hey cesar check this out we were talking about fiberoptic but if you can wait a year?
hey cesar check this out we were talking about fiberoptic but if you can wait a year?
The truth is, you won't be using that kind of speed for many, many years.
I have the FIOS service that they mentioned, and I get 15Mbps.
I can download faster than 99.9% of the websites can upload.
In other words, my download speed is faster than any one site can handle.
It's kind of like owning a Bugatti Veyron and living somewhere that doesn't have paved streets.
Sure you can go crazy fast, but there are no highways that can handle your speed.
Like they mentioned in the article, FIOS offers up to 50Mbps, but the network can do 100Mbps now. There's just no reason to offer it.
***Nerd time***
Fiber Vs. Cable
Fiber optics is using light to transmit info. The only limit on speed when it comes to fiber optics is technology. Current fiber communications in PC's can communicate between 30Gbps to 60Gbps. Compared to the "future" 1.5Gbps of cable.
Bottom line -
Cable is like a freeway. They get bigger/smoother/straighter and allow cars to reach top speeds.
Fiber Optics is like outter-space. The only limit to speed is technology.

But not as much as you, you see
But I still love technology
Always and forever " - Kipland Ronald Dynamite

jorge, try to see if it's just the broadband router or the cable modem by power cycling only 1 of the 2 items first to see which one is the culprit. also make sure all the cables & connections are good.
if the cable modem is the problem, consult your ISP and buy an identical model to whatever it is they would issue to their renting customers. if the broadband router is the problem, linksys, netgear, d-link are all good throw-away quality brands- ie don't overpay, so u can throw it away and buy a new one when it breaks. (which it will.)

@ jorge: another thing you can see to determine if it's the router or the modem, is to connect directly to the modem. if the issue persists, contact your ISP like Detrich said. if the issue is gone, then it is likely your modem.
@ cesar: i want FIOS! lol. it's available in my area, but i'm not getting it
.
@ kevin: it's not a new pc. pc is the same one i've had for quite some time....'cept a few recent upgrades.....just the monitor is new. and......YOU GOT A NEW CAR????!!!!!

wow... lots of computers.
i need to get a few things later this year- a new mac, an iPhone, and an apple tv. have any of u guys seen or tried it yet? 2 of my friends got em and it's really cool. for those who don't know what it does, apple tv is lets you (a) store video, music and (b) wirelessly pipe 720p HD video and music from your computer to your HDTV- ie basically like an iPod for video. for people who like ripping dvds and storing them on a computer, it basically allows u to watch all those programs in true HD quality on a tv.

I've been reading on the iPhone, and AppleTV and xBox.
Don't get me started on the iPhone, my current phone blows away what the iPhone will do.
As far as Apple TV, a lot of people already own an xBox360. (I'll be next)
XBox recently upgraded their dashboard interface. I think it was 2 days ago.
Here's a direct quote from engadget.
![Spank](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/spank.gif)
"Technically speaking the Xbox 360 now officially beats out the Apple TV in the digital video arena, both in resolution and bitrate. (At best the ATV only does up to 720p at 5Mbps, while the Xbox does 1080p up to 10Mbps; neither supports higher than stereo audio.)"
Here are parts of their AppleTV article, which they actually were very excited to review, but disappointed after having it.

Format support
The lack of supported formats is without a doubt the Apple TV's biggest limitation.
The movies and TV shows from the iTunes music store are only VGA (not even DVD resolution), and certainly don't sport Dolby Digital 5.1.
They may look good on your laptop, but up on a massive screen is still just such a far cry from HD.
This on top of the lack of Divx, XviD, and WMV really limits the usefulness of the Apple TV for anyone with a remotely disparate media library, and severely curtails its use as a internet video streaming device.
For now Apple TV owners will have to be content with H.264, (which maxes out at 1280 x 720) or MPEG-4 (even worse at a maximum of 3Mbps and 720 x 432).
Another issue we ran into is the 4GB file limit and 5Mbps bitrate limit for the media it does support. Not even Apple's own 720p HD trailers (8Mbps) have a low enough bitrate to play.
Re-encoding is an option, but besides the perpetual desire not to have to do that, the results are often less than stellar, especially when this low bitrate video is blown up on a nice, big, high resolution HDTV.
We kind of missed the point of watching movies in HD if you've got a screen full dancing pixels and artifacts.
Simply put, if anyone is thinking about buying this to watch HD movies and videos: don't. That's not really what it's for, at least not right now.
The Xbox 360 is far better at HD, and although it also has very limited codec support, at least MPEG-2 HD is supported (in addition to VC-1).

It moved files/pictures/video way faster than my pc.
Sorry man, it's an MS World. And Bill Gates is still the king.

Ok....was hoping to get a list (kinda like an RSVP) for the meet and aftermeet (at our home). Put your name on the list if you are making the meet, the aftermeet, or both. I will make my address available for those who do not plan on making the meet, but would like to attend the aftermeet. Please send me a pm. There are enough people who know where I live at this point, so there will be people caravaning over at the conclusion of the meet/greet/drive.

can't argue that 1, but i highly doubt it's as elegant or as cool as the iPhone... there are plenty of "better" mp3 players, but people want the iPod. appletv is only first gen and will improve
many ppl have increased the hd, have it running linux/ mac os etc. all depends what ur goal is. but, like the iPod, it was never designed do anything but 1 function
if sales volume were the sole measurement of a product's fidelity, then yes. but, as rotary engine car owners, we know otherwise- being that we are in the minority...
