What kind of welder is it Dozer? MIG or TIG? I presume MIG? If MIG you should be able to just go to a welding shop and straight up tell them what you're looking for, they can usually get you a tank that should be a mix of 75% Argon and 25% CO2 which is the most common mixture. 100% Argon for TIG.

squeaky pedal doesn't mean it's going to snap
Mine's been rewelded by BHR, it'll still squeak once in awhile so i just grease them up.

You really can only tell by pulling it out.

Well let me put it this way, MIG would use a wire feed through the welding gun while TIG is using a welding gun in one hand and manually feeding the alloy stick to the molten weld pool with the other hand.

MIG is the most common welder people have, TIG is for people that use it for particular performance applications where high strength is called out like racing applications, aerospace, etc.

Ah, make sure it's not 100% pure argon then and you're good to go, should be around 75% and the rest CO2.

Nice, sounds like my old man. Did a lot of plasma welding, MIG, TIG, arc, etc. Taught me my MIG and TIG skills, TIG is a lot of fun and I enjoy it when I used to fabricate race car frames, just requires a lot of patience.

I've been out of racing which is when I did welding back in my college day, so I can't exactly recall, but generally not that expensive, maybe anywhere I presume 50-100 tops? Depends on the size tank and prices these days. Just call around.

Hm....did you have both on when welding? I can't say I have seen any MIG set up using 2 tanks....maybe a mixture of the gases meeting up but, I've never heard of that.

matt if the refill is to much, we can just take it off and take it to a shop somewhere downtown santa ana and have someone spot weld it for like 10-20 bucks

Well, like I mentioned previously, using MIG means wire is fed through the gun, so only one instrument. Using a gun and a stick sounds like TIG welding. Stick welding uses the power and is technically arc welding, requiring no gas.

I'm still a bit dog-head-tilt mode from using 2 tanks to weld... it has to be a mixture set up then for MIG. Yet if MIG why is a stick used... lol this sounds confusing. If you ask him for details let me know I'd like to hear the set up.

You know it sounds almost like Oxy-fuel welding. That's completely different from MIG. You usually have two tanks in that set up for oxygen and the fuel, and use a torch like gun to set the metal to molten pool then supply the filler aka the stick to the pool to supply the feed and weld. Does this sound more like it?

IF it is, then argon is not what you want. There are different types of fuel used for this welding. But if argon rings a bell and you know you've used it then go for it.
