Some final feedback as Day 1 comes to a close. I took the family to the outdoor film festival at Balboa Park to watch The Black Stallion. They show the film projected on the wall of the Art Museum; everyone sits on blankets or lawn chairs outside. Had to park behind the Spreckles Organ Pavilion. I met more people in the parking lot as I parked and later when I went to get the car. You could tell people just wanted to come up and ask about the car and several did. They'd say something like, "Hey is that an extra set of doors there?" None had heard of the 8 nor knew the Rotary was back, but they were so pleased. As one guy said with his gf hanging on his arm, "That is the coolest car I've ever seen."

Haha, yeah, I got quite the reception at my local Starbucks last night. It was pretty cool.

I'm really pleased with the DSC. I was afraid about it interfering with agressive but after driving the car for a day and a half, I was starting to wonder if I had accidentally turned it off. I had been cornering like I had my hair on fire and couldn't get it to come on until I finally took a 20mph S curve on-ramp at 45. Finally, on the last curve of the S the DSC light came on for a split second. Man, this car just HUGS the road. :D

Concur, but I don't know how it is you were looking at the dash while taking turns like that. I'm not that good -- yet.

See, I know a lot of people knock the digi speedo, but I like it because I can glance at it (I can almost see it in my peripheral vision without moving my eyes, but not quite) and know exactly how fast I'm going. Now, that said, I looked down during the back of the S where it wasn't so curvy and saw that I was doing just over 40 and then I continued to accelerate through the turn, and I was up to 50ish pulling out of the turn, so 45 sounded like a nice, even number.

You want the DSC to come on, try peeling out. I did it accidentally (only took ~4000 RPMs in 1st at a stop sign) and the DSC came on pretty quickly.

Just FYI...There will be a dyno day at Autotech Motorsports all day Saturday the 26th with quite a few RX-7 Forum guys turning up. Also earlier that day the San Diego RX-7 Club will be having a canyon cruise.

You can't, unless you install your own DVD player and do some wiring into the display. Look for Hacking Navigation under the Electronics section.

Where's Autotech and where can I find more information about the SD RX-7 club? Are they accepting RX-8 members? I've heard of the So Cal RX-7 club, but it seems like most of their events are up in LA....

Counting down the days gentlemen.

How about a departure time from D&Bs of 11:00? We can spend an hour or so cruising around the mountains, stop and get a bite to eat, then some more twisties? :D

Any updates from the guys that are still waiting (norats, etc.)?

I'll post here again and send everybody involved a PM when we finalize everything. If you would like an email as well, please send me a PM with your email address. Remember, we're open to RX-8ers (both with and without their cars) and anybody else who wants to attend.

I'm still up for it; this Sunday, right? You'll be able to recognize me; I'm the one in the RX-8 and the big grin. I'll invite some rotary afficionados from work with their 7's and Miatas. I'll PM my email addy to you.

Hey, I'll have my kid charge up his FRS walkie-talkie things so we can communicate between cockpits (if you have a pax to act as communications officer.) Once off the freeway, my Sprint phone doesn't work up in the Julian twisties.

I'll do my best to make it.

D&B is Dave & Buster's. It's off the 8 freeway in Mission Valley. Your best bet is to take the 8, get off Texas Street and turn north, and turn right at the first street (I believe it's Camino Del Rio N), D&B will be on the right hand side.

Look forward to seeing you there. D&B = Dave and Busters. It's off Qualcomm Way; you should be able to find it online or in the phone book. If not, let us know. BTW, Dave and Busters is like a Chuck E Cheese, except for guys. Big guys who like cars, so our rally oughta be a big hit there in the parking lot.

Any RX-8 owner that wants a FREE dyno, let me know. I can hook you up this Saturday at Autotech. Of course, ONLY IF the car has already been properly broken-in and have rock up a considerable amount of milage ~(4000+ miles - at least one oil change).

4000+ mi in a week and a half will be a little hard to cut. I'm getting an aftermarket alarm installed tomorrow regardless, but thanks for the offer. If you're still looking in a few months, I'd love to bring mine up!

Anyway, we're 2 days away from our run. PMs will be going out this evening. The address for D&B's is 2931 Camino Del Rio N. It's right underneath the 8-805 bridge. I also attached a map. Meeting time is 11AM. We'll hit the road around 11:30 or so. Anybody with questions, please PM me.

See you all on Sunday!!!

Hi, gang. I'm bringing along a couple more wannabe's to the rally. Two folks from work. One guy has owned 5 Mazda's in his time; he'll be driving his Miata Sunday. Plus a real nice lady who totally admires the car. Both of them have talked their respective spouses into getting 8's after seeing mine parked outside day after day. So, we have RM, DD, NR, RX and 8w coming plus my two friends? Anyone else? This'll be quite a ride.

Hey guys! Just wanted to say thanks again for making yesterday so fun! I had a blast and can't wait to do it again. It was great to meet our brothers in rotordom fact to face (although I have to admit, I remembered everybody's forum names better than their real names...haha :p). If anybody is planning on attending the SoCal RX Club's BBQ in OC, let me know and we'll try to plan a caravan for the drive up.

I expect to see all your pics posted here soon!!!

As far as I know, this was the first organized RX-8 run anywhere, certainly the first in California. With five 8's and a few other cars along for the ride, it rocked. Pix and video to follow. All I can say is, RX-8 owners are as cool as their cars. It was a great run.

Once we ditched the highway patrol, we all had a blast!! Those turns were very fun and everyone was just blazing through like crazy.

Can we do it again?

Concur with all! Coming back through the twisties, I was second in line behind Elliot. Now I understand the difference between driving and driving well. I was humbled and awed. It is clear that I have a lot to learn if we can ever set up a training session at a local track, something Elliot said he would look into. I found our missing Miata crew. When Elliot turned left in Ramona and the rest of us went straight, the two "missing" cars turned right (intentionally) and had a great ride home. Everything worked out, and we ended the day with as many souls as we started with, which I'd say is the definition of a "successful" run.

I really appreciated the "southern" hospiatlity shown to me by the S.D. memebers. The ride was awesome. As we were going thru the final set of twisties on Old Julian Hwy, I kept on thinking "It just doesn't get any better than this."

I now have 700+ miles on my car. I'm hooked.
