Very Important Notice-follow Up
I received a message back from Renee, the event chair for the June Autocross event. She has changed the run/work group for BSP. Maybe it was her wedding gift to me and Erica....but this means that you guys can't stick me with not going and making me look like an idiot.
BSP now runs first and works second.
Casey/Michelle/Cesar/Jessie/Denward.....please try and make the autocross event.

Keith: I've been meaning to ask how the new transmission is doing. So far so good?
Also, do you have a copy of your paperwork?

Erica has commented a couple times about me missing second entirely. I basically will shift from 1st to 3rd....given that I had to do this with the bad transmission and it is just a habit, or fear that I still have.
I am not driving it aggressively on the streets as I did with the first transmission when I first got the car and thought I had the fastest car in the world. I now know what the car is capable of, and have gone past the stage of trying to street race everyone.
This transmission should last the life of my car, with my new driving habits.
I will probably keep dino oil in the trans from now on as well, given my fear I have with synthetics now.....

you think the synthetics had something to do with it? I think I remember the Amsoil not working so well in your car, any other synthetics used?
I'm just curious to compare what our paperwork is going to say since you had a full transmission replacement and I believe I'm about to get the same thing done to mine.
I too think I'll take it a bit easier on this new transmission, gotta break it in once it's installed.

@ Zootender. I'm glad that Nino had so much fun at the party with the xbox...maybe tonight at tennis we can talk about games for him.
@ Scremn8. When Loren and I were purchasing our xboxs there were a lot of deals out there. We bought ours at Best Buy and got the system, along with an extra controller and a free game (29.99 value)...for the regular price of the system. At the same time, we could have bought a deal at Circuit City that included the extra controller and a 59.99 game (Gears of War) for only 29.99 more than the normal system price (basically giving you a 30 dollar rebate for the game). Costco had a similar deal, but the game that came with the system was Arcade Classics, and you were basically paying full price for the game...so it wasn't really a deal.
Cesar recently purchased his, and there weren't any of the deals that Loren and I saw. He decided on getting his at Costco given their return and replacement policy. I beleive he ended up trading in the Arcade Classics game to Game Stop.
I would recommend going to Costco....given their return and exchange/replacement policy...or to go to Walmart, as they tend to have "bundles" with systems and games together.
I would assume there would be a Forza 2 bundle coming out very soon....as this game is taking a lot of the attention of players right now.

I initially had Royal Purple in the car and was happy with it. Had slight gear grind here and there. You had to be really good with your shifts...misses were not as nice as when you had the thicker dino oil in. Upon switching to Amsoil, I had severe gear grind.
Casey used Royal Purple for a little less than I, as he switched to Amsoil a little earlier than I. He didn't have gear grind until placing Amsoil in his trans.
I beleive the fluid is just too thin.
Cesar has had Royal Purple and Redline in his car. He has no gear grind. I beleive he has used Redline more than Royal Purple...and may still have Redline in his car currently.
We put Royal Purple in Peters' car upon changing his flywheel and clutch. He had gear grind right from the start.
Don't know if that helps, or confounds your decision.
Yes, I do have my paperwork. Mine basically states "new transmission provided by Mazda as one-time goodwill gesture...no fault or additional warranty implied...."

hmm... when u guys say "drive the car hard," can you qualify or describe what that means? do you guys drop (clutch) shift or do something out of the ordinary? i would think that our cars are designed to be driven hard- not abused, per say- but driven hard. i'm wondering if there is anything in common with the way you guys drive or shift that may have contributed to the tranny issues. it just seems kinda odd, but i guess i've read quite a few ppl having tranny issues on the board. hmm...

I've used Royal Purple in my RX-8 since it had about 5,000 miles and didn't have any problems up until the transmission started to fail the past 2 months or so... Interesting.
Since we're throwing out random theories:
Isn't it weird how all the transmission threads I read about, 90% of them have the AFE short shifter?? Good thing I have the stock shifter in there right now.

@ Gerry. By "hard" driving, I think we are talking about WOT racing and canyon driving. There will be alot of high rpm shifts, and some aggressive downshifts. Nothing that would tear up a transmission, and would be how a sports car should be driven.
But with that, Mazda has a fine line between aggressive and abusive. Often, we drive the car how we think they were intended, but Mazda will say we are abusive. The main thing they look at is discoloration on the flywheel and clutch surfaces....which from what I've read other places, there is some question as to the quality of the clutch that Exedy put into our cars. There is some question as to whether a better clutch should have been used, and whether this would change the amount of heat discoloration the surface may have....I dunno.
I used this argument when I was dealing with my transmission issues...afterall, if I wanted to drive like a grandma, I would have bought a Mazda 6.

