lucky people, we could never live (at least not in the near future) as a single income let alone have another baby at the same time.

At this point, I think we are deciding between the Mazda3 (because we can get it for $100 over invoice with the Mazdaspeed Support Program car voucher) and the Lancer (which I think looks cool but may be inconvenient to own since there are not that many dealers locally to get warranty work done).

The Lancer is actually more expensive to insure, when compared to the Mazda3.

The way I see it....people who know me would say one of two things.

If I buy a Mazda3....people would say "Keith is being reasonable and he made a good choice".

If I buy a Lancer...people would say "Yup, that looks like Keith".

If I buy a Honda Fit...people would say "WTF?"

Thanks Casey, but there is really nothing I am interested in within the Chevy Family (sorry Cesar, that means no Bu for me)

I have some leverage, if any on Romero. I've bought two 8's from them, they have huge "90" signs hanging around the whole place...and they came to me stating that they could get me a good offer. I know they would sell my 8 for 21...the salesman already told me that when he said he was trying to fight for 18k for an offer on the trade in. These things are all working in our favor I think.

I wanted to have payments at 400.....but it doesn't look like that will happen given how far upside down we are on the white 8.

I know I have had a couple buyers interested in my car...I can only hope that it sells for what I'm asking...and with every month, I will owe 500 less on it....and , it's not like I really need to get rid of it right now...I can always enjoy it for abit longer, right?

Erica and I are very fortunate that we bought our home when we did...as it will gives us an opportunity to go to one income. This is our goal as well.

Be paitent. Time is on your side.

You can try Beech Mazda. I know the fleet manager there or you can try Tustin.

Don't have to buy yhe car in the area you live. Just get the best deal.

They honor warrenty work at all dealers, not only the one you bought it from.

I don't get this one
carmax was only willing to give Casey $12 for his 8 so no thanks
for regular folk like us - invoice is about the best choice we got. Plus there is no incentive for them to sell a 3 for any less because they are way too popular. What do you suggest?

^^^ AGREED with everything.

except the distance. he is saying if you drive 90 miles to a dealer, their price is going to be the same. I agree with this. Long Beach, does NOT have better prices. i fyou can work a deal their, you can work a deal here. (it might change from dealer to dealer locally, but you dont have to drive accross the state)

Carmax blows on their offers for cars. my car blue book TRADE IN $17,500. private party was $19,800. they offered $11,xxx. I would never sell a car to carmax. (retail was something like $21,xxx. this would be the price Carmax would turn around and sell it for)

I know there are people out there that have and will get a car under invoice, but for normal everyday deals, I think just over invoice is a decent price. if you can find one under.... great!

you know something we dont Jake?

Distance - If you have to drive to San Francisco to get $1000 savings, it is worth it. NEVER be afraid to walk out.

Carmax is not always the best option, but often times they will offer more for your car than anyone else, and you do not need to buy a car from them, they will simply buy yours. (normally for more than most other dealers)

And even 'regular folk' deserve a good deal. If you are SUPER picky on what you want, the dealer will know it and use it against you.
Get a newspaper, look for the 'loss leaders' and negotiate from there.

Or just tell the =m you are trading in the 8, LET THEM LOW BALL YOU WITHOUT TRYING TO BARGAIN. If they think they are gonna be able to make $$ on the trade in ($ on trade in and $ for SELLING that trade in are 2 DIFFERENT #'s to a dealer, tough to explain, but it is true) If they think they have $3000 on your trade in, they will feel safe to LOSE $2000 on the sale of the new car. At the last minute, say "no, I will just keep my 8" then pay the super low price for the new car. (only works if you have the capacity to keep the trade. If getting rid of the 8 MUST be done first . . . sell it yourself. )

I have an appointment with a MAzda dealership today to help them build their ad for this weekend. I will let you know what the 3's are going for.

BTW - NEVER be afraid to LIE to a dealer. They do it, so it is only fair that we lie too.

And Mazda has a $800 'hold back' on the 3's. So if you buy it at invoice, they still make the finance $ AND the hold back. (about $3000 profit to them after all payment are made)

yes check the papers for sure, our P5 was a lost leader, we got it for $15k something when i know other people bought similar models with less options for $18k. and my car was soem what of a lost leader (was supposed to be the lat 04 in the area) but it was $7k off $32k..these were all foudn via newpaper or pennysaver. when i was in the market i subscribed to the paper for a bit.

Yeah, I don't know why you guys are limiting yourselves to local dealerships. I took a train for almost 300 miles to go pick mine up.

No offense to anyone here, but I HIGHLY doubt a few hours of our time is worth a couple THOUSAND dollars.

talk about saving money... i just moved some $ around in my 401k and noticed that the transaction cost me $5k in lost value. <lol> wtf.

oh well, it had to be done. the funds it was sitting in didn't do well last year and had to get out of that position asap...
