i c... thanks for sounding in kane. btw, your 8 is really nice! i remember reading your post & pix of the turbo mods u have on there. how's it running these days?
ok, back to the topic. so, based on what everyone (jake, casey, jorge etc.) said, it sounds like there are both pro's & con's to the bigger exhaust. please tell me if i'm understanding this correctly...
CON: the slight loss in low-end torque means it requires slightly higher rpms to get the engine to where the power is, which means it will burn more fuel and ie get worse MPG. for everyday city driving, this is less desirable, because no one is doing WOT at every stop light to get the rpms up. so, the slight loss "might" be noticeable and not as fun around the city.
PRO: there will be slight gain in mid/ higher end power, meaning that during those mid/ high rpm's, there will be more power. for spirited driving- ie in the canyons or WOT or when you're gunning freeway on-ramps, this is more desirabl, because there will be more power when u push the engine hard.
did i sum it up correctly?

sorry to hear that michael. i have some info to share that may help...
i called a several mazda dealerships within my driving distance to ask if they had "actual experience" replacing the glass or mechanisms on the moonroof of our cars.
and, to my surprise, majority of them told me honestly that they had never worked on the moonroof of an rx-8 before.
only galpin mazda in van nuys told me they'd actually done quite a number of rx-8's w/ moonroof issues. they assured me that my car wouldn't be a guinnea pig, and that's why i decided to drive all the way out there.
they did a good job and my glass & sunroof mechanism has had no issues since. so, u could always consider calling around other dealerships in your area and see which ones actually know how to fix it. and, worse case scenario either take it to galpin or the place jorge went to- tustin mazda i believe.
hope they figure it out and get it fixed soon.

The Wescotts are back!
We got back this evening....flying from Dublin to LAX, having a slight stop over in Phili. Oh, we can't even start to explain how much fun we had on our trip....but it was very stressful and much more expensive than we had thought. Wow, and what made it worse was the exchange rates on the dollar versus the Euro and Sterling Pound.....the dollar sucks....
The month was spent in too many countries......2 cities in Belgium, then Amsterdamn, Glascow (we actually flew into Glascow two days after the failed terrorist attack on the airport), then like 8 or 9 cities in England (we were in London about a week after the two car bombs were found in the Picadilly-London area......see a disturbing pattern yet?), 4 days too many in Paris (Erica and I both hate France now but are glad that we went), two cities in Germany (spent one day driving the autobahn, drove past Nuerbergring and wanted to stop sooooooo bad....note to everyone....a 100 series Peugot is NOT a sports car...I will post pics maybe tomorrow), and 5 days in Publin....I mean Dublin, Ireland.
Things I learned. (1) When a Belgian beer advertises that it is 10% alcohol...believe it Most of you guys know how I drink beer....and just let me tell you....I couldn't finish my fourth beer over there......WOW, good stuff.
(2) On the autobahn....in a 100 series Puegot....going up hill...just downshift into 2nd and crank up the radio....cause your gonna be there awhile.
(3) When ordering water, make sure you say "still water" or "water with no gas"...otherwise, you get that crappy bubbly water.
(4) In England, when on an escalator, always stand on the right and dont talk crap to the guy that comes up to you and bumps you from behind.....(which I did....and even gave him the Sevenstock rent-a-cop stare down).....because he may just be a police officer....a real one .
(5) "Chips" are French Fries and "Crisps" are potato chips.
(6) Most importantly.....make sure you get on the right subway/train/bus.....
We're glad to be back...and will most likely share some of our trips when we get up tomorrow......I did read through the 12 pages of posts I missed during our trip....so I hope you guys read through mine
PS>>>>>>Erica and I have not yet been able to see Transformers....is anyone interested in going to see it a second time....or going as a group to the drive in
PSS>>>>>>I haven't gone to see if my car starts yet...it still has the race tires on it....I may try to see if it starts before swapping the tires...

As to your exhaust question, yes that is technically true (kinda). But IMO, the low end loss and high end gain are so small that NA you will not notice it. Just the sound difference. The stock set-up and PCM is good about adjusting to these kinds of mods, and the stock stuff was good to begin with. So I would say do it for sound and looks and /or weight; especially if you plan to go FI anytime in the future.
If you want to nuke it, the air movement velocity is a big part of low load power. Long and narrow helps with this (but at a loss of total flow due to the narrowness). Short and fat (intake or exhaust) losses some of the velocity but gains total flow high end. Think of the pressure you can make blowing through a straw vs an equal length of garden hose.
Help?

welcome back Mr. Reifenhiser and Mrs. Wescotsdale, how does it feel to be home? nice to be in your own bed.? Just think, that was the first time you slept in your own bed as a married couple.
I am sure Michelle and I are up for watching it again. it was an awsome movie. we saw it at the drive in.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I will camp out! I spent a few years in Temecula, Fallbrook and a few in Orange. My bro is in Temecula now. I was just there for his wedding.
Yeah she can get up it fine, but backing out is causing scraping. Told her to try backing in... we will see. She has already curbed the front on a parking block... so I have to fix it anyway.

Didn't read my new car thread huh????
Short version: Dealer bought car to use as showcar for marketing. Wife looking for new car for Big Daddy Kane, sees RX8 showcar. Car not for sale, she gets what she wants (blonds), takes 10G off total cost in exchange for still doing shows and a commercial.
Kane has cool car, only mods I have done are the turbo and associated parts, all else "stock" for me.
