keith that sucks that its not a backup, its a move.... why wont they just let us back up our data!!?? I am sure its got somethign to do with the pay accounts. if i "backup" my hard drive and give it to you, there would be 2 people getting on for the price of one.)
Why could you take it to a computer hacker, they got all kinds of unligit ways around things. even if they are "busted"

warranty issues with modified 360's......and given the rate of failure...why would you want to void your warranty.

I bought some "copies" of xbox games while I was in Thailand. They didn't work when I got home and tried to play them. Found out later that I needed to have a modified xbox to play bootleg disks....but decided against doing that so I threw out the copies...no biggie as they were like 2 dollars each. Made cool frisbees

Oh, I know exactly what you mean. There is a hack out right now...but it only works with the Toshiba drives....and it has a 10% fail rate at thsi point...so the hack in not perfect. The 10% fails may include those who attempted the hack that were not aware of the fact that it is only intended for Toshiba drives.

There was another kit put out that has been taken off the market. It basically allowed you to attach your hard drive (through USB) to your computer...and you could download the content into a folder, which could be retrieved. interestingly, this looks exactly like what the new Migration kit looks like

People were having massive amounts of hard drive failures with the use of the kit, so it was pulled off the market.

...there was that additional kit I bought...which was advertised as a way of transfering your xbox hard drive info to your xbox 360 hd. The kit didn't work, and only transfered files of certain size to a computer...there was no way to then pull it off the computer to place it onto the 360.

It was not useful for my needs as I basically was only concerned with my forza 1 file...and my halo2 downloads which I purchased....both were beyond the file size and I couldn't touch them.

another off topic discussion....I saw something funny yesterday...it was a guy who had a siggy that indicated "people against the use of christmas avatars...whom support the use of christmas siggys"..something like that...I just thought it was humorous given the trend of little santa hats on everyone's vi right now.

He had a ginormous siggy with a large santa hat sitting on the hood of his car....and a santa in a sleigh in the background.

Time for me to chime in on the xbox issue, and to show you my evil laughing guy

@kwescott - That sucks about your hard drive. At least COD4 online info was saved.

Without boring everyone w/ the all the details, here it goes.

1) Microsoft's migration tool, is just that, "migration". It will move your data once and only once from 1 drive to the other. Pretty pointless, but makes them more money. Don't waste your time considering this option.

2) If you have a memory card, the standard size now is 64mb. That will easily store all your saved games. There is no need to backup DLC because you can always download that again when you recover your profile. I would venture to say that if you saved every game you ever played on your 64mb card, you might fill it up in about 100 games. you'd be surprised at how many games are less than 100kb in size. Of course, there is the occasional 1mb save file for games like Forza2, but it's not the norm.

Note: Saving games on you memory card as a backup is all fine and dandy, unless you have a corrupt file that messes up the card. First the corrupt file affects you hard drive, but if you don't know it's corrupt yet, and you make a backup onto your memory card, now the card is messed up too.

3) The ideal combo is a memory card and the Memory Card Transfer Kit from Datel.
http://us.codejunkies.com/shop/Produ...it__X3606.aspx
The kit comes w/ lame software that only allows for full backup of the card, no individual file selection.
If you get this kit, you need to ditch the included software, and use Explorer 360 software (which is free) and allows you to manipulate your saved games.
Essentially, you can copy your saved file and email them to someone else to play w/.
If you go this route, I'll be glad to point you in the right direction of a handy DIY guide for using the correct software. It's so easy, a Mac User could do it.

El Nerdo to the rescue...KW there is a guy on the forum (lounge) making santa hat avatars. If he was as smart as you he would be charging a buck for each avatar.

I've editted your comment.

Here's something else for you to be aware of....from the meet location we generally drive another 50 or so miles. If we go to Idelwyld, it would be further. I doubt we will be going that direction though, as most people will be coming to my house at the end of the cruise.