I'm going to do a bit more research on the possible effects a short shifter could have on syncros. Not sure what if anything I'll find but worth delving into none the less.

What the elite offers over the regular xbox360
1. Black Case
2. 120gb hard drive
3. HDMI connection
If you want the elite because of the color of the system matches your current setup, or the HDMI connection for a clean look, go for it.
If you want it for anything else, it's not worth it.
You don't need 120gb.
I've downloaded tons of stuff, and only have 7gb used.
Down the road a larger hard drive may be necessary, but by then someone will have figured out how to replace the xbox hard drive w/o having to buy the xbox brand.
Basically there is a small laptop hard drive in the snap-on piece at the top.
Once they figure out what files are needed to make the xbox accept it, you'll be able to replace it with any size drive for much less. Just like they did w/ the old xbox system.
You don't need HDMI.
HDMI is nice because it's all in a single cable & some new tv's may only offer HDMI.
If that's the case, you don't have a choice and need to get the elite. If you have component connections (the Y/Pb/Pr, 3 connections for video), you get the same quality picture as HDMI. Both connections do up to 1080p.

i've "grinded into 2nd gear" in my 323i many times accidently- ie on those tired, lazy days after work when i accidentally miss 2nd and release the clutch too fast. the loud noise usually jolts me awake and i think- crap i'm messing up the transmission. but, so far it hasn't broken yet... LOL <knock on wood> it happens very rarely, but i've done it a few times in the 8 too, and it only happens when i'm really tired/ exhausted and just flick the gearbox down to 2nd and it happens to miss.
well, the reason i bring it up is i would think that most cars aren't made so fragile that they can't take some abuse or human error time-to-time from bad shifting. obviously it's not a good thing to be grinding your gears all the time. and, i doubt any of us do on a regular basis. but, if just a few of those cause the tranny to fail, then there's something wrong with the workmanship/ design.

Hey well i notice some people talking about trying to get the Xbox 360 and i think the best offer i saw was at Circuit City. With the purchase of a new system you get a free black or white Wireless control which is about a $50 deal.
Even better look at this deal.
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Xbox-...oductDetail.do
You even get and extra wireless control so that is 3 controls for you. (dont know if you need that many but all depends on you.

This is from their site.
Merchandise: We guarantee your satisfaction on every product we sell with a full refund. Exceptions: Televisions, projectors, computers, cameras, camcorders, iPOD / MP3 players and cellular phones must be returned within 90 days of purchase for a refund.
Doesn't say anything about xbox, or for that matter, most of their products. It's mainly for technology that changes quickly because people were abusing the policy and returning tv's for newer/bigger/cheaper versions.
Here's a price breakdown.
- $399 Premium System (Do not buy the core system for $299)
- $38 Wireless controller at Walmart (about the best price you'll find)
- $15 Play and charge kit (rechargeable battery for controller so you don't use batteries.)
- $89 Wireless network adapter for internet access. (If you can reach a jack on the router, you don't need this)
- $25 xbox live subscription for 12months on ebay (this is only for new accounts, so you would use this from day one. They send you the code by email) http://cgi.ebay.com/X-Box-Live-12-1-...QQcmdZViewItem
- $49 - $59 Most games cost around this much new.
It's nice to have a second controller for playing w/ 2 people, but it's not a must.
You definitely should get a play/charge kit so you don't have to keep buying batteries.
The xbox live membership has 2 types. Gold and Silver. Silver is free, but you can't play against friends online, only sign-on and chat or buy stuff. Gold is required for playing w/ friends.
If you don't need the wireless adapter (I didn't) you can plug directly into the xbox for internet access and save $89.
Circuit City Gears of War bundle is $530. You save $16.
Walmart currently has 3 bundles.
$399 Call of Duty 2 bundle. (basically, a free game)
$459 Xbox 360 Customer's Choice Bundle w/ Messenger Bag (Burn out revenge and a game of your choice from their selection.)
$449 Xbox 360 Premium Starter Bundle (free game and extra controller)
If the system is bundled w/ things you want, it's a good deal. I personally wouldn't play burnout revenge, and I'm not to excited about gears of war, but that's my preference.
