I don't really eat much oriental food... besides Japanese.

I remember back in the day when I had money, I'd go to sushi-ya's, shabu shabu shops, and ramen houses all the time. I miss those days...

I think I would spend about a hundred bucks a week in Japanese cuisines.

life changing experience

most expensive meal of my life... ever
I have no idea how yelp rated it as $$$, unless you barely eat anything.

I think you mean not as cheap as Chinese. I can go to the local Hong Kong Express and buy a overfilled box of Chinese food for only five bucks.

Ah, you like to go to those kinda restaurants... I'm more of a back-alley sushi kinda guy. I go to restaurants that not many people have reviewed or go to but some of the stuff they have tastes helluva lot better than the fancy ones. The fancy ones are all about presentation... that's why they're so expensive even if their food is not the greatest.

I like those places too, I've had my share of good places
but when it just comes down to quality of the fish, back alley places just can't compare. at least I haven't found one personally.
not many average price sushi places will have real quality otoro/chutoro, or at least where I've gone.
This place's tuna was marbleized like top quality meat!

Ever heard of a restaurant called Ichi Teriyaki Roll? They're my favorite sushi-ya... the only down part is that they don't serve alcohol.

My second favorite is a place called Yuki Sushi who opened up about a year ago. I was one of their first few customers and the owner is very nice, she gives me free rolls because I'm always a returning customer.

I suppose you're right, they do have the money and connections to get top quality fish.

I still stand by my two favorite places though.

Tell me about it, when we do shabu shabu for the Taste of the Month meet, I'm going to order a large kobe beef and eat it very rare.
