lol...
off-topic, but i finally watched tokyo drift yesterday... yah- the acting & story were pretty lame. but, i still enjoyed the other elements- girls, cars, racing etc. the real underground scene sounds kinda scary tho, when u stop & think about it- ie a place where teenagers steal car tires from gas stations, cause accidents and jump on the subway to escape, tune their cars past 180km/hr, fully get away with street racing around the city... <lol> and, what's up with car meets where u can't -not- bump into a super hot import model without helping it... damn. i want to go to a meet like that... <lol>

actually - keith really hasn't been on. I have only been checking the forum at work for two reasons: 1) so I don't temp keith to read over my shoulder 2) so I can make sure he doesn't log on as me
he has actually been biding his time reading other forums and researching his transmission/warranty coverage issues. Scary. He has actually sworn off Mountain Dew as well.
Anyone have a spare bedroom for me in the mean time?

Your car is still under warranty right? It would be a lot of work but KW should think about swapping the white and black car trannies. The black would be back on the road and the white car that is under warranty and has a stock clutch and flywheel could be taken to another dealer with the bad trans in it.

that is an idea Isley - I'll run it by keith. Right now we are not at all certain that the problem is the transmission as the syncros are ok and the clutch flywheel/pressure plate are showing discoloration from heat. Keith is thinking that the clutch is defective? I don't know. I am only getting half of the info because as soon as he starts talking about it - he gets upset and doesn't want to talk about it anymore.
Casey - I think he has spoken more to you about it? Any info you can share?

it's a terrible feeling when your car's messed up. so, i think we all empathize & understand keith's frustration & anger. good thing u'r there to help shoulder some of the weight- if even just emotionally. please let him know we're pulling for him and we hope that the mechanics are able to find what's wrong and resolve it soon in the least costly way. if not, ullose's idea might work too- though i wonder if it might only further complicate things if u throw another car into the mix. so, make sure u guys cover all ur bases and think things thru first.

yes I have talked to keith a lot.
sounds liek the trans is toast. the 2nd 3rd and 4th gears all show wear on the teeth. couple little nicks, but mostly just wear.
comming form Keith, the synchros all look fine, its the teeth that are showing the wear. in fact I guess the synchros were not even on the list of parts to be replaced.
(you know it sure would be easier if Keith would just log in and tell the story him self.)
.Keith and I just talked about doing the Jason method. problem is he would have to pay the dealer to put the trans back together, just so we can swap them. I am sure it would wind up still being cheaper, but seems dumb to pay to put a bad trans back together... :/ (but again, I am sure it would still be much cheaper)
used trannys look like they are going for about a grand.... 1300 maybe. a new trans shipped to his doww is 2200 through Mazda motorsports.
he is into this already 1400 just o have them take it all apart. I'd hate to see how much it cost to put it back together. :/
I told him at this point I think he should still try to get them to replace it under warrentee since he does still have a few legs to stand on. but once it becomes clear that they will not, then maybe we can try to do the Jason method. the dealer has said somehting along the lines of them trying to knock down the 1400 if they do not cover this under warrentee.
.....KEITH, just log on........ RX-8 club moderators dont seem to care that you are missing. :p and this whole tranny drama would be a lot easier if you could just speak for yourself.

fuel> i like leather better. pro's are it smells & feels nice. con's are it's higher maintenance and doesn't age as well as cloth does... overall, it's like icing on the cake and not a deal-breaker for me.

I like cloth.... you dont stick to them in the summer, their not cold in the winter. (yes I know they have seat warmers, but you still have to get on the frozen seat to start the car and turn the warmers on....) and If your small (unlike me) you dont slide around on cloth.
just my .02.... but hey, what evuh your pleasuh.
