Socal Fire
any of you guys in the hot zone? holy god man, I am in Long Beach, and if you go up on higher grounds, I can see smoke and fire from this far away
the smoke and ashes are also raining here in westminster/longbeach area, and the freeway is covered in dust
I hope any of you in the path of the fire are ok and GET OUT THERE ALIVE!
I know ur house is precious and all but its better to leave it than to burn down with it
btw: the fire looks like its getting nastier

My heart goes out to anyone who is close to the 'hot zone'. I'm in Tustin right now and that Foothill Ranch fire is only about 15 miles away.
The thing to remember in a situation like this is just quickly get belongings that cannot be replaced; computer (forget the monitor) and photos. Everything else can be replaced. Your life is more important then ANY piece of property.

Pic from my office window
Here's a pic I took from my office window this morning around 10:20am. According to the OCRegister, the homes just in front of the smoke were saved. My office is at Bake and the 241 and this pic is looking north to Portola road in Foothill Ranch.

did anyone also notice those little patches of fire out in ontario? hope that doesn't turn into a huge flamefest

we just had a power outage in Tustin. No power for about 20 minutes. (you can imagine how thrilled Corporate Security was about their bank branches losing power...)

I was born and raised in Santa Ana but I never really knew why they were called "Santa Ana Winds". I figured this would be relevant today since they are being talked about so much.
Santa Ana winds may get their name from the Santa Ana Mountains in Orange County, the Santa Ana River or Santa Ana Canyon, along which the winds are particularly strong. There are also claims that the original form is Santana winds, from the Spanish vientos de Sanatanas ("winds of Satan", Sanatanas being a rarer form of Satanás), and that this in turn is a translation of a native name in some unspecified language.

It's a real shame. I live in north SD county along the coast and luckily away from fires at the moment, but the fires east and south of here are really bad too. I'm totally reminded of the fires in 2003.

yeah, this fires will unfortunately be remembered for a LONG time.
If you click on the link I posted above, you can see a map of the Lake Elsinore area; the San Bernardino group and I were JUST there. I remember driving in the mountains and seeing the "Rim of the World" sign.

it could take WEEKS to put out the fire in Santa Clarita.
