Were you able to write down the error that was displayed on the BSOD?

Nope. It just gives the blue screen, does the physcial memory wipe, and then reboots. Not to mention it shuts down IE randomly

If I were to go that route, I'd have to dump my goodies to a external and then reinstall

That's the reason why I have so many hard drives, I partition my Primary to a 100GB and a 400GB partition, I put my OS in the smaller partition and install all of my programs in the larger one, that way if something were to go wrong then I can just format the smaller one.

What you can do is buy another hard drive or if you have someone with a portable, hook it up, transfer everything you want to keep and then format it and reinstall Windows.

My other three hard drives serves a purpose too, one for bluray rips, one for all my software and game ISO's along with music, and the last one for downloading only.

I download a lot and it puts quite a bit of stress on the hard drive so I have one solely dedicated to just downloads. (I download approximately 200-400GB a month)

Indeed, I always get a mild heart attack when the BSOD pops up.

I just hope that, while transfering, the virus doesn't catch a ride over. I know it is unlikely, but this virus is a tricky fu&*er!!

Shameless Plug - I'm selling my Thermaltake Bigwater 760IS system. For those who don't know what that is, it's a water cooling system for the computer. I have the VGA/GPU along with the 775 Socket Cooler.

The virus won't execute itself if you format and install a fresh copy of Windows. It'll only be a problem if you execute it by clicking on it accidentally. What I would do is copy everything you need, format, install Windows, install anti-virus program, and run the anti-virus before opening anything else up.

At least the GSOD is able to repair itself through dial-up...

No, the best part was searching how to fix it on my Windows Mobile phone.. At least it was easy to reinstall the OS, I'll give them that. I still won't ever buy one, though.

The virus won't go away until you find where the virus is. The virus will not execute meaning it will not do anything unless you accidentally open it up.

Step one: Transfer files
Step two: Format and reinstall fresh copy of Windows
Step Three: If you built your computer then install all the needed drivers from the CD that came with it, if you misplace it, download it from the manufacturer's website.
Step four: Transfer everything back
Step five: Install anti-virus software and scan
Step six: If scan did not pick anything up, install another anti-virus software and scan again.
Step seven: If that did not pick it up then you're safe.

Make sure that you do not open up any files that you transferred.
