally increase the satisfaction of owning the phone. (and dissatisfaction to the dent in ur wallet, if u know what i mean.)

If Mercedes made the Audi R8 it would look like this. Aparently this is a rumored sketch of a new mid engine Mercedes.
