Mike, apparently you missed the sarcasm, so you wouldn't know. It doesn't have to do with west or east coast, a jammed highway is a jammed highway.

But I do know about driving close to people...in fact that's exactly how I scare people who ride with me often since I'm so use to going sideways in the corners inches from a competitors bumper at high speeds. Hopefully my instincts will know better in a caravan

Really ******' difficult apparently.

Honestly - my trips to 7stock have been pretty chill. I travelled in the front, middle and back of the packs. No real issues - the main thing was - i knew the people travelling in front of me and in back of me have been in large caravan's before so we knew how to pace each other.

I plan on sticking it out in the middle (the rough). I got front of the line last year at the staging lot

first beach cruise was epic because we had barely any organization.

I've been part of a small caravan before...it was more like a race through a city If everyone is keeping pace it's no different than driving on the highway for me then.

If people are mashing the throttle on and off trying to pass people then that's not really organized and is another matter..

You would do fine Vlaze. It's like having a pace car.

But yeah, my experience every time is that it's the people that don't think that safety, maintaining the set distance (not too close, not too far), not paying attention, jumping out of line, etc... THOSE people are the ones that cause trouble and dangerous situations.

Usually filled with alot of "wtf are people doing going slow" or "man, we don't need to do that sh**", etc... is were the trouble shows up, and shows up fast.

Safe caravaning is in the details, not the summary.

Honestly I'm not worried at all. Just mirroring the idea of saying "really, are you serious? How hard can it be for you not to act like an asshat"

I'm sure some drama is gonna happen when you got 50+ people....even if it's as odd as an apex seal blowing through someone's exhaust and taking out the tire of the car behind him..

The real worry is people who are drained, and drunk at the same time; bad mix.

I'm pretty sure jedi's going to designate a camera car for the caravan.

It's gonna have to be a stock 8 or a stock car to blend w/traffic and not cause people to want to speed up. Red fox n' rival drift did an awesome job last year.

If we have more than 1 or 2 camera car's we're gonna have problems. People will try n' speed up to the cameras to be caught on film n' crap...

I wouldn't mind at all.

The people that will listen are the same people that wouldn't be asshats in the first place. The people that will be asshats are the people that won't listen.

Doesn't matter who is talking.

Maybe we can split up the caravan in The Serious Group and The Asshat Group. The 2nd one can take an 8 hour detour.

Most of what I know is common sense, but I can lean on my fairly significant military convoy training to give my words weight that maybe make one or two of those asshats take it seriously.

For example, the best way to keep people from cutting in the line (without leaving it again immediately) is do ~10-15mph under the speed of the slowest traffic in the area. Some still will, if for no other reason than to get through the line to an exit, so you have to give them room, but give them reason not to stay. (Too bad we can't point a humvee mounted 50cal at them, that works better...)

Lane changes start from the back and move forward. Last one in line changes, then the one ahead of them etc. Even 50 cars, if everyone is alert and paying attention, a whole line can change lanes in clear road in under 10 seconds. In traffic it takes longer, but if you are traveling slower like you should be, then the last car closes off the lane for the car ahead, etc, and the line ripples into the lane smoothly.

...I'm probably preaching to the choir here...

1. K1 the night before sounds like a blast! I think we need a separate thread for it though.

2. Rev: no disrespect taken at all, I understand your concern. this year I'm going to be VERY stern with everyone as to how the caravan will be run as last year we had a few jokers who couldn't follow directions.

3. I am DEAD SERIOUS about this next part: ANYBODY who shows up Saturday morning revving their engine or racing through the Macy's parking lot will answer directly to ME and believe me, you do not want that. Last year we almost got thrown off the lot because of a few knuckle heads who couldn't behave their age so lets make sure we keep it civilized this year.

4. back to Rev's point: these caravans are a breeze since we're on the highway 90% of the time so just do what I do and find someone you know / trust and make sure you follow them and have someone else you know driving behind you. If you're familiar with each other's driving habits there's less chances of anything happening.
Besides, we all want to see Rev's sexy Ings car in the caravan
