But don’t mistake this for a luxury coupe. The mid-mounted, direct-injected V-8 is borrowed from the heavy-breathing RS 4, but with dry-sump lubrication for its new low-slung duty. Mounted so that its throttle-body intakes face rearward, meeting ducts that loop around from big intake slots ahead of the R8’s signature “side blades,” the V-8 is actually offset from the center line to package the all-wheel drivetrain.
the 2009 may come with a V10 but the one being produced now has the V8

^^^ yup, that's what I was trying to get at. Audi wants to put the Gallardo V10 to work for them in the near future so they're testing it now. Unfortunately, it ended up costing them a pretty R8. I'm sure they'll get it right soon and the '09 R8 is going to be badass with a V10

Yeah I was wanting to know why they were charging so much for the R8 they have now when a person could pay more then half the price for the RS4 and have the same speed and WHP. Granted its not the R8! I am still on a year and a half waiting list so I dont know which one I will get the V8 or V10 but they are both going to sale for roughly the same price.

personally, i like bmw > mercedes. just like the way they drive & feel better i suppose. that said, tho, i don't really care for the new crop of 3's for the following reasons:
1. fugly center console, iDrive, cupholder location.
2. fugly tail-lights on the 4-door, and the ones on the coupe look like a circa 1993 civic coupe.
3. pricing just keeps spiraling out of control. ($32k starting price? ugh...)
the e46's were designed really well. but, instead carrying on that tradition & applying that design philosophy to the next gen, they tried to re-invent too many aspects of the car that were already perfect. and, they over-designed things now i think.
