Keep in mind everyone: there are ways to help right now if you so feel inclined. I don't mean picking up a hose and running head first into the fires but I'm sure donations would be GREATLY appreciated for those who are losing or have lost their homes.
Let me see if I can find a link

Yeah for sure, it nasty, dangerous work.
As if the fires weren't bad enough......wait till the rains come and watch all the mudslides. Mark my words! It's unfortunate, but I can see that happening in the coming months.

for those interested: here's a gallery of pictures submitted by nearby residents. Not to rub salt into the wounds but there are some beautiful pictures there.

Yeah.......okay...we shall see.
(Wait for Winter)
Good luck to all of you and I do hope most make it through unscathed because it's too late for some....unfortunately. Couple of years ago we had that bad situation in Florida where fires were going for months at a time. Here........when the swamps get going(it's called a muck fire), they burn forever UNDERGROUND and don't go out.

i just had a conversation with a good friend of mine about how the past 24 hours have been.
She lives in Foothill Ranch in a Multi-Million dollar home that was forced to be evacuated. Hearing her tell the story of the flames coming up into her neighborhood, of the news cameras taking pictures from her bedroom balcony, and trying to decide WHAT items to take and what to leave behind sent chills down my spine.

the one in irvine was arson, and then one of the ones in malibu was caused by a leaking gas pump somewhere, so the energy companies are gonna get sued up the *** after this is over

as much as I hate to say this, it smelled like Thailand when I was a kid, there were molotov cocktails going off left and right
lol
this smelled just like it, ash and dust, everywhere, and that smell of burning, not to mention I drive an AT 8, I thought my tranny was going to blow, and then was relieved when I saw I had the windows opened
lol

I hate to say this but I find this picture heart warming. Got it from ocregister.
So work has been a little interesting. I watch clouds/smokestacks move around all day from our ramp. Been refueling more news helicopters than usual. We get the rich & famous and they've been leaving left and right, many displaced from their malibu homes. =/

even the animals in the threatened areas are fleeing for their lives, lol, people say they see mice and **** run for their lives long before they got the warning
and the arson.....I really want to bitch slap them......not only did they successfuly burned down someone's house, they burned down about 500 in the process.......
the count is up to half a million people evacuated, and 1500 homes destroyed.............
and no end in sight, they are still saying that the wind is making it rough on the mountain...........

I think Photo Chick had the best advice in dealing with the ash and smoke, before you leave....but if its that bad I hope you are packing as well. Just remember to take water with you too. Empty milk jugs, soda bottles anything with a lid and fill it with water..you may end up stuck on the freeway as well..
