San Jose Grand Prix
Someone gave me a set of tickets for today's San Jose Grand Prix. I was exited to say the least. General admission to me meant I'd not be getting into the grand stands, but I'd find a spot on the course where the sounds of F1s would be food for my soul.
Instead it was a totally useless expenditure of $30 for parking. Too many dead ends and bottlenecks. Only two places two cross the track. Can't blame the heat on the city, but it didn't help. The only way I'd attend in the next four years is if I get a hotel room over looking the course.
Oh yeah, and then there was the course. No passing because of its width, to totally lousy spots where the cars became airborne due to the light rail tracks and a street divider. When we arrived, we couldn't understand what that explosive sound was. Turns out it was when the cars were launched into the air by the light rail tracks that they didn't do a very good job of leveling. One car suffered a broken shock strut from the bouncing that the rail tracks provided. One guy said that during practice he thought he'd broken his elbow when he impacted the tracks.
Since we didn't have grand stand seats we were left to walking the perimeter of the course looking for a high spot to see. It never happened. Since I live a mile a way from the course, we ended up going back to my place, turning on the air conditioner and watching the race on the local NBC affiliate, Channel 11.

I boycotted the race, because they took it from Laguna Seca, which has had the race for twenty-some years. Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is a great track! But no, they wanted more people - more money. "It's not a race, it's a party!" They recommended that racefans (car people) take a bus or train to the SJGP!! And the track wasn't ready, and turned out to be the worst race track ever made - crossing RR tracks, twice!!!. Can you tell I'm upset?
